"DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I would have liked to hear Chris attempt a Freeza laugh, but maybe he couldn't.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Since the "hohoho" is a Nakao thing, maybe he just wanted to do an accurate portrayal of the character instead of imitating another actors work. I don't know.Blue wrote:I would have liked to hear Chris attempt a Freeza laugh, but maybe he couldn't.
Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Ginyu Force makes for a acceptable shortened translation of the Ginyu Tokusentai. Would you have prefered "Ginyu Special Squad", "Ginyu Special Task-Force" or would you go as far as request they don't translate Tokusentai? Why is something as minor as a slightly incomplete translation a blow to the balls?Rory wrote:Ugh. I want to like this dub, I really do, good Goku, great Freeza, great Gohan. But shit like this, "I hate the media" and "Tri-Beam" still hold me back. Really? Still a retarded Reacoom? Still an Aussie Jheese? The song kinda' blew too. "Ginyu Force" being kept is another blow to the balls for me (I know people will say I'm nitpicking there, but it's small things like that which irritate me even more).
It seems every time this dub does something great, it also takes a few steps back.
So much hate around here for the "I hate the media" line. It was one freak'n line. Geez.
I'll agree using Tri-Beam still is stupid and there's no reason they couldn't call him Tenshinhan now but it's not something that particularly ruins the experience for me.
The jury is out on whether Reacoom still acts derpdaderp though. We'll know soon enough.

There's no real reason to be defensive about it (assuming I'm reading your post in the correct tone). That Freeza laugh has always been part of the character to me and I would like to have heard it in English. I wasn't saying he SHOULD have done it, it just would have been fun to hear. I'm not a huge anime fan so if he does that laugh for every character I was unaware of that.

I'm not being defensive and I didn't mean any such tone so I'm sorry if it came off like that. I agree, I would've liked to hear it took. I was just trying to think of a reason why. I don't think Nakao did this for all of his characters, I just assumed it was something he decided to do. That is, unless Freeza's laughs are written "ho ho ho" in the manga, which I wouldn't know about.Blue wrote:There's no real reason to be defensive about it (assuming I'm reading your post in the correct tone). Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I imagine Chris could do a good "ho ho ho" type laugh but it wouldn't sound like Nakao.

I apologize as well. Thank you for clearing things up. ^_^batistabus wrote: I'm not being defensive and I didn't mean any such tone so I'm sorry if it came off like that.

It's been so long now since I've read the Japanese manga (books are in storage!), but I'm pretty sure he did have that "ho ho ho!" laugh in Japanese.batistabus wrote:I'm not being defensive and I didn't mean any such tone so I'm sorry if it came off like that. I'm really surprised that line is getting as much flack as it is. That's one of my favorite lines in the dub. Yes, it drew me out of the story as people noted, but it was not enough to ruin my enjoyment. It drew me out, but I was back in in five seconds and thought it might have been a clever nod to DBZ Abridge. On top of that it was a mere four words...it reminds me of the people who say they hate the dub but then the only thing they reference is Season 3 of the Z dub.Rory wrote:Ugh. A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Recoome still sounds pretty DERPADERP, though slightly less than before. Jeese sounds worse than ever. But the others are okay.

Am I the only one who hears a slight Southern accent on Ginyu
New Jeice is awful, it seems like he was recasted just for the sake of being recasted. Sabat should have kept the role.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Reacoom sounds significantly less retarded. Jheese's australian accent was also toned down a lot, but his actor doesn't seem to be too good. Ginyû sounds good.
Oh, and Nicktoons (or possibly FUNimation) screwed up. Episode 29 has the next episode preview for episode... 29 instead of 30. Yeah, the preview for the episode you just watched. Good going, guys.

What? No it wasn't... They definitely didn't fight Recoome this episode...Puto wrote:Oh, and Nicktoons (or possibly FUNimation) screwed up. Episode 29 has the next episode preview for episode... 29 instead of 30. Yeah, the preview for the episode you just watched. Good going, guys.

I meant on the website, not on TV. I couldn't watch the TV broadcast because Mendinso couldn't stream it tonight.Metalwario64 wrote:What? No it wasn't... Ah, I see. Must've been a Nicktoons error then, because the TV broadcast had the correct preview.Puto wrote:I meant on the website, not on TV. Guldo is Greg Ayres, Chris is Freeza. I think the Ginyu Force sounds great, and I guess it's only me who likes all of them. Recoome's retarded voice has been toned down a lot, Jeice is still Aussie which is great, and his voice sounds more natural than when Sabat voiced him even though I didn't think Sabat sounded bad as Jeice, Burter is much better than before. Elliot's Ginyu sounds very close to Brice Armstrong's Ginyu, and Guldo sounded almost the same as before.NeoKING wrote:Sweet, Chris Ayres is doing Guldo and is using his Onigiri(Air Gear) voice XD.

I really like the new Jeice. His Australian accent is less obnoxious. The new Ginyu's pretty awesome too. It's like a younger sounding version of Armstrong. It just really fits as the confident leader. Great voice.

Yes, much better toned down Recoome. I am a happy camper. It's smooth flying from here on out in the recast department (in my book anyway.)
