But seriously, I like Wakamoto's voice acting. He does a good job in all of his roles. I wouldn't go so far as to call him god of the Anime voice acting world or whatever, though.

But they say God in FUNi's other dubs... Dragon Ball should be no different.

Like I said, it's just one of those occasional holdovers from the old dub, like Tien, Tri-Beam, etc. Not really for censoring purposes, or it wouldn't be on the uncut DVD. The TV version called Eneru a King, while the DVDs called him a God.

You have to circumvent it. Put one of the letters in a formatting wrapper. Bold, or italicize one of the letters or spaces in between.Mewzard wrote:I know I posted Tenshinhan, something changed it. It's absolutely fucking obnoxious that we can't have conversations about this without having to jump through hoops.

Re: Future Kai DUB Re-casts speculation
The subs have been accurate for some time now. These little things are probably bits for the fans of the dub. To some people, that's not that big a deal, to others, it's ruining of the series again. Like I said, just depends how tolerant you are to deviation from the source material.linkdude20002001 wrote:But even the subtitles use it. I don't understand why. Probably because "it's a Japanese word that's difficult to translate or has a special meaning". Kinda like the word "nakama".linkdude20002001 wrote:No, I mean that the subtitles use Kami instead of God. It discombobulates me... Lol.

I'm assuming in the subs, Kami is kept to keep it consistent with Kaio-sama. Only reason I could think of, the dub though. I'm thinking it's their way to still call him God without actually doing it. Only thing that seems wrong with that is people might think his name is actually Kami, when it's just a title.

Re: Future Kai DUB Re-casts speculation
I doubt it has anything to do with the dub, as FUNimation's rewriting of Simmons's subtitles only occurred in the first two DVDs FUNimation ever put out.

Tell that to FUNimation and Kaizoku Fansubs. The latter actually argues that "nakama" is untranslatable and should be left in Japanese.SSJ4 Furanki wrote: God, friends, shouldn't be that hard to translate.

Re: Future Kai DUB Re-casts speculation
I'm not saying that FUNi did that. I just think it's an odd choice for Daimao to make. Maybe he didi it because that's what the fans called him already??Gaffer Tape wrote:I doubt it has anything to do with the dub, as FUNimation's rewriting of Simmons's subtitles only occurred in the first two DVDs FUNimation ever put out.
But even that could be interpreted the same as Gokuh of Earth (as in saying that where he's from.Metalwario64 wrote:If they watch Kai, they will know he is the "Kami of Earth."

Re: Future Kai DUB Re-casts speculation
Which is so weird because outside of that they do a pretty great job. I mean occasionally they pull an Anime Labs (luckily no F bombs have been dropped I believe) but they do a pretty competent translation if it wasn't for that bizarre need to leave every other words in Japanese and put a translation note on the top of the screen. (Are they even still fansubbing?)Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:The latter actually argues that "nakama" is untranslatable and should be left in Japanese.SSJ4 Furanki wrote: God, friends, shouldn't be that hard to translate.
