I don't think they look the same.

Edit: Taku128 beat me to it, well the DVD doesn't look the same.

He meant similar in blandness, as in how bland they look.

I don't care if it looks bland, the Dragon Boxes have lots of empty yellow space, I don't give a damn about that either, I wanna see it, and I'll probably watch the whole thing dubbed...

Wish they would bump it up to 16 to cover the whole arc. I do not mind the box art, could have been worse in my opinion.

Yeah, that's what I meant. They're both simply a picture of a character with a bland background. It's funny how everyone creamed themselves over the Dragon Box cover, even though this is the exact same style.

I think it has charm. I guess I'm not terribly picky about boxart...but it's too bad they just didn't use one of the Japanese covers.

Anyhow, the light orange on white is better than the orange bricks any day.
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

Not really. The DragonBox covers were all pretty-well drawn and made good use of the space from a artistic perspective. This one...well, Goku looks off (as does a lot of the Kai artwork), and it just looks lazy. I'm hoping it's a quick mock-up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it be final art.

Why can't FUNi learn from Viz/Geneon/Bandai/etc? If cover art exists, use it. :P

According to One Piece Podcast: thirteen for the first set.

Both DVD and Blu-ray are expected to be 4:3.
Zach also mentioned that we'll be seeing a couple of voice cast changes.

Monica Rial - Bulma
Brina Palencia - Chaozu and Puar
Doc Morgan - Narrator
Colleen Clinkenbeard - Son Gohan

Gohan's voice will be interesting to hear. I wonder if she will try to stay the same or try something new?

I really have nothing much to say on the boxart. The Japanese covers are better, but I didn't expect it to be any other way.

As for the 4 announced cast replacements, I am happy as I didn't like any of the previous voices for any of those characters. Hopefully, the quality of the dub will be improved, if only a little.

I probably won't be buying Kai, but I'm a little surprised they're not using the original dvd covers. As for the artwork, I tend to enjoy most new DB artwork, so I don't have any dislike of the Funi cover. I do think they have too much white space though; I'd like to have a backdrop behind Goku.

With the voices, I said in the other thread that Renge!Bulma should be interesting to hear. I'm curious to hear what all the redubbed characters will sound like.
On hiatus.

While I don't suppose that it's my God-given right to complain, I am absolutely LIVID concerning the replacement of Stephanie Nadolny as Gohan. I understand that her interpretation is not necessarily reflective of Masako Nozawa, but at the same time it IS what I'm used to after she's spent this many years making the role into her own.

I am hellbent on uncovering the reasons behind this change.

Wow this really p*sses me off so freaking Bad. I wouldn't have minded a new narrator and even puar wouldn't have bothered me that much but Gohan, Bulma and Chauzu. It just disgust's me, I know some of you Japanese fans are rejoicing but this destroys kai for me. I love Stephanie Nadolny and now gohans going to be voiced by princess snake??? Same thing with Tiffany Vollmer's Bullma, now she's going to be voiced by yu yu hakusho's game master? Say what you want but dragon ball z kai will not be as good as I hoped it would

I believe she doesn't do voicework anymore. She even told me in a PM on the Funi forums last years that she was most likely gonna move to California.

But yeah, Stephanie Nadolny was absolutely awesome and it's a shame they couldn't get her to reprise her role.

If it's that Stephanie chose not to reprise her role, then that's her prerogative and I respect it. But if she was replaced for "other" reasons then I do not respect that. Hence why I am determined to know the exact causes for the change-- I don't want to be upset if this turns out to have been her own choice, after all.

But she will be missed, regardless of the reasons. Lord help me if they replace Kara Edwards as Goten down the line.

4:3 no matter what? yes!

13 episodes? Better than my prediction, but it's a weird number.

Cover art? Pretty nice!

Cast changes? I hope the narrator sounds more like the DB dub narrator.

A lot of it's probably political stuff since many of those actors don't work with FUNimation on a constant basis. Notice you never hear any of those gals in particular in ANY other properties of theirs? That and I'm assuming most of the other changes from Raging Blast will be carried over here.

Stephanie Nadolny is getting replaced? The Kai dub may be at least somewhat better after all.

That . . . is an opinion. I respect it. Needless to say, it differs from mine.

Rargh.

Was Stephanie Nadolny Gohan in Raging Blast? I know that there were a few changes, like Cell, but does anyone have a full list?

She was, but the Dragon Ball Z games are recorded at Okratron5000 so if there were issues between her and FUNimation they wouldn't have been prevented her from working on the games.
