3 big questions

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

3 big questions

Post by MasterVampire » Fri Aug 21, 2009 6:55 am

These have been bugging me for a while and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on them:

1. Why didn't goku teach any of his friends the Instant Transmission trick? Surely its a very helpfull and impressive move. I dont understand why vegeta or piccolo wouldnt want to know how its done. Also they could use it with their own attacks .

2. Why didnt Goku use the Instant Transmission to go back to earth as soon as he took Cell to King Kai's planet? He would of had at least 10-15 seconds once he moved him there.

3. Why didnt Vegeta ever get some payback on andriod 18 for what she did to him? Surely he would of held a grudge since she beat him and broke his arm.

1- Maybe he thought it was difficult for them...?

2- Because he was planning to die anyway...?

3- Propably lost his will to fight after Goku's death...?

Some suggestions for question 1, Shinobi seems to have answered the other two essentially the same way I would have.

Perhaps Instant Transmission is another one of those 'pure of heart' things. That would disqualify most of the cast right there. Assuming it was a pure of heart thing, he could have taught it to his sons after he was resurrected, but perhaps the technique was too complicated for them to learn. Goku himself spent quite a bit of time on Yardrat learning the technique, maybe it was improbable that he'd be able to spend that much time teaching it to his sons? Gohan was always studying and fighting crime in his spare time, and Chichi probably wouldn't let Goten out of her sight long enough to learn it.

I don't think Vegeta would ever stoop so low as to have Kakarrot teach him a technique, he's got his pride.

I wish I could use that technique, I'd never have to drive to work again :P

1. Out of universe explanation. If everyone knew it, the last shred of adventure in the series would be gone. It's bad enough that everyone can fly.

2. In the manga, there was only about 2 panels after Goku arrived there. "Sorry Kaio, I couldn't think of anything else." Then Cell exploded. The anime might have made it seem like he had more time.

3. It probably seemed pointless after everything everyone went through. He probably just didn't care any more. He was stronger than her by then, so what would it prove?

#2 goes back to the whole "Earth is in danger because I'm there" thing.

1) I also think it would probably be too difficult for them to learn. According to Goku, it took him a ton of practice to learn the technique. By the time he arrived back on earth, he had to focus on preparing for the Androids instead of teaching moves to others. The focus of the training seemed to be mainly on raw power, anyway. Vegeta also would never learn anything from Goku. When Goku asked him if he wanted him to teleport him to Cell, he refused his help. I seriously doubt he would ever care enough to learn it

2) Even if there was enough time for him to escape, Goku is honorable and loyal towards Kaio. He wouldn't leave Cell there and save his own ass. The entire otherworld bunch might've hated him forever for doing that. I always wondered why myself, but his teleport isn't exactly easy to do when he's going against time. He didn't appear to have enough time to feel out Chi and move back to earth in time.

3) Didn't care. He told Krillin to destroy her, but after he refused to do it, he simply let it go. It was pointless by then.

The answer to number 1 is: Goku never taught Vegeta or Piccolo anything (except maybe teaching Vegeta to do the "chicken ...uh, I mean... fusion dance"). They still see him as a rival. Maybe it would make sense for him to teach it to Kuririn or his own son, but not to them.

Well, didn't Vegeta beat up Gohan on Namek just to work off his grudge against Kakkarot? That definitely didn't "prove" anything since Vegeta had grown so many times stronger than he was on Earth.

1) Toriyama didn't want the whole cast knowing such an 'overpowered' move, however after the fusion Vegeta really should know how to use it, same with the SSJ3 transformation.

2) He didn't have time plus he has killed King Kai, might aswell go with him seeing as though it was Goku's fault. Just manners basically.

3) Vegeta surpassing 18 was enough, she was small fry by the time he came out of the HBTC.

Here's a simpler answer to all three questions: Toriyama did not think that far ahead.

1. Because Goku's selfish like that. He didn't even teach his own son anything, excluding how to become a SSJ. The real question is why couldn't any of the characters learn it themselves like Buu did. I'd think Piccolo or Vegeta would be capable of that.

2. Goku probably didn't have time to focus his energy with that much pressure. Besides, as others have said it would have been disrespectful to KK and he really didn't have a desire to keep living anyway.

3. He wouldn't have been able to sense her ki and locate her anyway. I'm sure she stayed good and clear of him for as long as possible. The only one that she probably would have associated with was Krillin and I don't see him inviting Vegeta over for dinner. 7 years later he probably didn't care, and was more interested in beating up Kakarott. Maybe he would have gotten in some vengence blows at the tournament if it had actually gone through.

Goku stayed with Cell because he wanted to. He says at the end of the saga Earth is better off with him dead.
