Tiencha... is OK?!

Post by SHINOBI-03 » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:14 am

"What's with the name censorship?" is locked... and so, I had to make a new one just for this name...

Tiencha...

Why it's not filtered?!

If Tien's dub name is filtered, why not Tiencha as well?! Why not make it turn to "Yamhan"?

You could say the same thing about a bazillion different "reversion"-exclusive name changes, and almost all of them boil down to one of or a combination of the following:

(1) The admins forget about them
(2) Contrary to what some people think, the name filters aren't our OMG BIGGEST 100% priority in the world :)
(3) That particular one just hasn't been raised for discussion before

But yeah. It probably should. It's a bastardization of a bastardization, and really has no place being used in the greater-fandom of the world, outside of English-specific DBZ 2 / Budokai 2 talkings, I suppose. The only thing it has going for it was that the American version of the game came out first...

I really hate when my name conventions of choice get filtered out. I feel like I'm being singled out and told to buck up and change because somebody else doesn't like it. I am an educated and well versed fan who chooses to use Tiencha regardless of its origin and reasoning.

Tiencha simply sounds better. Let's take a closer look:

"Yamhan". Look at this pathetic word. A soft little "yh" sound to start, a soft "ah", a gentle hum with "em", then "h", the letter so weak it is classified as voiceless, finishing with a soft sigh and hum with "ah" and "en". There is no power in this word. It hangs limp across the tongue, a disappointment to all.

Now, "Tiencha", there is a word with strength! A mighty "Te" to begin, a solid bridge with "ee", then an explosion with "ch" that echoes into the "ah". This word shall never fail you with its unimprovable irrigidity.

Just look at the companion names, too! "Goku", a hard G and K, "Goten", hard G and T, even "Gohan" keeps the strike of the hard G! "Vegeta/to", "Trunks", "Raditz", "Freeza", "Mister Satan/Hercule", "Nappa", all words with power in them!

Then compare to the flaccid "Yamhan" and you shall see who stands taller.

If Yamcha is romanized as Yamucha*, and the name spelled out as Yamuhan, it seems less weird. However, Yamhan does sound lame.

*Doesn't Mato translate Yamcha this way?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
As a matter of fact... it ISN'T.

Post by Kaboom » Mon Apr 19, 2010 9:21 am

Well, considering that lately for Kai and such, FUNimation is trying to use his "full" name, "Tienshinhan" or what-not... I guess that would make "Tiencha" lean a little more towards kinda-almost-maybe correct. It's only taking part of his whole name, like other Fusions.

But the part that still makes it wrong is that "Tiencha" isn't his name. He already had a name: "Yamhan," and it was changed to something else.
