Nail isn't a recast. It's still Sean Schemmel, he just changed his voice/delivery.

The fact that you somehow "know" this without it never having come into fruition is just laughable. But please, don't hesitate to prove me, y'know, "wrong".

I'm just going by the Freeza she's been doing for, ya know over a decade. It doesn't mater how good Linda is in other roles, Her voice is just wrong for the character period. It'd be like someone saying Masako Nozawa would be a good Vegeta, her voice would be wrong, no matter how talented she is.

Let's just agree to disagree, then. Her portrayal might've been wrong to you and many others, but it's not as though you're speaking for everyone.

I'm going by what works best for the character, not by what group of fans prefer Linda or whatever they grew up with.

Dude, stop.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!

Hell, I've always said that she isn't that talented in the first place. Granted, I've only seen her in one other show, Yu Yu Hakusho, but her Genkai was somewhat forced and annoying, too. Yeah, at least she's actually playing an old lady in that one, but...

She also does Baba. And saw an ep of FMA Brotherhood a couple of weeks ago and recognized her voice as an old Ishbalan woman and saw her name in the credits. Though will say, there are times where some people are good actors, but some voices they do wouldn't work for particular characters. For example, I can't picture Sonny Strait as Inuyasha or Richard Ian Cox as Usopp. Another example, found this clip of Laura Bailey doing Tohru in her Lust voice. While it is funny, if done in Fruits Basket in reality, it would be very wrong.

Metalwario64 wrote: As I've stated his actual voice was a bit inconsistent in the earlier episodes, but it was his first time in this role, so it's only natural that he would be trying to find his ground in the role, as is the case with just about any actor. Not to mention the role he is taking on is a very difficult one to pull off.
Normally he would've had time to practice the role, but since he got the job in the middle of production of an already rushed dub, he had to do his best to get into the role quickly. That showed, but it wasn't too much of a problem.
Metalwario64 wrote:so far he is every bit as good, if not a bit better than Nakao's Kai performance.
I'd say that's an overstatement. Ayres is good, but he's not on par with Nakao whether it's his Z or Kai versions. Nakao's got the faux politeness mastered. Not only that, even when he's conversing with the Namekians, you can sense the menace in Nakao, and when Freeza's angry. Nakao also does the psychotic yells very well.
MR.Mark wrote:I admit he sounded very Newstone like during his introductory line
Well at least you can hear the obvious now, in contrast to your stubborn denials before.
MR.Mark wrote:or razorX pointless crusade for a dub nobody here seems to care about anyway.
Not any less pointless than your "crusade" to force everyone to like Ayres' Freeza.

This thread proves you wrong. You need to stop acting like you know what everybody likes or that you speak for them.
sun_wukong86 wrote: I think what is doing it for me is that they finally gave Chris Sabat a break.
I think Sabat wanted to keep his roles. He did way too many in Funi's Z dub and still has too many in Funi's Kai dub.

MR.Mark wrote:Her voice is just wrong for the character period.
No it wasn't. Linda did a good job with Freeza's transformations, in particular his final form. I doubt anyone at FUNimation could've done as good a job, which is why they brought someone from outside to take over the role in Kai.

Eh, just to clarify on that, Ayres has been in a number of FUNimation projects prior to Kai. Unless I'm misreading this and you mean "outside of the DBZ cast"(which... would be kind of silly, as it implies they'll just mix and match seven different people in various roles).

@RazorX: Yuck, Linda Young's final form Freeza was always the most forced, to me. I simply can't listen to that voice without throwing up.

It's been a while since I've heard Young's Freeza, so I had to look it up on YouTube. I am not pleased... Goku vs Freeza (final form). I love how the subtitles are there telling you what they're really saying. Lol.

Her season 3 stuff isn't exactly the best example.

I can't tell the difference. I blame YouTubers for thinking widescreen is cool. I saw it was in widescreen, so I assumed it was from the "season" sets.

What? It is from the season set, because it has the Japanese music and lines are disappearing... but what does that have to do with anything?

I meant those who have worked on FUNimation's in house dubs relating to the DB series prior to Kai. I haven't heard much of what Funimation has done outside of DB, but I can't see anyone who's worked on Funi DB being a better Freeza than Young. I dislike a lot of Funi's voices so that may be a factor

Linda's most forced voice for Freeza was when she first took over the role in season 3, although she was better than a lot of the other new voices.

I found her final form to be confident, cocky and maniacal when overpowered.

She did better after the SSJ transformation but she sounds fine there; cocky and condescending.

No it isn't. She seemed to have improved quicker than some of the others.

1. Daaaaaayum Freeza looks like ass.
2. Daaaaaayum Freeza sounds like ass.

@jjgp1112: Granted, the acting was improved in Freeza's later Z apperances and movie 12/GT, but it still sounds like garbage to me. I just don't see Freeza as a chain-smoking granny!
