Most Shocking moments!

Not sure if anyone has done this or not, but what would you guys say were the most shocking moments in DB/DBZ? This refers to any moments that simply got your attention or made you think or say "Holy Crap!" For myself, I can't pick a #1, but the first one for me was when Raditz was dying and he was telling Piccolo how Nappa and Vegeta would come to Earth. After Golku asks how long they'll be his response being, "One year. And the best thing is, heh, heh, heh, they're much stronger than me!" I was thinking, "Two stronger guys in a year? Holy Crap!" Thoughts?

When I saw Goku go Super Saiyan for the first time.

I'd seen some DragonBall and parts of the Saiyan and Namek sagas before, so I had a pretty good idea of the characters.

Then, I tune in one day, and BAM Goku goes insane and turns into a Super Saiyan. I was hooked from then on.

For me it would have to be when Cell first made his appearance. I thought to myself "Where did he come from?". At the time, it was just something completely random to me. I seriously thought it was just going to be the Androids vs. The Z-senshi. I guess Toriyama thought to himself "Hey let's eliminate the threat of the Androids, then bring a bigger threat in a most unlikely form". That was my "Holy Crap!" moment

I would say, when Freeza enters his 4th transformation, and disposes of Vegeta with no problem. I was thinking, how the heck is Goku able to defeat this guy, if he is using a third of his power?
Also when Goku actually matched him at times, using his Kaiou-ken. After that, nothing really bothered me. I came to the conclusion that it is perfectly natural in the Dragonball world for fighters to suddenly obtain amazing power no one ever knew existed.

The Videl/Spopovitch fight. I was amazed at how brutal that was. At first, it was more of a "Damn, she hit him THAT hard and he got up?" Then it was "HOLY CRAP SHE BROKE HIS FREAKING NECK AND HE PUT IT BACK!" then it was "GEEZ JUST GIVE UP ALREADY!"

Dragon Ball:

1) that GOKU was the giant ape that killed his grandpa, in the Pilaf saga, considering the Pilaf saga was the first thing I saw I did NOT know to expect it at the time, dubbed stupid as it was I had my jaw to the ground about it, it was like HOLY CRAP!

2) Upon finally seeing the Red Ribbon arc, I'd seen flashbacks in DBZ before but just HOW damn bad Goku DESTROYED that army was just wow

Dragon Ball Z:

1) Goku....dies to Raditz. I'd come off of seeing just Dragon Ball Pilaf with the 1995 dub, so I didn't have anything between then and Z, so when he got himself killed I was in complete and total shock, it was only the second storyarch as far as I knew and they killed him (little did I know that there was more Dragon Ball until a bit later and it'd been some time since I'd seen DB so my memory allowed me to ignore the fact there were characters who werent around before like Krillin and Piccolo).

2) Piccolo's death, I had a good idea Piccolo was an ass bastard by the time we'd come this far, and I was floored by his willing sacrafice. It seriously combined with Goku's death is what got me into DBZ at all, the drama of DBZ got to me.

3) Super Saiyan Trunks cutting Freeza in half. I'd known about Super Saiyan before I saw the first transfomration thanks to a friend deciding it was a good idea to have me watch a fansub of movie 13 baclk when all we had was DBZ season 1 and 2. But the first time I saw the clip of Trunks slicing Freeza in half I think I wet my pants.

4) Super Saiyan 2 Gohan's transformation. Just wow and amazing, the first time I saw a clip of this I just couldnt get over it and watched it 5 or 6 times in awe of the well done scene, it was beyond anything DBZ had done beforehand. Purely amazing.

5) Goku: I'M GOING OFF TO TRAIN THIS RANDOM ASS KID NOW! BYE!

I just didn't se eit coming and it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense for him to abandon his family altogether.

Hmm, this really takes me back.

Goku turning Super Saiyan for the first time. I thought, "How's Goku going to get out of that situation? It's so impossible!" Then boom, Super Saiyan.

Gohan turning Super Saiyan 2 and beating Cell. My initial thoughts at the beginning of the Cell arc was that Goku was going to be the one to beat Cell. Boy, was I wrong.

I don't have too many that I can think up right now.

I dont think I was really suprised by any of it. I guess I read too many forums. But if I had to pick Id say

-Videl vs Spopovich
-Vejiita attacking the Tenkaichi Budokai stadium
-Vejiita commiting suicide

Nothing else really "shocked" me

Mmmm....probably when Son Goku died. I mean, he's the main character, who always somehow ended up surviving, even when all his friends were dying, to die so easily as to give his own life. Also Goku kicking the Red Ribbon Army's ass. The tankoubon with those issues is my favorite. And that whole running off with Uub really surprised/disappointed yet at the same time felt fitting to me.

Now that I think about it, its hard to list times when that really shocked me because whenever something major happens in anything I read or watch, I get shocked.

Well, I was introduced to the series while Gohan and co. was on Planet Namek. Since I noticed that the series took place on a planet where the sky is green and the grass is blue there really wasn't much more that could surprise me.

I think for me it wasn't really any of the fights. I mean, I knew that I was in for something awesome every time. It was more of the subtle moments, the ones that you don't really expect from a fighting show:
1. Trunks is Vegita and Bulma's child
2. Vegita sacrificing himself to defeat Buu
3. Goku has a second son (Goten!)

The whole Kuririn marrying 18 and growing his hair out completely caught me off guard too. Yeah, that was the most surprising part.^^

When Gohan screamed over Piccolo's death in the Saiyan saga (Japanese version).

I hadn't expected it to be so loud, and raw... @_@ Shocked the hell out of me.

Those shocked me too. When I first heard of Trunks, I thought that Frieza had missed another few Saiyans than he thought he had. And Krillin with hair

Most shocking moments eh? I'd say one of them was the introduction of #16. I remember thinking just like Trunks, "A third one?!" I had no idea what future part he would play, where Toriyama was going to go with it.

And Goku sacrificing his life at the end of the Cell Games. Didn't see that one coming.

Oh and how retarded Mr Satan really was the first time I ever saw him. I had heard, but nothing could prepare me for the real thing. XD

The Videl VS Majin Spopovitch fight is probably my favourite. When i first saw it i was more shocked then any other fight in DBZ. I was just watching and wondering "When is he going to stop?". Then the moment Gohan lost it, turned Super Saiyan and flew into the ring, taht got me excited. =P I thought Gohan was about to kick the crap out of Spopovitch for hurting Videl. Shame someone stopped him though.

I've got quite a lot.

1. Goku dying to Raditz. First time I was watching that ep, I was like "Goku can beat this guy.". Then once I saw Piccolo shoot his beam, killing both, that just left me in a state of shock.

2. Goku going SSJ for the first time. Same reason that Rocketman pointed out.

3. Cell returning after Goku's sacrifice. Yeesh, I thought it was all over, until Cell came back and became even stronger. Which is why I was also surprised when...

4. Gohan went SSJ2. Need I say more?

5. Goku fusing with Vegeta. I was sure he'd fuse with Gohan until Buu absorbed him. Then Vegeta came along and when they fused, I went from "Oh crap!" to "Whoa, cool!"

6. Super Buu becoming Kid Buu. See Cell returning.

7. Majin Vegeta's sacrifice. Yeah, I never expected Vegeta to blow himself up to save the others in vain.
