Dragon Ball GT: Season 1 Discussion

Meh, no next episode previews and alternate angles means absolutely NOTHING to me. I only watch these sets using the Marathon Feature. Hell, what's the point in even wasting a concerned thought on Next Episode Previews?

Because A) they are part of the overall presentation and B) they were included in the singles releases, so there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't be present this time around.

And C) They are genuinely amusing, and it already pains me to lose them in the Z DVDs.

It's something that is PART of Dragon Ball, I feel like it's important, and it's very much a deciding factor for me. If it was even POSSIBLE that it was just a reality of business that they couldn't easily obtain them, or even that it would cost too much to get them, I'd understand to a point. But...I miss them. I really, really do. I don't know why more people don't miss them.

I really don't understand how the dub track is getting more attention than the cutting of the next episode previews, which seems to be met with a general apathy. I can understand for dub fans, but I can't understand how fans of the original version can be happier about dubbed theme songs than upset about losing title cards and next episode previews.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but my only exposure to the dub will consist messing around with the audio controls to see how Funimation filled in long stretches of silence with either unseen mouths talking or echo-y thoughts. What Funimation does to the dub track...it's nothing to me anymore. Unless they so completely do the ENTIRE Dragon Ball/Z/GT dub over from scratch, I don't know why a purist(or at least a person wanting to see the original intentions) even bothers with the dub track, or even takes the new themes as practically fixing everything and being the best thing Funimation has done for Dragon Ball ever.

I used to switch over to the dub track out of morbid curiosity, but doing so either infuriated or depressed me.

I think the single releases are a superior product, the video is clearer and I love the next episode previews, I'm glad I got them because it looks like Madman aren't putting them out anymore.

So you are saying that we cannot have positive feelings toward one aspect and negative feeling toward others? Everything in this world is not black and white. This is not a situation where you either love it or hate it; Everyone has mixed feeling about these sets. The English vocal themes are a huge bonus, the exclusion of next episode previews and Japanese title cards is disappointing. Even so, the positive aspects of the sets outweigh the negatives simply because the next episode previews and Japanese title cards don't matter in the grand scheme. If you really want the next episode previews that badly you could always purchase the single releases instead or import the Dragonbox DVDs; however, there is only one way to get the English vocal themes, and that is through this release.

At FYE today not only did I see the new set, but I noticed that the original boxsets were half off, so check your local FYE's as they may have the original boxsets for $25.00 each

For me, at least, 3 and a half minutes of an english-language track that I'm never going to touch out of anything but curiosity doesn't exactly outweigh forcing dub-specific title cards, english credits, removing footage that they have and that I find amusing and charming, and a possible snafu with the eyecatchers.

And I think your 3 and a half minutes of english Dan Dan, as well as the two ending themes, are perfectly available on YouTube for consumption at any moment.

What he said and for people like me, to remove the dialogue and get the full next episode Dan Dan kokoro 30 seconds BGM. Since when the narrator talks it's easy to remove them 100%, but no Funimation can never go one step and pay just a little more for the preview.

Well, they all ready have this set at my local best buy. I am going to get it as a Christmas gift, that way I still don't spend any money on GT. Yes, now if someone will buy me season two I will be all set.

Can we keep it a little more real here and not have blatant exagerrations being thrown around about what someone said? This is not a discussion on philosophy; this is a discussion on whether or not a television series was given proper treatment in DVD form. If you're a fan of the dub you'll probably think it was, but if you're a fan of the original it certainly wasn't.

It's pretty sad that we have to import something from another country just to be able to get what we want, when supposedly the whole purpose of American capitalism is to be able to buy what you want right here at home provided you have the means to do so. This is not a problem exclusive to Dragonball of course, but it's partcularly noteworthy given that FUNi has demonstrated the ability to do "perfect" releases before (case in point, again, the DBGT singles had everything intact; why change it now?).

And as for English vocal themes, are you really trying to tell us that an American guy singing a semi-accurately translated version of a 12-year-old Japanese song is worth the loss of the next episode previews, which are part of the show itself? Really?

Yes, and you said this in your previous post. We get it.

Doesn't mean what you do is what everyone else does. We should all have the ability to watch the show in exactly the way that we want to, with all material available to us but with different options as to how you want to watch the show (i.e. "marathon" feature vs. episodic form, etc).
