Let's just hope he's dressed like a biker. Ooohhh, now what if *that* is their Saiyan armor? Just imagine seeing Frieza dressed in leather.

Saw the midnight showing due to convention. Was a fun little movie and was better than what I thought it'd be. Liked all the references.

Exactly! So 50% of hope is lost, for those who don't want the sequel! MUWAHAHAHA!!! EVOLUTION FANS WIN!!!! ROFLCOPTERMAO LULZ!!!
Of course there's going to be a sequel. I've seen the script. It was in a big pile, on top of the Man of Steel, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, Star Wars Episode VII, Halo and Warcraft the Movie.

I bet there's already concept art, casting choices and props in production. It's all smooth sailing at this point.

Provided they ignore the box office results, critical reception and fan reaction.

Smoooooth sailing...

Well, they did make a second Fantastic Four movie. For some reason.

I think the first one made a moderate profit.

And while neither of them were particularly memorable, Rise of the Silver Surfer was a lot better than the first one.

I just think it's cool to see everyones opinions and how they have changed...or not changed. ;p

P.S. - NECRO-POSTING IS BAD!

----------------------

Also, I have a hypothetical question. I was think about Goku in the movie and I was wondering: If the Goku we know in the anime WERE some kind of hormonally-unstable teenager, would he be anything like Chatwin in the movie? I mean, do you think this is what Goku would be like if he WERE a teenage boy-who loved girls-and wanted to be popular?

*Clicks Link*

Well, my opinion hasn't changed. ^^;
*Sigh*, I forgot about my desires for a CGI DB movie with the Funi VA's.....though at this point, I'd actually like to have TeamFourStar's VA's behind said imaginary project that I wish existed in the live action movie's place.
But holy cow I made my 600th post in that thread? O_O

Anyways, to answer to the Goku question, if Goku was hormonally-unstable, or to use old fanfiction terms in a "rut", the likely results would probably be too graphic to show in a children's anime. o_O;;; I don't think he'd fully understand what was happening to him until someone explained it to him. There'd also probably be a few verbal and visual gags involved to balance off the heavy issue of "Goku's going through puberty".

But, if he was a "teenage boy-who loved girls-and wanted to be popular", he wouldn't be Goku. ^^;;;

He'd be a different popular Shounen series main character who-shall-remain-nameless and irritates the living daylights out of me instead. :?

Which is probably one of many different reasons why I can't stand Chatku to begin with.

I'll take Shounen Series for $300

"He's a teenage boy who loved girls and wanted to be popular."

Um...Who is...Naruto?

Sorry, but that is incorrect.

-$300

Haven't seen it yet (trying to decide if I am in fact masochistic enough) but those of you speculating things for a sequel should euthanize those dreams now.

Word over at boxofficemojo.com is that the movie made only about $4.7 million this weekend, which pretty much seals this movie franchise's fate. It also ironically proves what I always thought the results of a live-action undertaking of DB would end up being: poorly-made, coldly-received, and (hopefully) quickly forgotten.

Ullgh!! I'm fresh out. Saw a 10:20 P.M. showing, so there were no kiddies which was nice...in fact, I was the only one in the auditorium! A couple of people came in a little later, I'm guessing for a private place to talk.
Anyway, yeah, it was as bad as I thought if not worse. Not just a bad Dragon Ball movie, but a bad movie, I mean I've seen much worse, but that was really bad, on all accounts.
As far as my disappointment as a fan goes, the worst thing about it to me was the warping of the whole plot and purpose of looking for the dragon balls. A total clusterfuck. It tried to come up with so many reasons and none of it worked, and I felt very rushed. Not a good way of organizing the King Piccolo era into a film, had they changed less and not added so many random weird things, it would have made a lot more sense. Besides the story, the discharacterization of Goku and Chi Chi made it not feel like Dragon Ball. I'm hugging my DVD shelf right now, I'm excited to be get a fresh breath of real Dragon Ball.

There was of course good in the movie. I was entertained at times, Chatwin, although not the Goku I know and love, was likeable. It was nice to see visual reminders of the anime in live action form. Also, I was laughing out loud in the high school when Chi Chi says "I'm having a party" and Goku says "I'll be there" a half a second after. Chow Yun-Fat as Roshi was pretty nice. They retained his corkiness and made him a bit perverted which I liked. When he was teaching the Kamehameha he got really into it, that was kinda cool. I think the kiddies will like the movie, so more fans of the anime and manga are always great. Let's see....yeah, that's about it.
All around, good or bad, I'm just glad Dragon Ball made it to the screen, and I'm glad it's making money so we can someone can reboot it into something really cool someday. I'm glad some people like it and once again I hope it brings in new fans. I'm optimistic about the sequels, bringing in the Saiyans and Frieza could be fun. It's just going to be confusing since they made Ozaru Goku's name and he was working for Piccolo, Kakarott might be his third name. I'm curious as to how they work in the Saiyan backstory while still acknowledging the "Ozaru the destroyer" crap.

One more thing, it said in the credits that Ben Ramsey did in fact write the sreenplay, I thought it was for sure re-written. If that's true, the guy had EIGHT YEARS to write a good Dragon Ball movie and this is what we got...wow.

I just realized that the "high school never ends" song that popped up in one of the spotlight shows in Japan never actually turned up in the movie itself.

But, there's a lot of stuff that was supposed to turn up in this movie and never did...

Well also it did come out the same weekend as a media powerhouse franchise for little girls. Never underestimate little girls.

Well that was Fox's fault for putting Dragon Ball: Evolution out the same weekend as Hannah Montana's movie. It was bad marketing, not only that it also wasn't heavily advertised.

Akira Toriyamas involvement:

Q: Did Akira Toriyama give you his blessing?

James Wong: It was interesting because when we first started in prep on it, we had sent the script over to Toriyama and Shueisha, which is the company that represented the interests of Dragonball. They came over and I showed them all my sketches and the visual elements of the movie that I was going to do. So they had access to all the pre-production stuff, and I think there were concerns from Mr. Toriyama about the look of Roshi in particular, since he didn’t have the long beard, and he had concerns about some of the adaptations that we were going to do. When we went to Japan, the Fox Japan people told me that he’d seen the movie and he’d loved the pace. Even though he was concerned about Roshi, he really loved Chow Yun-Fat’s portrayal, and he loved Justin. So I think we had a really good response from him. And rightly so, he had some concerns, but I think we hopefully helped alleviate those.

Q: Did he have any input into the script at all?

James Wong: He had comments into things in the script that we’d shown [him], and he had comments about the visual effects and we tried to accommodate those.

It is not hard to imagine Akira Toriyama actually likes DBE considered the movie is pretty much like an extended DBZ movie.

Heh, I just realised that this movie is only 10 minutes longer than the first Broli movie.

Toriyama the god/Kami of Dragonball has spoken, I wonder will people’s opinion about it change now?
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

More like, "James Wong has spoken".
Remember how Ursula K. Le Guin had allegedly spoken regarding Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea...
