There's no doubt that the Dragon Box is better, if anyone says otherwise they are a communist.

And it's currently unknown whether or not they'll do Dragon Boxes for Dragon Ball or GT, but if they sell well enough then it might be possible, so get the Dragon Box! :D

The second one (Dragon Box). I could go on and on about them, but this review should tell you all you need to know.

Don't know when, but they probably will.
If FUNi can make money off it, then they will sell it

That's the right answer! Good job! :P

They are massively better than the "remastered sets".
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

I would actually recommend going with the season sets. You get a 16:9 widescreen transfer from the original film prints, and you get the amazing dub music from Mr. Bruce Faulconer. In order to make the widescreen effect work, you must watch episodes from the season sets on a widescreen monitor, whether it be a television's or a Sony portable DVD player.

Cheers!

Please ignore post please! This guy is lying right off the bat and he knows it. I'd complain more, but nothing I could say would not lead me to a ban.

Not really seeing the upside to either of those. The whole 16:9 remastered thing would be like getting a neat new toy with its arms broken off and spraypainted neon. And the "original film print" is something of a misnomer. It's some form of generational interpositive. As for the music... well, I can't really argue with you on that one. Even though I strongly, strongly, strongly disagree, you are right that it's there, it's not there in the Dragon Boxes (thank goodness), and if you want it, it's the only way to get it. You just have to endure all kinds of other letdowns to get there.

I'm not trying to start a riot or anything, I'm merely stating to the tc why I feel he should go with the season sets. They're flawed, sure, but it's not as though they don't completely have anything to offer, so...

...Are you insane?! What do you mean "in order to make the widescreen effect work?" And what is the upside of cropping off 20% of the vertical picture, resulting in chopped heads, along with over-brightening the image, especially in Season Two, and having tons of missing detail and lines until Season Six?

The truest, biggest film buffs will tell you how destructive DVNR and cropping are to the original source material, and only someone who knows nothing about film integrity and who wants the "cleanest, least "grainy", "newest" look" from old 80's/early 90's footage will tell you otherwise. Believe it or not, Dragon Ball Z isn't the only old animated or otherwise show to receive this travesty of a "remastering" job, and you will find many videos on YouTube and articles on other sites which will be complaining against similar film butchering.

If missing heads and overly bright footage, cropped heads and absolutely destroyed framing is what you are looking for, then buy the Dragon Boxes, press zoom on your TV remote, and set your TV's brightness, contrast, and saturation to their highest levels and spare the rest of us.

I really hope you are just trolling or joking..

I hope you're being sarcastic.

Anyway, the choice is obvious. The DragonBoxes are the way to go. They're probably the single best DragonBall product that FUNimation has ever produced for all the reasons everyone has already noted.

The Season Sets are inarguably flawed, cheap (and not in the good way), releases, and have been rendered moot in light of the Dragon Boxes. Comparing them to the Dragon Boxes is like comparing a demolished mud hut to a mansion.

The only "feature" of the Season Sets that anyone might want and not be able to get from the Dragon Boxes is the Faulconer-music dub track. But unless you're absolutely lusting over that for some reason and can't live without it or bear to outgrow it, then it means nothing, and the Dragon Boxes are still clearly superior in every way.

I'm sure I'm going with the Dragonbox! I'll buy Dragonball Kai on Blu-ray also.

I have one more question: I used to watch DBZ in English and it used to have this intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Hjf43k3Cs -- is that the one with the Faulconer music?

Yes and no. That's "Rock the Dragon." It was used in conjunction with the Shuki Levy score for the now-discarded first two seasons, so no. But yes in the fact that it continued to be used as the theme song and ending theme in season three, after Bruce Faulconer started doing the score.

Y'see, it's responses like these that get a lot of dubbies upset. I find it so laughably hypocritical of you to always suggest for everyone to keep it civil in the threads you visit, but then you go and say something like that. I'm all for differing opinions, but there's that line that just shouldn't be crossed.

You're a smart person, right? I'm sure you know what you were implying with that statement? In case you didn't, I'll say it, then. You were implying that because the dub music was designed for kids, older fans introduced via FUNI's dub should've out-grown it by now. But I ask you; Is it really that hard to believe that older fans just still prefer it regardless? Why is it so impossible for you and other subbies to deal with the fact that us guys on the other side feel that the dub music is so much better?

Eh, I'll never respond to you again.
