No other choice

Post by Raki » Mon Oct 13, 2008 7:47 pm

As with every other Dragonball fan, I didn't purchase the Dragonball 2 disk sets when they were availible. It just so happens I'm missing the Saga of Goku,21st Budokai,Red Ribbon, and the last two Piccolo sets. I don't want to buy the first R4 boxset, but I also don't want to pay 104 dolalrs for one set. If I do buy the first R4 boxset, I'll give the sets I already have to the Webmaster for a contest.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

If you're wanting to obtain them legally in R1 without paying a hefty load of cash, you'll have to wait until FUNi gets the distribution rights for first 13 episodes. Until then, we're all SOL.

I am actually in a similar situation to you. I have every set except for the last piccolo one, and the red ribbon army and Tournament ones. I have the saga of Goku edit dub crap, which I will settle for for now I guess. I actually do have all of DB on DVD but lets just say I went about getting the last episodes in a shady way that is "not supposed to be talked about on here" even though I would gladly throw the bootlegs I have in the toilet if we ever get a re-release.

Kami knows when that will be. I was looking at a World Tournament set earlier, and it was about 100 dollars. Was thinking about buying it, but I could just get that Madman boxset. I'd get two that I'm missing plus that Saga of Goku set.

My local MovieStop has a couple of them used for under $20 each. I've gotten lucky and managed to grab the two really good ones; King Piccolo Part 2 and Piccolo Jr Part 1. They've got a few others... General Blue, Red Ribbon Army, and Tenshinhan, I believe. I've been meaning to go back and grab them, but I haven't had the spare cash.

You know you need to get that Red Ribbon one right?

Whats this about an R4 boxset? What does it contain and where exactly could I find it? I plan on getting a multi-region DVD player so something like that sounds better then waiting for FUNimation to release.
I enjoy the Dragon Ball original AND Dub, even the VHS Fan-Sub's.

Official Madman Dragonball Boxsets:
Dragonball Volumes 1 to 6
Dragonball Volumes 7 to 11
If you want them cheaper, try this site:
Dragonball Volumes 1 to 6
Dragonball Volumes 7 to 11
Can anybody who lives in Australia tell about the second seller I listed. I don't know if I can trust them or not.

I live in Australia and it seems that Madman may have released the dragonball collections in different packaging from the old collections. These new releases come in a 12 disc collection and a 10 disc (like the old ones) but are fatpacked (like the aussie season sets) instead of having individual sagas like the old one. They still go for about $100AU each.
I think it's the Red Ribbon one. I know the DVDs are still there, but it's been a long time since I've actually been in there and examined them. But yeah, I oughta make it a priority.

That sucks. I want singles to match what I already have.

Ditto to what Raki said. I never really liked fatpacks :/
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I really need to check used video stores more often. If I could find ONE badly-priced DB set, I'd be happy. If I could find two, then I'd be happy AND have the rest of my Season Sets paid for via eBay.

Wow, so according to that website that Raki posted (Part 1 Part 2) you can obtain all 153 episodes for a little over $100 USD, not including shipping. That's one hell of a deal, even if they are in PAL R4. With the most expensive shipping (DHL) it comes out to approximately $130 USD.

Hm.

The problem is, will Funimation be releasing cheaper economy packaging in Region 1, potentially without widescreen, in the near future?

I mean, once they go through GT, they've gone through all the Dragon Ball animation that they care about. Then it's up to the red-haired stepchild to milk the final bits of Dragon Ball that they can in DVD form for a few years.

I just re-checked and they are out of stock. So it's Madman or nothing....but I might have to make the plunge.
