Yeah that's what I thought he meant.

One thing I find surprising about that comparison is that how zoomed in the FUNimation singles were for the Cell game stuff, there must have been some hefty damage at the top of FUNimation's masters (there's still a hell of a lot of it visible on the singles) for them to zoom in that little bit extra.

Me too. From what I heard, the Madman versions of the singles were much better quality than FUNimations, even though there were no subtitles or japanese track on it.

I've heard similar things, I picked up all the US singles for the Japanese voice track and subtitles, but I've see the odd Cell game single in bargain bins every now and then, so I might pick one up to compare.

On the Season Six discussion, there was a screencap showing pixelation and I know someone who use to have the Madman singles until he got Season Six, he said that exact scene on the Madman version had no pixelation.

From what I've seen, Madman's encodes for the singles appeared to be slightly better, not by much though.

I wouldn't know. I don't have an interest in getting the Dragonboxes or FUNi singles (I love the FUNi dub but not Bruce Faulconer, so I wouldn't get them), I love the new Season Sets FUNimation are releasing, plus they have subtitles if you want to watch the japanese version. But I'm not saying to you don't get it, best to luck to you for getting the Dragonboxes for episodes 01-67.

Huh?

I already own all of the FUNimation 4:3 single releases uncut and bilingual (for DB/Z/GT), so I'm only looking to buy the Dragonbox singles from episode 27-67 and that wont happen until the Australian dollar stops sucking hardcore.

Anyway, back on topic, are there any instances of disappearing lines in this set?, or has FUNi finally fixed it?

I see where it is you're coming from, but I'm not sure how many other people will cite that effort as a good thing. DragonBall is still very much loved in Japan, for example, but no matter what hip viewing fads come down the line in the next 10, 20 or even 50 years, I can guarantee that we will never see Toei crop or otherwise mutilate the show into something it isn't just to bring it into the current generation standard.

DragonBall is DragonBall, and DragonBall is a grainy 4:3.

Agreed. It should have never been done. It was a boneheaded move. All I'm saying is, doesn't it make you happy to think that DB is so beloved that it was brought (even if foolishly) to the new generation of TV?

True, the Ultimate Uncut Editions, forgot about that.

I have no idea but by judging how Season Six doesn't, Season Seven shouldn't.

No, because it wasn't done properly.

Dragonball is and always will be FUNimation's cashcow, it's got nothing to do with love the cropping and bleaching made that clear.

But why do you think FUNi even thought to crop it? These sets would have sold just as well without the catchphrase of "Widescreen".

Yeah, well, if Gen Fukunga (I think that's how it's spelt) never brought the Dragonball franchise to the US, I doubt most of us would ever know about it.

I hate it when people say this.

Dragonball was always going to make it's way over to western audiences, we don't owe FUNimation anything, all they did was get there first.

Me too, I just hear it a lot, even though most people I know have no clue who Gen Fukunga is and don't even know what company dubbed it, well, who knows what would of happened. But you're right, it would eventually reach english speaking audiences, one way or another.

From the scenes I've seen in this set, there are no instances of disappearing lines ^^.

Just found out that while playing the Japanese audio option and having it on angle 2, the ending should have the credits in Japanese but when its in angle 2, there are no credits, but switch to angle 1 and you'll see the English credits. No real big deal but I liked seeing those credits when watching it in Japanese =/, well at least they haven't taken away alternate angles, I like to see the Japanese title card ^^.

Are you aware of the fierce bidding wars in the mid 90's that took place for the Dragonball franchise? The only reason Gen won is because he had a small company and a blood relative high up in Toei...those are his own words.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

All of the HQ clips I've seen on Youtube have the same quality as Season 6. So what have we learned? Don't judge these off of low-quality screencaps.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Or not to trust youtube. :p
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Speaking of, what's with the lack of clips with Japanese music? All I end up seeing are "remastered" clips with the English dub music. I dunno, you'd figure people would post up clips of how the dub sounds with the original music as opposed to something they could have just ripped from an older DVD. :?
