Old CartoonNetwork.com Commercial

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:19 pm

I found one of my old tapes that I recorded Toonami on from about 6 or 7 years ago. On this tape it had this awesome commercial for Cartoonnetwork.com in which a kid was running around his back yard with an arrow tied to his back. His backyard was set up like CartoonNetwork.com where he would bounce on a trampoline to enter that "section" of the web site. The kid was being navigated by some guy on the roof who was screaming at him where to go and what to do. Its a pretty funny commercial over all but what made me really laugh was the Toonami section.

I was going to upload this and post it on youtube.com but my computer is being really sluggish\old\hard to manage at this point. So I just took screen caps and added the dialogue from the commercial to them! Enjoy!

Johnny Bravo had no chance. :?

Wow, that is pretty hilarious, thanks for bringing it up! :P

It seemed so cool that I decided to check the awesome site Toonami Digital Arsenal for it and guess what...I found it!

Just go here and look under General Promos, or you can just search the page for "CartoonNetwork.com Toonami ad" and once you click on it, the download option will pop up. The quality is pretty bad, but at least you can see the whole commercial in motion.

Those suits look exactly like those people in the fake reenactment of Mr.Satan defeating Cell.

I vaguely remember seeing this commercial. Wasn't it up way before Vegetto even showed up in the dub? Though I guess that makes the commercial even sillier.

Remember when Cartoon Network would do commercials in a sort of "Roger Rabbit" style where cartoon characters would be in real world places? It would've been awesome if they were able to do that with DBZ, though I guess getting their hands on new animation would've been tough.

Well, i just loved that spot during the Freeza Saga, where Goku and Freeza 's fists were surrounded by lightnings. Really epic.

The same way Gogeta is somehow Vegetto in Ultimate Battle 22. Mistakes are made all over the world by the people who distribute Dragonball related things. They should at least get their facts straight.

It's sad how Cartoonnetwork.com went from using commercials completely based on Dragonball Z to advertise their website to having absolutely no reference to the show which was one of their biggest hits on their site. They really left DBZ up to dry once the original fans grew up.

Nope, they just moved on. Anime really isn't top priority with them anymore.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

CN pretty much only cares about their original comedies and Canadian imports.

That's the truth. The only anime that it advertises now is...NARUTO. The manga that has turned so many middle school boys into.....CRAZY OTAKU LOSERS!

Guh. I have so many issues with Naruto (well, mainly the Gary Stu who stole his series out from under him :? ). Also there's some questionable parenting in that series that really squicks me something awful. :(

With Toonami, I think everything at the time period I grew with it in (1997 to 2003) worked out with me. I got into Dragon Ball during 10th grade and graduated high school around the time DBZ's dub finished airing on Toonami. By the time I had my first part-time job Toonami was already a Saturday-only commodity so I never really missed much because the store I worked at used to close an hour before GT came on.

I really should dust off my tapes some time and watch some old school Toonami...
On hiatus.

Pssh. Let CN and Toonami do their own thing. Just becauseits not like the glory days doesn't mean that Dragonball's not getting any respect. It ran its course multiple times, overstayed its welcome amongst the masses, and then finally got thrown off the air so hard that its not even on Toonami Jetstream anymore.

From the standpoint of people who like the Japanese version better, its actually more respectful to not have the dub so easily accessible.

So, you're saying that it's better for the American Dragonball dub not to air just because the fans of the Japanese dub don't like it? Or are you trying to say that they feel that it shouldn't be easily accessible because more and more people will prefer the American dub over the Japanese dub? I like both, so it doesn't matter to me.

Same here... geez... nowadays, Cartoon Network is just real big crap... NO DBZ... Toonami just comes on Saturdays... No good shows on Toonami... no more Midnight Run... or Rising Sun... no more DBZ marathons... no more DBZ movies (even repeats would at least be okay...) and no DBZ merchandise AT ALL at major retailers, not including recent DBZ games and movies on DVD/Blu-ray... man, that really sucks bad.

The Midnight Run was amazing. The Rising Sun was also pretty cool, but you can't top like 12 hours of back-to-back action shows and anime.

You would think Toonami would at least pick up Gundam 00...
