And in expecting people to have your opinion and chastising them for thinking differently, aren't you being incredibly close-minded?
...And the introduction of
these kinds of platitudes is where it all falls apart. With the sarcasm and the obnoxious rolly-eyes emote and the circular logic and the absolute shut-off of any kind of willingness to try seeing things in another light.
"Try to be more open-minded."
"You're being closed-minded by telling me to be open-minded."
(By the way, that's one hell of a clever avoidance tactic)
You kidding me? We're all fairly intelligent people; must every conversation ultimately degrade into this kind of crap, over and over and over again?
I'm going to back out of this thread before it gets any worse. As little attention as it may be paid, I think I've said all I can say... again...
For Kami's sake, people, take off your fan-goggles for just a moment and put things in proper perspective. The truth is that it's a movie made out of a cartoon. Mr. Wong doesn't owe any of us jack squat except an entertaining movie made to his liking. The simple fact of the matter is that it's meant purely for fun and entertainment, and should not be so meticulously and spitefully over-analyzed just because it happens to base itself off of
"our" franchise.
What it
should be is a mutually enjoyable and interesting topic for DragonBall fans. What we
should be doing is treating the movie as something new and fun, and an interesting. What we
should be doing is using it as an opportunity to draw in new people to the broader fandom, with proclamations of, "you liked the movie, now here's something even better." What we
should be doing is showing some support for the actors and creative team, and hoping they do a good job.
But we're not, apparently.
It's become clear that far too many of us, especially here at DaizEX, don't want that. We'd rather be criticizing every detail and name involved in it for not doing things to
our liking. We'd rather be putting down and greeting every comment in favor of the film with spite and smug superiority. We'd rather be insulting Mr. Wong and the others involved with the film (
"ChatLOSE," oh, that's clever) for
daring to mess with the sacred work that is
DragonBall, i.e. "a goofy martial arts comic with poop jokes."
That's damned
depressing. A fandom is being divided because something so trivial is being taken too seriously.
I'd like to propose a solution. We can't just out-and-out ban any sort of info on the movie. It's a big topic in regards to the franchise, whether you like it or not. But even this new policy of "new thread for each new update" isn't working, because as we can see, it just devolves into the same ol' back-and-forth, and I'm tired of these "discussions" ruining my experience and .
I suggest that any and all future posting concerning the DragonBall movie be limited to ONE stickied, official thread which only a moderator who's
non-biased towards the movie (
do we have any of those?) can post in. The ONLY material posted within would be straight-up confirmed, official news and leaked material. Forumgoers, especially folks like Jappo and myself who keep up-to-date with ALL the news (
not just the bits ripe for disdain) would keep the chosen moderator up-to-date via PM or e-mail.
No bias, no opinions, no skew, not even any means or permission to contribute. From ANYONE. On either god-forsaken "side." It may take a little extra work from a couple parties, but it'd be worth it to prevent a new crop of this bullcrap from popping up every week. If people want to voice their opinions so badly, they can do so in the chat or something.
That's my proposal, and I'll try to make it the last significant thing I say on the matter.
