Just got this set. I was enjoying the dub until I had to listen to Puar. That voice is like nails on a chalk board to me. I couldn't take it anymore so I switched over. The Japanese mono actually sounds really great.

As soon as I get off of school I'm going to resume watching it. So worth a buy.
My friend broke my PSP just in time for Naruto Ultimate Ninja 5 to come out....WHOOOO!

I agree. Puar was the only voice from the original '95 dub that I prefer over the current dub. Although Chi-Chi had a pretty adorable voice in the '95 one too. I've been switching over to the original Japanese a lot, I'm going to go back and watch it all in Japanese but I wanna finish watching the first 13 with my favorite cast. :P

Now I'm crossing my fingers for a release of DB Movie 1. That's the only shred of DB related footage that I haven't seen.

Yes, I agree. My ears felt like they were bleeding...

I bared with it though, and found out that (her?his?) voice pitch is greatly reduced in the following episodes for whatever reason...

It's what I did with my Z movie singles as the Double Features were coming out, it's what I'll be doing with my Z Season Sets for the FuniBoxes, it's what I'll be doing with my couple DB singles and movies for any remastered equivalents, and I'll gladly keep doing it.

I'd rather have to replace something than end up missing out because I just waited for some future mystery-release. If that never comes out, then what happens? A few years down the line, and the previous, perfectly-good releases may have become rarer and harder to find.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
You don't mind losing money? And going through the stress and aggravation of selling things online?

It seems to me if you sell your DBZ season sets 1-9. You are going to lose money because Walmart sells most of the sets at $20 each. And you bought yours at $30 each probably. Nobody online is going to buy something used that they can get cheaper else where. So your looking at a bit of a loss up to $50 - $100 on these sets.

Oh well, it's your money. And I guess when it comes to Dragonball stuff, people don't mind getting ripped off over and over.

Take for instance the DB Kai Blu-Ray thread

Oh I'd bet my bottom dollar we'll be seeing this. I'm thinking they'll do double features for the 4 Dragonball movies.

(His I believe) How soon does the pitch change? I don't know if I can watch 10 episodes with that voice for Puar.Maybe I'll check the dub out again when the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai episodes roll around.

Puar is voiced by the same woman who did Chaozu.

Her Chaozu is better than her Puar, IMO.

I think he meant Puar when he said "his". Puar is male after all.

Wow that sucks dude. I never carry that much on me. Hopefully your wallet will be recovered.
Xd... My wallets always empty minus the fact I get $1000 every 2 weeks... I'm always buying anime oriented stuff or paying bills.

I actually like this release and it's really not that hard to get dragon box esque colors either. I've zoomed out the image and it's pretty darn close to dragon box.

From the above image, yea I see some missing image but nothing to get all pissed off about.

I messed with the image/colors to try and get the best possible colors for this set(actually these are my settings from my custom Blue-ray 1080p sets. I uh, transferred em to 1080p for my own pleasure)
^. this is before the HD settings btw.

It's a small image as it's zoomed by 1/2 as I usually have small windows open while I program in C++.

I just noticed that starting with episode 29 FUNi has gone back into the title cards and have taken out the American Dragon Ball logo from episodes 29+ to make it look similar to the Japanese version.

American logo? From the OP or from the title cards? I just watched it through marathon so never cared for TCs.

The second episode he/she appears in and onwards... Some episodes still have a higher voice pitch, but only a couple.

Not in the dub! I wasn't sure how it was in the original hence the parenthesis.

While I still haven't finished the first season boxset, the Funimation dub never really referred to Puar by anything gender-specific. But the profiles on the extras on the old DB dvds do refer to him by male pronouns. ocean dub called him a chick though. Likely due to them goofing on account of his voice. Remember hearing of Gash Bell fansubs screwing up and making making Zofis a woman, and dub got it right and kept him a man.

I know that FUNimation's dub referred to Puar as a female in the Saiyan arc redub (still). When Yamcha dies and Puar faints, Roshi says "Don't worry, she'll be alright."

I also think they referred to Puar as a "she" at least once in Dragon Ball Season One... I may have misremembered that though... I just finished watching it and I'm not going to go right back through the whole thing again just yet!

I will pretty much just never be able to see Puar as a male o_o It's just too burned into me that Puar's an adoreable little girl kitty, 'boku' or no 'boku.

I thought Puar WAS a guy, it's just weird to think of him as a girl.

Likely this weekend.

Masako Nazawa's little Goku is so CUTE! It's much different than Stephanie Nolandy's performance. The only thing I don't like, and I have the same gripe about DBZ in Japanese are the throaty sounds and gross-sounding screams. They really take me out of the show sometimes.
