DBZ Dethklok "Bloodlines" AMV

Post by ultimateemail5000 » Mon Nov 09, 2009 5:54 am

For those of you fans of Dethklok and of course DBZ. I bring you all the ultimate AMV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JclbteZr794

It took me about a week to finish this, I had this vision to try and fit all of the Ginyu, and Freeza saga fights into a 3 minute song, next thing I knew, I was adding clips of Bardock that way it showed Goku's bloodline, the Saiyans, and Bardock. Thus leading to the fight with Freeza. Enjoy.

I don't think this AMV is very good. It didn't have a clear purpose, it didn't have any effects, and the song was ill-fitting.

First, the purpose. I see that the song is called "Bloodlines" and that you began the video with Bardock. There may have been an intended connection there, but nothing serves to point that out. All there really was was the quick recap of Bardock vs Freeza then it jumped right to Goku landing on Namek. There was no connection, no transition, and no reference later. You also switched video sources which was noticeable and a little distracting. But I digress, if "bloodline" was your theme then you could have done a little more exploration of the Bardock family "bloodline;" with Radditz, Gohan, and Goten.

Second, effects, or lack there of. While the video quality was pretty good overall, and the sources were semi-consistent, the whole video was just straight cuts. Usually videos with no purpose and just a lot of ass kicking can be forgiven if they have some flashy effects. If you are incapable of these effects, and don't care to learn about them (much like me), then you should put more thought into the reason for your video, IMO. There's nothing wrong with just cuts, but with no direction or meaning behind them, it's really just a clip show with music.

Third, your song choice. Dethklok is a fictional novelty metal band. They're the stars of a comedy/parody show and their music, while definitely brutal, is not serious at all. In fact, it's supposed to be satirical. So to use one of their songs juxtaposed with footage from a predominately light-hearted shonen show, then present it with a serious tone... Well, that just doesn't seem right to me.

Pros:
- Good quality video source
- Easy to use video site
- Dedication and pride in your work

Cons:
- No distinct direction/purpose
- No effects
- Two separate video sources
- Poor choice of music

It's fantastic that you are getting out there and doing videos. You have the capabilities to make some really kick ass AMVs. I recommend checking out VegettoEX's DBZ AMV Guide for some direction and pro tips. I read it before doing some of mine and I think it really helped. And while I haven't watched very many of his or his friends' AMVs, if their Doomrider video is any testament to the skill and dedication, then they're probably pretty damn good.

Sorry for being so blunt. I hope I didn't offend. I'm just offering some feedback. Constructive criticism, if you will. I believe people should spend more time helping each other out by being honest about one anothers' work.

Okaay then, death metal must not be your thing, then maybe my DBZ video of South Parks Let's Fighting Love AMV I made last year is better?

Honestly I hate AMV's. I don't know why I even made Bloodlines. I just kept imagining Goku's fight with Freeza playing toward the end.

But now I have a Mario anime movie fandub on my page, so Bloodlines is honestly at the bottom of my movies to care for.

Nah, you're wrong. I love Death Metal. I've played bass for a few Death Metal bands. I also occasionally watch Metalocalypse.

I think you're misinterpreting my post. I was giving you feedback. There are no ulterior motives, I just want to give you some constructive criticism so that you can apply it to your next video and make a better one. Please don't be discouraged.

I understand the critcism, I thought in my mind it would come out good, but the end result wasnt really what I even wanted. Theres so much time to put into AMVs, but since I'm finishing SMB Great Mission to Save Princess Peach anime fandub(sorry but I gotta throw that link here,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZsgVkmUEoU now back on topic), I really rushed the video. Plus adding Bardocks storyline at the very last second changed a lot of the pacing.

But not because of your criticsm, I really doubt I'll do anymore AMVs. If anything anime related it will probably be a fan dub.

Okay, well, next time you get some feedback or criticism, don't make excuses for it. Just accept it and apply it next time. That's the best way to deal with it. Chances are, if somebody spent the time to tell you what sucks about something you've done, then they don't care to know the reason why.
