It's his opinion so he can think whatever he wants :?

But yeah I thought Goku was the worst written character along with Mai
I have the right to criticize or challenge an opinion if I so choose. Those two instances aren't something you can "think," he was dead wrong. Chatwin is not the orignal Goku to a T as he said, and Tamura was not impressive because she's either just standing there or fighting. Whether or not these actors gave good or bad performances is irrelevant, truth is the only thing that matters.
Guess you're right specially because those two were pretty bad as their characters

I dunno, B. I think Goku has the single snidest line in the whole series.

Ok let's not fight over my opinion of the film.

OK sure Goku didn't obsess over women in the Anime I'll give you that B, but that's not what I was even talking about. My main thing was the stupidity, and the part where he ate the Chicken leg in Paozu.

As for Tamura she really wasn't in the film long enough for me to really judge, but at least she referred Goku as Son Goku unlike FUNimation.

As a dub fan I thought it was a good thing for Park to sound like Sabat because most of the time in the DB dub Sabat was reading a good enough translation of Toru Furuya's lines.

I am a dub fan; however I do respect the Japanese version as well.

Pshaw, Dr. Casey is clearly referring to "Is marriage some kind o' food?"

I don't really see Chatwin being "stupid," but okay. And eating chicken is not being like Goku. Anybody can eat chicken.

Again, I just don't get the satisfaction of hearing "son," seeing as how most people in the original don't use it that much. Maybe when talking about him, but to his face, almost everyone just says "Goku." It seems like a really minor and insignificant thing to have feelings for, good or bad.

Excellent guesses, everyone! However, I was actually referring to the final line of episode 172, when Goku teleports to King Kai's planet and requests aid to locate New Namek. Kai's sleeping, completely unaware of the situation with Cell. After he wakes up...

King Kai: hi goku why are you here
Goku: Tch. Your life is too calm. Do you not even know the Earth's in danger?

The 'Your life is too calm' line is pretty snide, in my opinion. That Son Goku's such a smug little bastard.

So did anyone go see the movie with someone who wasn't a fan of Dragon Ball? I had one person in my group who had never seen or read the story before and he actually thought the movie was alright. Or you know...Not as bad as the rest of us thought it was. He said it reminded him of a mix between Power Rangers and Lord of the Rings. When the movie was over he asked "So this the show you guys love so much huh?" and we all had to explain to him that the show was much MUCH better and different.

Well, I saw it with my sister and a friend of hers. The sister likes DragonBall somewhat, but not very deeply, even enough to really consider as a "fan." Same with the friend. They both mostly went to see it as fans of anime in general.

Since we're talking Fox here, I'd say it was more like Power Rangers meets X-men. Dragonball Evolution falls in halfway in terms of quality between the aforementioned movies. X-men had a lot of changes done to it but it was still a pretty good movie. Dragonball Evolution is kind of the same, once you take off your serious fan hat it becomes pretty enjoyable.

If you're a kid with ADD, maybe.

But being an adult, looking at this movie, I see a horribly written, American Kung-Fu flick with terribly dry acting. I've been fooled enough times at younger ages by movies that relied on flashy effects to get people hooked. See the newer Star Wars trilogy as an example.

Can anyone tell me what the situation was when Goku said the "I'm not ready for this" line? For the life of me, I can't remember him saying it in the movie.

Heck no! My 'movie critic' friend suggested going with me, but I said no chance, and went with my two Dragonball loving bros.

Can't say I remember it myself. Seems to have been one of those "commercial only" scenes that have become so popular these days.

I can see what you mean about the X-men portion. I think my friend thought of LOTR's because of the Dragon Balls themselves and that scene with the volcano. Also I think you're right about the "taking off the serious hat" thing. After sleeping on it I think the movie wasn't THAT bad. If it was longer and added some stuff like:

A scene totally focused on Mai explaining who she was: 8 to 10 minutes.

A scene showing her freeing Piccolo: 5 to 8 minutes.

Added more to the scene where they raid the village.

Another 15 minutes focused specifically on Yamcha and Bulma. Doing...Whatever....

Showed Piccolo, Mai, and his demons do evil stuff and Goku and the others here about it on the news. : 12 minutes

Remove the Oozaru stuff completely. For the last fight just have Roshi fight Piccolo, while Goku is elsewhere in the temple fighting demons. Yamcha and Bulma deal with Mai. Roshi tries the Mafuba and dies. Goku shows up and fights Piccolo. They could leave in the ki blasts and stuff but just make the fight MORE physical and longer.

Finally instead of ending the movie with Goku and Chi-Chi just end it with them deciding to look for the Dragon Balls again or Goku training with Roshi.

If they did all of that then I would have liked the movie a lot more. I'd probably give it 6 out of 10 then.

The writing was pretty sloppy, I'll give you that. It also does rely on effects, and it had a lot of things I didn't agree with. But it is the type of movie that you just need to turn off your brain to enjoy. It's a movie that can't be overly analyzed. I'm not defending the movie and it's flaws. I'm just saying that it was enjoyable once you let all the other stuff fly.

In no means is it a good movie by definition. It's in the leagues of Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Power Rangers... Just a little better. Still an enjoyable popcorn flick. It's not trying to be more than that...

Weird. And after all the controversy that one particular line caused.

Also, was it ever said that Piccolo's 'Makankosappo' would be in the movie? I'm sure I heard that somewhere. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the movie.
