Anniversary stuff?

Post by Frobman » Thu Nov 18, 2004 11:22 am

What will be DB's 20th Anniv. stuff? Since there were other multiple of 5 anniversaries for other titles this year that celebrated somehow.

- Godzilla (50) _ Save the Earth (PS2 and XBOX) & the new movie Final Wars!
- Kinnikuman (25) _ Galactic Wrestling (PS2) and many more that doesn't come to mind!
- Transformers (20) _ First Optimus Prime toy re-made!
- Dragonball (20) _ What's it gonna be?
Fry: Wow. The jungles on Mars look like the jungles on Earth.
Prof. Farnsworth: Jungles? On Earth? (laughs)

I'm hoping a movie box set from Japan (I'm 50/50 on whether I'll get GT, having the other Dragon Boxes), and I'm thinking the Kanzenban release was a bit of an early celebration present. Hell, the Dragon boxes themselves were probably intended as a anniversary thing of sorts too.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a new movie, maybe retelling the beginning of Z, kind of like what they did for the 10th anniversary! There may still be some time for them to annouce it, if they consider DB's 1st year as 1985, since it came out on Weekly Shonen Jump so late in December 1984...

EDIT: There's a GT DragonBox coming out? When? got pix?

I'm just assuming they'll make one eventually.

I'm kinda confused. Wasn't this year their 20th anniversary? I thought that's why they were coming out with the new artbooks, kanzenban, DVD sets, etc.

The technical 20th anniversary is, as stated, this December. It's the anniversary of the manga's original printing (1984). The anime started in 1986, so 2006 would be the 20th anniversary of that.

I really hope they make a new movie for the 20th Anniversary, even if I have to wait 2 years for it. It'll look great if they use the same animation-quality they used for Budoukai 3's opening :)

Wow, I always heard that the anime started it's run in '85... Nonthesless, thanks for the info, EX! :)

EDIT: Don't you think they might wait for the 25th [silver] Anniversary to produce a new movie? :?

Would Budokai 3 count? It's the best so far!

Final Bout has been out since '97... maybe even '96... so that doesn't count...

Well, yeah, but Final Bout's used to be my favorite.

First of all ... BOO NECRO POST!
Second, I wanted to do this earlier but forgotten a few times or am unable to!
Third, just thought that Toriyama will have to deal with two manga anniversaries in two years in a row. Here's what I mean -

_2004 - Dragonball - 20
_2005 - Dr. Slump - 25

Let's expect one maybe next year or remind Toriyama somehow if he forgot! What can it be?

Jesus christ, I thought the 20th anniversary had already passed for some reason. I thought the release of the kanzenban was the marker for the anniversery. How foooolish of me! :oops:

Hopefully I don't have my misinformation plastered all over my shrine. ;-;

As for what goodies will be released, I can't really think of anything. The kanzenban and the Dragon Box seem to be sort of it. Then there's Budokai 3 as well.

I'm still lusting over all the pretty Dragonball merch over at COSPA. ;-;

The Dragonball anime aired on February 2nd, 1986, I think. In one of the Viz graphic novels, they left in the original ad from the Japanese novel, which said that the anime would begin February 2nd, 1986.

We've got 26th listed in the "Newbie Guide"... and that damn thing's been double-checked a gazillion times.

Viz mistranslated. Or to be more precise, they (accidentally) left out the "6" in "26." Everything I've got in Japanese says it's the 26th, and besides, February 2nd, 1986 was a Sunday. :P

Gotta love those perpetual calendars...
