Why does everyone love Broly?

Post by jda95 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:19 pm

This issue annoys me to no end. Why does everyone love Broly?

It seems that most people love Broly. Why? Because of his transformations? Because of Vic Mignogna? Because he's muscular?

I personally don't like him. He is annoying.

But if you are a Broly fan, can you tell me why you like him? I wanna know why Broly gets so much atttention.

If I had to guess I'd say it was because he's a Hardcore Super Saiyan with large muscles and he just beats the living shit out of everything ever. Seriously every time he shows up Goku and the others just barely manage to beat him. Realistically they shouldn't have survived their first encounter with him in movie 8.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.

If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

Broly seems like an unstoppable tank, if that's the answer you were looking for. I personally, don't love him, but he is on my list of favorite movie villains.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

I like Movie 8 Brolli.
He actually had dialogue to him and some plot points.
The idea behind him in that movie was interesting.

The others movies though I could live without.
Movie 10 Brolli was all "WAAAAAAAUGH KAKARROTTO!!" whereas Movie 11 Brolli was just "WAAAAAAAAAAUGH!".
On hiatus.

I agree Movie 8 is way better than 10 and 11. In Movie 10 Broly is just insane, and Movie 11 should have been called 'Lump of Goo With Broly's Hair'.

I'm a Broly enthusiast out of personal attachment. Movie 8 was the first bit of Dragonball Z that I was ever exposed to as a kid. My reaction to the footage at the time was basically " holy-fucking-shit? ".

Suffice to say, Movie 10, and 11 most definitely cheapened any merits the character of Broly ever held since his first appearance I suppose.

He's huge, he's 'unstoppable', he's got bright spiky Super Saiyan hair; because Pre-pubescent, adolescents eat and drink that right up, like milk from a warm tit on a cold winter's day.

Agreed. 10 and 11 are extremely slow paced and don't grab my attention.

The presence of Goten and Trunks is a plus though. Goten has more lines in both movies than he does in the entire Z and GT series.

Kuririn rescuing Gohan in Movie 10 completely makes up for anything else. That and Trunks peeing on Broli.

As for Broli himself...what's not to like in the first appearance? SSJ was a legend, and it was assumed that Goku and the others merely broke the rules and became multiple incarnations of the legend...then we find out that they're just watered down versions of the real thing. For one movie, it was an excellent idea.

He's pretty cool, but not to the extent where I would get him tattooed on my ass.

Wait, nobody mentioned ass tattooing?

Alright then...

Because his power is maximum of course.

I dunno, I like Movie 8 Broly too; at least he actually had a bit of backstory and motivation, which is more than you can say about a lot of the movie villains.

The concept is great, and the first half of Movie 8 is an excellent build up...but as soon as Broli transforms, the entire plot degenerates into mindless ass-whooping. Mediocre ass whooping, at that. The ending was terrible, too. Goku collected the energy of near dead base Saiya'jin and one Namekian somehow gave him the power to match Broli? Horseshit. If his power truly was maximum, it would have ended with a near dead Goku grabbing everyone and Teleporting just as the comet hit, or something.

What about when Trunks moons and flips off 'Lump of Goo With Broly's Hair'?

Agreed. Movie 10 gave Goten a bigger limelight.

I agree with the couple of folks who's enjoyment is pretty much limited to Movie 8 Broly. In that first movie he was cruel, calculating, and reveled in the pain he was causing. About as interesting as DBZ movie villains come, at least.

The "Kakarrotto"-screaming weirdo from 10 is just raw muscle, with that "interesting" part pretty much gone. Although let me tell ya, he's GREAT material for humor fanfiction.

And "swamp-thing" from Movie 11 I don't even really count as Broly. :/

Sigh.

Let me correct that.

exceptionally mindless, mundane, ass-whooping.

Every DBZ movie has a portion of such, but there's typically plot development or suspense during and/or after said ass-whooping. In Movie 8 there's basically nothing but weak attempts at such, like chicken-shit Vegeta and squashed-ass Paragus.

Blah blah not much difference I sound like an idiot to most of you etc.

I think it might have been cooler if Vegeta went Right at Broly full force like he did later in the movie because he would want to Prove he is the Legendary Super Saiya-jin. (Cough Ignore Goku Cough)

I dunno what the big deal about him is. He was a pretty cool villain in the one where Gohan was older and he had to fight him, but other than that he was either "alright" or "blah."
