Dragon Ball Super returning to UK TV on GREAT! Action

Post by Dragon Ball Ireland » Fri May 01, 2026 3:32 pm

Starts Tuesday, May 5th at 11pm, although this is not a dedicated timeslot and episodes are to be shown any time between 11pm and 2am.

Unfortunately its probably going to be the censored version due to the fact Great! Action is owned by Narrative Entertainment and will likely share Pop's materials.

Gonna mirror WillRoney98's Reddit post, as it's been removed from r/DBZ.

Hi guys,
I work with the TV channel Great! Action and we are launching an Anime Hour this Tuesday 5th May, kicking off with the complete run of Dragon Ball Super!
It would be awesome if everyone here based in the UK and Ireland could tune in and support the block so we can see what comes next... 👀
Funnily enough I remember semi-jokingly suggesting that Movies4Men (as it was known then) should air the modern DBZ movies, buried somewhere on this forum many years ago.

Honestly, this seems like a bizarre choice when you look at the channel's normal output. I mean, so far it's sandwiched between 15-rated action films and The Avengers (the '60s ITV series) or Coast Guard Alaska. Super feels like a totally different demographic. Even the original Dragon Ball would be a better fit, not to mention that it's the edited version playing to a decidedly post-watershed audience (the on-demand version of episode one has the same cuts to violence as the Pop broadcast, so it's not just a case of them only having the 'TV-safe' audio).

If it weren't for that Reddit post, then I would have just assumed that this was schedule filler. I'm now inclined to think that someone from GREAT! Action thought that an anime block was a good idea, perhaps imagining more adult-oriented retro stuff, but then the channel only committed to Super (an anime they've already paid for which is kinda sorta from a retro franchise). I'm not surprised that the reaction from Reddit was simply "it's on iPlayer", and if you actually use your smart TV as a TV then you'll see two channels (GREAT! Action and Pop Up) playing Dragon Ball Super at the same. This just seems doomed to quietly fail.

popping in here to add:

i've been in contact wih head of marketing, and she said they're looking at if they can change to uncensored, different distributor as there was a previous agreement for the pop channels, so hopefully by the next few weeks it'll change.

she also asked for other suggestions of anime suited for action/adult audience, so let me know what youd like to see and i'll forward it on.

I suggested Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, GITS SAC, Outlaw Star, and Attack on Titan
