Seriously, there's just little respect in calling an old man, nevermind the author of the series in question, by his first name. I never ran around calling my college professors by their first name (unless they told me to, anyway ^^). You seem to have taken more offense to it than anyone should naturally be due, which seems to infer that you're slightly upset with yourself about it. Or that you were called on it. Probably both.
