Screen shots and video will only go so far when it comes to PAL conversions like this. It's ultimately all about where your video is going to end up for your own viewing. Are you going to watch it on a TV or on your computer? Does your TV/DVD player handle PAL video on its own already? Is it going to do any funny stuff to the video? Are you going to upscale it to 720/1080 on an HDTV, and if so, is the TV or a receiver going to handle the upscale, and what kind of deinterlacing work does it do on its own?

I think maybe what I might need to do is take an off-screen video of both of my DVD player -> receiver -> TV setups (HD and non-HD) to show just examples of how it might be displayed and viewed...
I've been wondering this too.

What if I plan to watch it on my Computer Via VLC, and Rip the Video files directly to my computer as AVIs with a DVD ripping program? (so I can then burn them out to their own US Discs if I want to see it on a TV)
What would that look like?

Well, I'm most interested in DVD rips. Sure, having the DVDs to watch would be great, but that's not a deal breaker for me. Is it possible to deinterlace video files as you convert them?

But I'd love to see an example like you mentioned too.

(I'll bring this thread back on-topic, I swear!)

That's actually what I did with my Madman "Saga of Goku" set. I just ripped them as-is to break the encryption, and burned them as-is back to a DVD+R DL. Therefore, they're just a regionless version of what I bought, and I can pop them into any DVD player. Note that this process has nothing what-so-ever to do with the "quality" of the video or how it's treated by video hardware.
Innagadadavida wrote:Is it possible to deinterlace video files as you convert them?
It's not possible to IVTC the video the same way you'd do it to its native NTSC interlaced source. Yes, you can deinterlace it... to some degree... but you'll probably end up with something pretty jerky. I don't have a lot of experience working with deinterlacing PAL sources, especially ones that were themselves brought over from NTSC.

AS FOR RECENT PURCHASES...

I recently got in the two "Super Exciting Guides" and that Maximum the Hormone CD single ("Tsume Tsume Tsumu / F"):

... and Dragon Ball Evolution on the PSP:

... and the Sherry CD single (I didn't take a picture, apparently).

... and I've got all the new CDs pre-ordered.

Look for reviews of all this shiz in the very near future.

That CD looks really familiar... I definitely didn't have it but for some reason I connect it with some neon green colored Krillin from Frezza saga...What's the connection? Is it just me?

I guess that's why I paid 50 bucks in shipping...

Also, my Madman DB set 1 finally shipped, but I have no tracking so god knows when that will get here. Also some figures I ordered got shipped as well and will also be here tomorrow.
Wait... what are you getting?

The Voodoo Glow Skulls released an album that had Krillian in Saiyan Armor with a bunch of funky bright colors and Japanese writing.
It's called "Who Is, This Is?"

"F" is an awesome song by Maximum the Hormone. About Freeza.

You've got good taste, Mike! Maybe you could show everybody the Freeza-themed booklet?

They're the latest Dragonball guidebooks to come out of Japan, one for the story of the series, and one for the characters of the series. Kanzentaihas a very nice synopsis of the story volume up on their site.

Sometime in the near future I am supposed to receive my Madman(the company that releases Dragon Ball in Australia) Dragon Ball Complete Collection Part 1. I only bought it because there is no way to get the first 13 episodes of DB in the US uncut.

Also, I actually just received this morning my package from Japan which included the two new Super Exciting Guides, The Landmark and Forever Guides, and the two TV animation Guides. They cost about 53 bucks all together, and the shipping was roughly 47 bucks.

Also, supposedly on it's way right now are the two quick change figures of Goku and Vegeta. I got a pretty good deal on them. They are the ones with interchangeable head and clothes that Bandai just put out. I had to order them online because not one store in my area carries DB merchandise.

It actually reminded me of this at first. Not sure why, I guess the art styles are kind of similar.

I recently got the Banpresto DX SSJ Trunks 7" figure in the mail, looks absolutely fantastic with my DBZ x OP DX statues. I also ordered the Madman Dragon Ball Series Part 1 set, I don't feel like waiting for the Region 1 re-release of the series, if FUNi even decides to release it once they have the rights to the first 13 episodes. Hopefully it'll arrive soon.
Krillin, the guy is just a ridiculous midget without nose.Seriously, he looks like some kind of bizarre monster.
Krillin's head is also pretty big like a balloon.

Eh... it gets kinda old hearing elitists say things like "IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED WHEN GOKU MET BULMA"
FUNi still does not own the rights to the original 13 episodes?! What about the movies?

The first Dragonball movie is the only one that falls under the Lionsgate sub-license, there currently is no bilingual subtitled release of the movie, it was included with the Madman Saga of Goku set, but it was the edited hacked up dub.

I personally got sick of waiting and picked up the Dragonbox single.

Just picked up my Season 9 DVD boxset and the Last Double Feature Blu ray. I love it when Walmart breaks street dates.
I also picked up the rest of the Double Features I was missing and the Criterion Third Man and Benjamin Button Blu rays.

So, guess I am done with FUNImation Dragon Ball Releases for now.

Whoa that is quite the broken release date indeed. I've only caught my Walmart putting it out a day early...guess I'm taking a trip to my walmart today. I'm sure I'll be out of luck, but never know!!

Out of curiousity, what state do you live in Krycek? Hoping this would better my chances if we were in the same state :p

Best of luck at Walmart; I find it varies greatly by location. I went two days after season 8 came out and they hadn't even put it on the shelves yet.
