Kelamis never came off as forced. His acting for light hearted scenes is helped by a lighter sounding voice. He's a professional comedian so that may have helped him. It's not just light hearted, he can sound impressive even when Goku is serious and confident, as seen in the Reccomme fight, #19 fight and discussions relating to ascending beyond Super Saiyan.

By "piss poor, rushed dub" you mean the FUNimation dub. If you were referring to the Westwood/Ocean dub then you then you either haven't seen it, need to clean your ears out or you have a fundamentally unreasonable bias against it, which would be ironic/hypocritical considering you accuse penguintruth of that same thing.

Even though I'm on Mr. Mark's side...you guys are both acting pretty silly. Mr. Mark's keeps making back handed jokes, and RazorX, you're being borderline delusional.

I'm not quite the devotee of Kelamis as RazorX is, and I have to agree with some of you in the sense that some of the clips I've heard of the later Ocean dub seemed really awkward, but I agree with the spirit of his comments, that Kelamis really is at least a fair Goku, certainly better than Schemmel.

But anyway, the character I'll be listening to closely tonight will be Freeza.

Yeah, isn't this the episode where he is supposed to say "You can keep that as a back-scratcher! Ahahahaha! Back-scratcher! Where do I come up with this stuff?!"? Let's just hope that FUNimation can at least get that right...

penguintruth wrote:Maybe I'm just bothered by it blatently being Klassen, where with Corlett and Kelamis you could at least convince yourself it was somebody else. I'm not a huge fan of any of the dub Roshis, to be honest, but at least Funimation got somebody completely different to be their Roshi at some point.
I was satisfied with all the Ocean dub Roshis as well as FUNi's Kai Roshi. Same actor but he's definitely improved.

However, the best dub Roshi has to be Dean Galloway for Blue Water Studios dub of Dragon Ball. He could sound wise, lecherous, serious, authoritative and comedic. It was brilliant.
penguintruth wrote:By the way, that scene where Goku has recovered? I've seen the Westwood version of that, and Kelamis is damn good in that. Even Chi-Chi's VA was pretty good there.
I loved that scene in the Westwood/Ocean dub. Everything about it was perfect, including the music.

Ocean's Chichi voice, Laara Saadiq, is brilliant throughout. She puts effort into every scene & she can sound motherly. I was glad that Ocean got her back for their dub instead stead of Lisa Ann Baily (movies 1 and 2). Lisa is good but Laara brings much more to the role.

Your text does not reflect what he said, he genuinely sounded angry. I can't hear Nadolny type "waeaahs" at all.

Perhaps you can elaborate instead of turning up to throw insults.

I wouldn't use that term. I prefer Ian Corlett. But one preference does not mean an automatic dislike to the others.
penguintruth wrote:But anyway, the character I'll be listening to closely tonight will be Freeza.
Ayres did a good job when Freeza is calm but yeah now we should get an idea of how he might handle the battle scenes. Not much though since Freeza dominates Nail.

The moment I heard that GUH I knew Peter was Schemmel's superior in every way. The character of Son Goku and GUH really goes hand in hand with defining the character.

Judging from the clip of ep 33 so far, Freeza's taunts seem pretty damn close to the original, I can't wait to hear more!

RazorX, all you're doing is just saying, "You're wrong, I'm right!" to everybody without even bothering to elaborate beyond "It should be obvious" or making other backhanded insults.

An example of someone who couldn't even be bothered to read posts before replying with a one sentence "you're delusional." I elaborated on why I liked Kelamis' Goku, and not just in one post. Since you couldn't take the time to read them, I will give you an example:
RazorX wrote:I like Kelamis because he can really portray the light hearted side of Goku and his voice is decent, not just because he can scream well.
In that same post there are at least five other reasons why I like Kelamis' Goku. Not counting the posts that came thereafter. How is that delusional, because you don't agree with them?

And I'm saying everybody's wrong? I recall having this discussion with only 2 people so far, so how is that everybody? And how is disagreeing with one of their views the same as saying "You're wrong, I'm right." I even recall adding in "It's a matter of taste" somewhere in our discussion, and that means we have different tastes. Looks like you need more practice at being a wanabee mini mod.

This episode is amazing thus far. I really adore the script. Chris's Freeza is nothing short of bad ass.

Nail is also decent.

This dub is leagues ahead of FUNi's season 3, it feels a bit strange to have some sort of quality in the Ginyu vs Goku episodes dub wise. But the only dub benchmark we had of these episodes is season 3. The fact that the bar was so low for the Ginyu vs Goku episodes enhances the quality of Kai's dub "aesthetically".

Really, this is one of the best dubbed episodes of this series, if not the best.

This episode needs a standing ovation. I think I'll do just that.

I have to say, Ginyu's Transformation...you are missed. I love Sean's wavering Goku yells. I literally couldn't be happier with how the Saiyan and Namek sagas have turned out to this point dub wise. (Well...okay there IS Recoome, I could probably be happier with that.)

Schemmel's Goku was okay this time around. I retract my 1999 comment...for now.
Still it's sad someone as minor as Nail is much better suited for the man than a character he's been playing since episode 1.
*Sigh* What a pity.
Freeza on the hand... man oh man is he good. Orgasmically good (Okay that was creepy.....), still Ayres I love you.
A Dragon Ball/Urusei Yatsura crossover would be awesome.
Having Toshio Furukawa balance between Piccolo and Ataru would be hilarious.

I really wish Viz's manga would have cranked up the polite, proper dialogue like Kai has. They did a good job but man, the Z Kai script writers absolutely nailed what Freeza was all about.

Edit: HA HA THE NEXT EPISODE PREVIEW IS FUCKING AMAZING! OH MAN THAT IS AWESOME!

R. Bruce Elliot's Ginyu was amazing in this episode! When he injured himself, he sounded like he was in genuine pain! Ayres' Frieza was better than ever, and the scripts were dead on. Schemmel did great here too, especially in the delivery of the "I haf'ta figure that you're not all that bad." line, and the "y'know... Vegeta said something about a "Super Saiyan" too... Sorry, but I have no idea what you're talkin' about..." line. Man the scripts are great. Shame that the "pain's too strong" scene isn't until next week!
