Too many... I will finally get to the only episodes of dragonball that I have not seen yet, episodes 4-14ish I think.

The exclusion of the next episode previews is disappointing. The alternate angles and GT title screen isn't as disappointing (I think One Piece was missing these too), but I don't know of any other show (beside DB and DBZ) to have previews removed. The only thing I can think of is since the previews were in terrible quality (lines on the screen) and FUNi is advertising these as "remastered" they might not be able to fix them as well as they want and decided to exclude them.

All in all, I think this is one of the best Dragonball releases FUNi has done. I'm definately picking these up since I completely skipped over the search for the dragon balls when I first started watching my fansubs. I wanted to get to the action (like a normal 13 year old) and now I want to watch the earlier things to see if they are more Dragon Ball in style.

I shall now post my personal opinions on the random drawbacks with this set:

-FUNi replacing the original logo with their own: Eh, they did that in One Piece too, and I could tolerate it then, and that change was WAY bigger than this one. Here, they've pretty much just recolored two letters and that's it. In short, I don't really care.

-Missing next-episode previews: Stupid, seeing how they WERE present in the old releases, but again, I don't care that much. Not like we're missing anything that's actually important, just a few witty comments.

-English title-cards/No alternate angles: I knew they'd do this, and this is the part that bothers me the most, but I can still live with it, as the narrator still says the japanese title, only at the same time as an inaccurate dub-title covers the screen...

So really, while this release isn't perfect, it's still pretty good in the sense that FUNimation actually treated it like an anime, and not like a Dragonball-series. In other words, this release actually looks competent, so I'll buy it, even though I've heard few good things about GT as a series...

Would it be bad if I still said that the original GT singles are your best bet though minus the "Lost Episodes" fiasco?

Other than that this release is competent and "competence" and "Dragon Ball" usually never go well together with Funimation concerning Dragon Ball.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I can't be arsed to read this entire daunting thread, so I ask:

1. Is this new amazing intro from anything previous or is it new for this release?

2. Is the original Japanese song on the Pure Japanese audio track?

3. Did they do a new English version of the ending themes too? Also, are both of the first two ending themes on this box set?

4. How many songs have been recorded in English like this ever? I can only think of Mystical Adventure and the Speed Racer theme (and now Dan Dan).

EDIT: I forgot to ask:
5. Does this set include the Fake English First Episode and/or does it have the "Lost Episodes?"

Hells Yeah! No more "Gotta save the World, with all my friends..." Dan Dan. Yeah, this will be mine on December 9, or when ever HMV, Wal-Mart, or my local anime store feel like putting it out.

Meh, while I did grow up with the Ocean dub, I'm partial to neither. I like the Ocean dub, because I feel there is better acting in it. The detraction to it is Megaman music, and a wonky script.

That said, the Blue Water dub of GT will always have a place in my heart (despite the less then stellar voice acting) because they used the Japanese score, and no one asked them to. It had a fairly decent script aswell.

One Piece's titles are translations, whereas all of Dragon Ball's aren't.

Not true. GT's logo is entirely different. The font for "Dragon Ball" is different from the original, and the GT is still part of that stupid attempt at making GT hardcore. It's a metallic font with tears and what not inside of it and it looks really awkward compared to the non-digital animation and what's in the opening.

One Piece's title was merely just gold being added to the title with the Luffy-shaped I being turned into a normal I.

1) New. Hence why we're making such a big deal out of it.
2) Yes.
3) Yes. They did.
4) Quite a lot. o_O FUNi's been doing this for quite a long time. The problem was that the only Dragon Ball franchise they did this with until now was the original Dragon Ball.
5) Yes. None of that "Lost Episode" nonsense.

Finally hearing a clearer version of the English "Don't You See," I don't really like it as much as the other two songs even though it's my favorite of the three for the Japanese versions. It just sounds like the singers went overboard with their harmonies throughout the song. I also would have liked it if they kept the translation as "it just seems so forlorn / love is asking to be loved." Close enough, I guess. I did like how they went and did a slight echo effect when they sang "don't you see," though.

As for the English Dan Dan, the one thing that really stood out was that the opening part doesn't have the loud guitar rift and the following guitar part (you know, the part right before the lyrics kick in) is really faint. Those two things practically define GT for me. I remember watching VHS copies of GT from the library and having to lower the volume down for the start of the opening because I thought it was just that loud.

... But hey, at least they've been translated. If only DBZ was given similar treatment. D'ya think it's because the openings and endings for that series are just too "weird" to have an English version (or at least that's how I could see it for the first OP and ED)?

GT's Dub episode titles aren't always pulled out of people's arses. While not all of them are faithful, a good number are just shortened versions of the Japanese titles, like Episode 64, "Goodbye, Gokuu... Till the Day We Meet Again" becoming "Until We Meet Again...", or Episode 8, "Son Goku also Thunders!! The Whiskers' Power is at Full" becoming "Whisker Power". Though there are questionable changes, Episode 9, "Damn!! Son Goku Leaps into the Trap Planet!?" becoming "Lord Luud". Yeah...

Funimation is also dubbing all the One Piece openings and endings (and arguably making some of them BETTER than the originals).
I also go by "veemonjosh".

It's still annoying though IMHO. If I was oblivious to what the case was, I'd be confused as hell by "Damn!! Son Goku Leaps into the Trap Planet!?" being on the screen as a subtitle while "Lord Luud" was the actual title card shown.

Huh... is it just me, or was "don't you see" produced using the original karaoke?
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". Well, the album version of don't you see has a different intro than the t.v. one...

I just watched the dubbed openings and it kind of upsets me that they are doing this NOW but they've never bothered to dub the opening of Chala Head Chala, Zenkai Power or We Got Power... or Angel (or whatever that one is called)...

It also bugs me that in their Dan Dan they got most everything right but they left out the very important guitar downscale (very obvious on the opening)... they did it with piano but at that point the recording of the piano seems a bit weak.

... but overall, bang up job on what they're doing with this box set. I guess by the time the Blu Rays come out we'll get (maybe) the DBZ music finally dubbed.

What do you mean?, does the dub do away with Hercule and replace it with the character's actual name?, if so how is that a bad thing?

Ah, that is a bit of a bummer, for future reference, just throw an italics bracket in the middle of a word like so; "Her [ i][/i ] cule" (without the spaces).
