In a similar vein, does anyone here who have the Japanese version of this? I'd really like to know if what he's reading is actually "Faust" or not. Don't ask me why... I just do.Jerseymilk wrote:Oh I have that issue Dues. I could send it to you. Actually he looks quite a bit like Darbura. It's frightening.
Is it true that Toriyama now hates DragonBall?

Hey EX
How old is Toriyama. I take it he was writen a lot of comics to not know his own Character.

Remember though that Kame Sen'nin isn't in late DB manga nearly as much as he is in the anime. People like him, Oolong, and so forth were used for a lot more filler scenes than the manga has.
Still, I never knew that. I knew he'd forgotten evil mercenary dude whose name I forget, but Roshi? Madness.

Dang, Jake, a little bit of reading on Daizenshuu EX would do you good...
And SaiyaJedi.. I have the Japanese version of 'Sand Land', but to be honest I can honestly not tell whether Satan is reading Faust or not... The letters on the book are kind of too small to read. Maybe you would be able to make something out of, seeing as how you're way better at Japanese than I am, but me... nada. I could scan it... Perhaps.
And yes, he does look like Darbura... Except the horns. And there's a little flame floating over his shoulder. What the heck is that?!

As for "JakeZ04," my next post will address his questions.

Okay, first of all, Rule 1: Proper Grammar. Learn it, love it, use it.Jakez04 wrote:Hey Jersey

Second, it's not "magna," but manga, which means "comics" in Japanese.
And third, Toriyama was born on April 5, 1955, which'd make him 48 years, 10 months, and 22 days old, as of today (Tuesday, January 27, 2004).
And as for the other question about him...
http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~vegex/guid ... ndex.shtml. Second one down.Jakez04 wrote:Well is he dead or not Dai?
As you can see, Dai was being sarcastic, playing on common misconceptions that many DB fans have. And, like he said, you really need to go read up on stuff over at Daizenshuu EX.

I don't intend to sound mean, I'm just trying to enforce the rules. ^_^; So, sorry if I come across as overly harsh.Jakez04 wrote:Statement 1: How did I mess up on proper grammar?

As for the green Jell-O, that actually sounds like a pretty good idea right about now.

Ya I've heard a lot of people say they were really turned off by the art at first, but eventually got used to it and found the manga and anime's other qualities were more important to them. I personally think the art is really original and unique to Oda, the same way I find Toriyama's artwork is unique to him. I actually like it!

That's exactly the way it was for me. I picked up a Shonen Jump one day and saw a few chapters of One Peice, right away the art completly turned me off. I thought it looked stupid and cornball, but I forced myself to read the whole thing. After all, I had already payed for it.Jerseymilk wrote:Ya I've heard a lot of people say they were really turned off by the art at first, but eventually got used to it and found the manga and anime's other qualities were more important to them.
I'm pleased to say, I'm hopelessly hooked on that manga and it's loveable, wacky cast.

Just give it 4 years and it'll become all hard edged and give people straight eyes. Brr.
Is it available in graphic novel format? Because it's not overly cheap buying imports of Shonen Jump over here. It's not overly cheap buying the compliation books either, but it's not as big a drain on the wallet.

Yes, Viz has just started releasing the Shonen Jump titles in grapic novel format. The first 2 volumes of One Piece are now avaiable. You can buy them from their website: www.viz.com
