"Trunks: The Story" manga chapter question
In the latest US Shonen Jump, it covered chapter 200, which is "Trunks: The Story" . This has probably been asked before, but was the manga chapter used for the refrence to the TV special, or the other way around like the Bardock Special? Why I'm wondering this is because the manga clearly shows Gohan's death being the reason for Trunks going SSJ. Yet in some of the anime flashbacks, Trunks is SSJ with Gohan.

The TV special is based on the manga chapter. This is the opposite of the Bardock special, where the character appeared in the manga only after the TV special had aired.Sun_Wukong wrote:In the latest US Shonen Jump, it covered chapter 200, which is "Trunks: The Story" . As a side note, what's this chapter doing numbered? It's a special, and was never included in the original numbering...

It's not numbered. They threw it in after all the regular numbered chapters as just "Trunks: The Story".SaiyaJedi wrote:As a side note, what's this chapter doing numbered? It's a special, and was never included in the original numbering...

*shrug* Beats me. I was worried for a while when it didn't show up, but... I guess that's just on a whim.Sun_Wukong wrote:Why is it that they just randomly decided to throw it in the new DB vol34?
As a side note, I've noticed that the date of the Cell Game has been changed between the original and Kanzenban versions of the manga. While the original (in vol. 33) gives it as the "17th of the month of M." (presumably May, although that's a lot less than 9 days after the 12th), the Kanzenban (in vols. 26 and 27) gives it as May 26th. Pretty interesting, huh? If someone here could scan their copy of vol. 33, I'd be happy to provide comparison scans from my books.

You rang?SaiyaJedi wrote:If someone here could scan their copy of vol. 33, I'd be happy to provide comparison scans from my books.

This was about the best my scanner could do. The image could probably use some cleaning up, though, either by you, or me, whichever...

Ah... cool. Here's my version.TripleRach wrote:This was about the best my scanner could do. The image could probably use some cleaning up, though, either by you, or me, whichever...
And also, here's the one from later on. I learned this because I was faulting Jump for letting a "mistake" slip by, only to have someone better-informed accuse me of making things up. This scan silenced that, though.

So... thoughts?

Probably because 17 - 9 = 8, which is less than 12 (remember that the Jinzouningen showed up on the 12th day of the 5th month). I suppose you could argue that in the Dragon World, the sixth month starts with "M" as well, but it certainly doesn't seem like more than a month passes during this arc (it seems to be at most only a few days until Cell makes his announcement).Jerseymilk wrote:My only thought is why did they change it?
So... by making the date of Cell's announcement the 17th, that leaves time for Cell to go absorbing everyone and become perfect, as well as time for those 9 days to pass until the Cell Game.
'Course, this is going to throw a wrench into story arguments later on...

That is something I can't answer. If only I knew...SDHero wrote:So, my question is, was the change editorial in nature? I can hardly imagine Toriyama wishing to correct an inconsistency in the Dragonball soryline, given his almost gleeful creation of them during the original run...

What date is listed in the daizenshuu?
And I'd be quite keen to see a list of changes between the original and kanzeban versions of the manga. Any chance of that going up on the site?
