Is that what he was doing? I could've done a more convincing croak..., but at least he wasn't saying "ribbit"; it always annoys me when frogs that are obviously not tree frogs ribbit.

Heh heh, yeah, I also find myself expecting those unforgettable old dub lines, and being surprised (in a good way) that they're not there any more. No "Mondo cool"? No "great galaxies"? And, most regrettably of all, no "Don't piss off the God of Love!" (well, I guess we'll find out next Wednesday on that one, but I'd say it's extremely unlikely, though I'd laugh my ass off if they kept that).

I'm liking Sabat's calm asshole Vegeta. Can't wait to see him go back to super pissed Vegeta in the next episode (those rumors that they're going to use 'shit' in the uncut dub, I'm sure that has to come from Vegeta at some point. He gets super pissed A LOT during his stay on Namek).

Krillin's line about the armor feeling like he wasn't wearing anything reminded me of The Simpsons:

Krillin: Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all...nothing at all...nothing at all!
Vegeta: Stupid sexy Krillin!

So did they finally translate the bit about the armor correctly? As in, state that it's Vegeta's armor that's the old design, not Kuririn and Gohan's?

Yep Vegeta did say that.

There's a one word line I'm eager to hear Ayres perform. It's probably Ryusei Nakao's most calm, yet creepy line delivery as Freeza:
"Bang."
A Dragon Ball/Urusei Yatsura crossover would be awesome.
Having Toshio Furukawa balance between Piccolo and Ataru would be hilarious.

I somehow get the feeling that I'd probably like this new Frieza voice more if I actually gave a crap about his Japanese voice and how close the English voice should sound to it. Eh, oh well. it's not like I'm obligated to like it either way. I'll just continue liking what I like and be on my way. In the end, I;m already happy with the Z Dub, in spite of it's various flaws at this point of the story, so this Z Kai stuff really is useless to me.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!

I'm loving Z Kai. Z Kai is my replacement for an English continuation of the Dragon Ball anime. If only it had Kukichi's score, then it would be perfect... But I also really love the Kai music so it's not a HUGE loss.

I also miss some filler, but I'll always have the Dragon Boxes.

Not liking Schemmel's Goku is not an attack against him. And it's not like Schemmel's the most "attacked" FUNi voice actor; Sabat gets plenty of criticism for his work in DBZ, so stop pretending like it's everyone against Schemmel.
Agreed. It's just one or two people continuously saying stuff about Sean Schemmel.

Hey, yeah. I totally remember that from season 3. Did FUNi think frogs actually say "ribbet"?

If anything, that was likely done to keep in line with the Japanese version, in which the Ginyu-frog hops around saying, "Gero-gero."

So while it may be stupid in both versions, you're hating on one of their few accurate adaptations from the old days. :?

Still, the FUNimation dub (or dubs in general, for that matter) correcting mistakes/inaccuracies that were present in the original is a good thing.

Oh cry us a fucking river. I'm sick of this "I prefer the Z dub so I'm going to keep reminding you all" bullshit.
And Innagadadavida, you're right, the Z Kai dub is a great watch. Not been this excited about Dragon Ball in a while, even Kai's original airing did nothing for me (I find the voice acting to be worse this time around), but this really gets me excited to watch me some Kai!

If you don't appreciate either Nakao or Ayres's performances as Freeza, can you honestly say that you "know" the character that is Freeza? Because the Freeza in the DBZ dub is a heavily corrupted form of Freeza. This is an objective fact. The dialogue, the delivery, the mannerisms, etc. are all inaccurate to the original character (from the Japanese anime, or even, I would argue, from the original manga). Obviously you're free to like whatever you want to like, but you shouldn't act so puzzled when you see people praising Ayres's Freeza for being a more accurate portrayal of the character.

And really, if you only like the Dragon Ball Z English dub (unless you also read the manga?), you only like an inaccurate version of the Dragon Ball story. Hell, I'd say that people that only watch the Japanese Z anime like a pretty inaccurate version of the story too (but they've got the accurate script, at least). In my opinion, Japanese Kai is superior to Japanese Z, because the show pretty much matches Toriyama's manga (with only a hint of filler left in). Therefore, English Kai is better than English Z, because of it's heavily faithful script, in addition to the fact that Kai in general is a more accurate animated version of Dragon Ball.

Anyway, yeah, go like what you like. Just understand where people are coming from when they praise this FUNimation dub while calling the old one garbage. I'm super sleepy though, so this post maybe made no sense...?

The most recent one.

Also, Nicktoons has changed their Dragon Ball Z Kai page's layout a bit, and removed the "next weeks preview" segment...

Because he feels Young gave a better performance than Nakao.

Again, I don't see how Nakao plays into how well Chris Ayres can act. I'm trying to avoid making opinionated claims here so I can get a straight answer, but... Ayres is doing a bang-up job whether or not he's "imitating" Nakao. The kids watching Kai on Nicktoons (probably)don't know it's Japanese or what Nakao sounds like.

I'm guessing because he doesn't like the way Frieza is portrayed in the Japanese versions, so I'm think that to him, Ayres playing Frieza the same way is a step down in his eyes.
