Yeah I guess your right, he can just fast forward through the filler and try to tweak his TV's color settings manually.
That's got nothing to do with 4:3 aspect ratio.
Hell, if your TV isn't shit, you should be able to adjust the aspect ratio to your liking.
And tweaking your color settings manually isn't as hard as you're implying. If you TRULY hate the colors, it doesn't sound too farfetched that you'd be willing to play aronud with 4 or 5 bars that go from 1 to 100.
That is, if you TRULY hated the colors, and weren't just mindlessly picking something about the show at random and bitching about it. But you wouldn't do that. You look like you've got a good head on your shoulders.

Not that I really have a side in this argument, but your logic here is
very flawed.

I really don't like the "Shut up idiot, if you don't like Kai then you're not allowed to say anything" attitude. Maybe I like Kai, and think there are problems. Maybe I don't like the cropping, or just the colors, or I think that the opening theme isn't that great.
WHY then, are we fine to say bad things about Funimation's Season Sets, but not about Kai? This isn't even saying that either is objectively good or bad, but the ABILITY to express the OPINION, and get treated with respect as a fellow member of the board.

But it had everything to do with what we were talking about.

Because little to no effort was put into remastering DBZ on FUNi's end, while promoting it to be something it isn't as well as using misleading marketing tactics?

Regardless of the effort, visually the results are not up to par with many of the season sets.

That's up for debate. Especially considering how inconsistent FUNi's season sets are.
And remember, FUNi's copies have not aged well at all. Their season sets are based off of poor quality copies of the series.

I'm just gonna play devil's advocate here, and say that if you don't like the soft-ness of the picture you could probably use avisynth or VDub to sharpen it a little. Honestly, I'm more against the LOOK of Kai than the concept; love the concept, but seems poorly executed. Blue-haired Raditz, seemingly shoddy tracing, et cetera.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
So far I've only seen one FUNi screen that I liked more. To be fair, though, the FUNi screens were good. I just like Kai more.
And... fuck Season 2!

What's bad about season 2? I never realised something, except for that fucked croping, in some scenes it really gets on my nerves.......

The colors were insanely inconsistent. On some discs (Discs 4 & 6, for example), it actually looked pretty decent, but on the rest, it looked like crap, especially disc 5.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Season 2 has my favorite episodes on it. The remastering made everything so pale, though. For example, Gohan's skin and the white of his eyes are about the same color.
If it weren't for Season 2 I'd barely have a problem.

It doesn't have this problem on the last few discs (once the Ginyu show up), but for everything before that, the season two set is WAAAY overly bright, to the point where if you're watching it on an HD TV, you sometimes can barely see shit
(it's like someone performed a Taiyoken on the film masters).
The first few discs of season 3 also share this problem, in fact to an even GREATER extent. In the Piccolo vs Form 2 Freeza fight for instance, there's an (inanely kickass) bit where they both exchange two MASSIVE Ki attacks that are both spectacular. But on the season three disc that that episode is on, the image is so bright that both Ki attacks are literally ERASED from the shots. You actually cannot see them hardly at all, and it just looks like they're both shooting giant rays of bright white sunlight at one another (when both Ki attacks are actually dark pink/purple).
Sucks too, cause that's one of the most memorable parts of that fight for me.
Oh man, that was a good one
And yeah, you're right about Season 3, but the strange thing I noticed is that the colors were only like that during Piccolo vs. Frieza episodes. Before and after that, they looked pretty good.

If my "appromixately 3 chapters per episode" prediction is correct, next week we should see the very first part of the Raditz fight before the chapter ends. It would be the same as how episode 1 ended on a chapter ending.

Seems about right, the whole manga would add up to 105 episodes in total
