Excellent review Mike, you left out the fact that FUNi is now leaving out even a dub-only "next-EP preview" for the dvd's final episode (which for the American market, would of made it as Uncut as possibly done), other than that, covered it top-notch perfectly.

Once more, here is my own review on it: http://www.dbzoa.net/modules.php?op=mod ... 173&page=1 .
Not that I'm badmouthing your review but on your nitpick about them not crediting those who worked on the Spanish version, Funimation isn't alone in that. Warner doesn't credit those who worked on the Spanish/French tracks of any their animated dvds either.

For those complaining about the DVD prices, you should know that for the exception of Cell Games, Great Saiyaman, Ultimate Uncut and the movies the rest of the DVDs are being released for under $15 each. Also I hope I'm not going too far off topic posting this, sorry if I am.

Well, I finally received my starter set yesterday. :)
I must say that, in my opinion, the Dub isn't that good. :(
The new music can be very annoying, and the opening and credits are even worse! :o
The voice-actors did do a good job though, Justin Cook's Raditz isn't that bad.

The Box-Art is nice, but I would have liked it better if they didn't make it so dark/horror/bloody like. :?
The special features could have been worse, Goku Vs. Vegeta was very funny sometimes, and I'll just keep my mouth shut about those "DBZ fans".

In conclusion; it could have been better, and it could have been worse. :)
It could have been better if they kept the original music, or even Faulconer, in the dub, instead of the new music, and it would have been worse if they had never started releasing these episodes at all.

better with Falconer are you nuts? Definitely better with the original scoe but really this is leaps and bounds beyond what Falconer kitty keyboard did. As for theme song, try listening to rocking the dragon and still hatng on that. By no means was this dub superior to the sub but it is leaps and bounds above what was previously made.

Still, no next-EP preview for the dvd's final episode, not even a dub only. I will never be fully satisfied I guess, I blame both Toei and FUNi. Toei for providing the audioless previews and textless openings/endings, and FUNi for redubbing the videos they had stashed in the basement for 10 years (when they possibly could of shot for the Dragon Box Editions), as well as not going as Uncut as reasonably possible.

I'll NEVER be satisfied!!! :x

Not sure if anyone else agrees whith me, but I hate next episode previews. They give too much away, in my view.

Funi just couldn't get them anyway. Toei are selfish and want to make sure that they have the only dvds around that have everything. They purposely didn't give Funi the original episode previews. They pulled that same sort of stuff with Sailor Moon. So you can't blame Funi entirely.

FUNimation is likely only able to use whatever material were given to them in the first place. Thus, they're not at fault here.

And it's "could've", not "could of".

Well technically "could've" can be considered slang, so "could have" would be the most correct. ;)

You guys should check out your local Bestbuy store because they might have the Dead Zone DVD. I just got it today, but I haven't seen it yet. I'm not promising you that it'll be there, but check your local stores to get it early.

You could, but this dvd is not only not worth the $14.00 price tag, but because several things that cause this release to fail, it isn't worth owning if you're a fan of the movie in any way, shape, or form.

FUNimation really pulled one over on this release... not only is the dub bad [I don't suppose that is much of a surprise,] but the art, and packing [dvd case] is just plain bad... I just can't recommend this to anyone who likes this film, and or has another version of it [raw Japanese, or Pioneer release] it's just a waste of money any way you slice it.

Sure, it does have a Japanese track, but that in no way makes up for it's faults.

The Pioneer DVD has the Japanese track anyway, and while their translations are sketchy, it's not worth shelling out an extra 14 bucks.

Does the new release of the DBZ movie 1 DVD also have Spanish audio?

Nope, no Spanish audio or subtitles, what-so-ever.

After seeing the extras that Movie 10's dvd had gotten (a few lifeless profiles and some trailers), I'm pretty sure Dead Zone won't get much of anything considerably good like the first Ultimate Uncut did. And why in the hell does FUNi call this dvd an Ultimate Uncut release and say it'll contain never-before seen footage? They must mean they'll be including a preview for Movie 2, because if not then that is very much false advertising on their part, the Pioneer dvds had everything. The only flaw they had were the hanna-barbara SFXs for the dub, everything else was perfect IMO (in my opinon).

You should've seen them at Anime Boston. Sebastian, Julian, and I all saw them claim that Pioneer's DBZ movie releases didn't have the Japanese version and weren't "fully uncut".

I think Julian and I both had the same "bullshit" thought.

And FUNi didn't remove that shot with the fat blondy with the yaio shirt, and let "ass" go by twice in the feature, very surprising on their part to leave those alone, especially since one of those "ass"'s is from Chris Sabat.
