Re: Did Anime Labs translate the entire DBZ series?

Post by Blue » Sun Jul 11, 2010 4:15 pm

After watching these clips I've come to the conclusion Anime Labs was run by pissy 13 year olds. It is mind numbingly stupid that they'd put that shit on the footage itself.

So did they actually dub any of it, or did they only ever sub it? Is there a such thing as a FanDub? (I'm not on about stuff like team4star and abridged series)
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force

If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure :)

If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me :)

The subtitles on the Dragon Box are the REAL Dragonball Z.

Yup, fandubs exist, except they go nowhere, so thus started the tradition of shortening down anime for s**ts and giggles.

I remember snarky comments from back in the day (stuff like "if you paid $X for this you got ripped off") though I don't remember ever seeing something that extreme. Pointless colorful language and using their subtitles like their own personal message board to call out specific people? That's hardcore.

I love these. Keep them coming. I'm now subscribed to that channel.

Is there any way that I can get the VHS tapes with the Anime Labs subtitles?

You know, I remember that ending from Movie 13 with all the different coloring jobs from the old fansub. What was that from and anybody know of a good version of that particular Cha La instrumental?

Well I pretty much went through all the tapes that I had so I'm probably not going to post anything more unless there's a specific request for something. And I can't post the "candy ass f" line because that's in episode 130 and I only have that saga up to 129

I don't think its still possible to buy those tapes... maybe there might be some shop in a china town that still sells them, but I doubt it. Back then they could be found because it was pretty much the only way to see the episodes

You know, a lot of these are more "fair" than I expected. "Kuso" to "shit," and some other literal translations for example.

That said, it's still way over the top, the context between the English and Japanese phrases is not the same, and you can tell they were obviously trying hard to make it more bad-ass than it really is. Hilarious stuff now.

Also, fucking lost it on their little "Everyone else is trying to push bad shit on you," message. Godspeed, Anime Labs. Godspeed.

EDIT - Oh god, I love every single one of these personal messages they included. This is gold.

OMG, the videos with the "messages" are so funny. If there's anymore, please don't be afraid to upload them. :P

I remember watching the sub version of Movie 12 that Anime Labs did. I recall them adding the word "Fuck" in the subs when Pikkon was yelling out bad words at Janemba? The Anime Labs videos bring back good memories :D.

You wouldn't happen to have the episode where Goku defeats Nappa, would you? I remember Goku having some line about "Get off my fucking planet," or something that was so uncharacteristically funny of Goku.

That's too bad because I want to see "It's over 9000!" scene, Nappa probably said "What the hell!" after he heard Goku's battle power.

From what I could find out, those episodes were never done by Anime Labs

According to this page:
http://www.angelfire.com/mi/tENCHImUYO/dbz.html

Those episodes seem to have been made by some group called "NGN/EP" whatever that refers to

That was pretty informative! I never really searched for info about Anime Labs myself because by the time I even cared about them they had likely stopped subbing and FUNi was putting out their own DVDs.

"NGN" was "Nippon Golden Network", a legitimate TV channel that was based out of... err... was it Hawaii...? My Saiya-jin arc subs were theirs. I believe they did Z episodes 1-100, and at least some portion of the first TV series.
