GT in the UK
I watched the last episodes of Dragonball GT, the Funi dub, It has different BGM than the Japanese version and when the episode title appears it is similar to the DBZ Funimation dub.
Watching a GT episode from an earlier season on TV the other day (a Dr. Myuu episode) it had the same BGM as the Japanese version, and the opening is a translated version of Dan Dan. Also, the episode title is in yellow bold writing and looks nothing like the other episode did.
I live in the England, I'm wondering if the GT we get is different from the one America gets. We get the Japanese BGM but maybe all the early GT episodes do, since I haven't seen the Funi versions of these early GT episodes (or maybe they were, and Funi used the original BGM).
Is this change of BGM only for the last season of GT, or do all the episodes have different BGM from the Japanese version, and it's just that we get another version in England?

Pan's voice is annoying, the rest I can stand. Goku's is like the easy voice to do so he sounds ok anyway.Caracal wrote:Blue Water used the original music and wasn't to bad on censorship, but 90% of the voices were annoying.
I noticed they wern't all that on censorship when pan hid the spaceship key under her top (was it a key?) when Trunks stried to get it. Maybe that something Funi wouldn't show. Or maybe they would? I haven't seen the Funimation dubs really.

If FUNi can show a deer trying to nursing itself on Pan's..... equipment on cartoon network, I don't see the problem with the humor concept regaurding the ship key. Come to think, they didn't cut that out when it aired. I do know that while the Blue Water version stays as accurate and uncut as possible, Mr. Satan is still going by Her-cule and they cut out a shot of the Satan Dojo in episode 2, and instead of refering to teleportation as "Instantanious Movement" or even "Instant Transmission", they made up their own mistranslation: "Instant Translocation".
Also, it was a big mistake on Ocean's part to recast for their dub of GT with everyone but Kaio. Anyone know if Scot Mcneial still VAed Piccolo?

Throw in Blue Water's script accuracy, keeping the original BGM, and trnanslated versions of the opening/endings and combine them with the original Ocean cast and FUNi's video quality, stereo remastering, and next-EP previews, and you have a grade-A perfect dub of GT that I could even prefer over the original Japanese version.

I to felt that Adult/SSj4 Goku had the best voice in the lot. As for other cast, truth be told, bar Pan I can't really remember them, mainly because they had such a small role in the series. Now that I think about it, Gohan, Trunks, Goten and possibly Piccolo had OK voices. But I think I remembered Chi-Chi, Vegeta, Bulma and Majin Buu having bad voices.Bejiita wrote:Pan's voice is annoying, the rest I can stand. I think I heard maybe one Ocean voice in the GT dub, but it may have been someone who sounded like the Ocean VA (I can't even remember which character it was).Sun_Wukong wrote:I'm pretty sure its mostly an all new cast.
Heck, if that combination re-dubbed all of the Dragon Ball trilogy you'd have a perfectly dubbed anime series.Conan the SSJ wrote:Throw in Blue Water's script accuracy, keeping the original BGM, and trnanslated versions of the opening/endings and combine them with the original Ocean cast and FUNi's video quality, stereo remastering, and next-EP previews, and you have a grade-A perfect dub of GT that I could even prefer over the original Japanese version.
Instant Translocation was used in Ocean's Dragon Ball Z dub, so Blue Water was simply maintaining continuity.Conan the SSJ wrote:Instead of refering to teleportation as "Instantanious Movement" or even "Instant Transmission", they made up their own mistranslation: "Instant Translocation".
Ocean didn't recast for Blue Water GT dub. Ocean was screwed out of dubbing Dragon Ball GT and as well Dragon Ball. An idiot by the name of Ken Morrison decided to be a cheap skate, and shipped the dubbing duties of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT to Blue Water in Calgary just so that he didn't have to pay the higher price of the Ocean cast.Conan the SSJ wrote:Also, it was a big mistake on Ocean's part to recast for their dub of GT with everyone but Kaio. Scott McNeil didn't voice Piccolo in the Blue Water GT dub. The Blue Water GT dub has an entirely new cast, nobody from the Ocean Group reprised their previous roles.

I haven't yet heard SSJ4 Goku in the Blue Water dub, but Trunks sounds too much like an adult.
And yea, keeping the GT BGM is what should have been done for Z, but the music had been changed, you see, when there's silence, it means everyone in the room shut up, something about the plot is being said, but where Funi add dumb melodies in these parts it's like, come on, next scene, but when a BG track comes in(in the BW or the Jap version) it means something is going to happen, i.e, a fight, a sad scene, or anything.
The scene where Goku is on he's way to Namek and King Kai contacts him and tells him about the 4 people who made it to his planet, it's a touching scene, people are more important when I watch the Japanese version for some reason. When Yamcha died (in the Saiyan Saga dub) I was like, alright, it was bound to happen...whatever, but in the Japanese version it's quite sad to see him go, with Bulma crying and everything and the sad music.
It's like, would Titanic be as sad if on the part where the ship is sinking and the musicians play that sad song if the song was some silly happy tune, it wouldn't, so the GBM plays a big part in DBZ.

I find it kind of strange that Goten and Uub's Blue Water voices sound very similar to their FUNi counter-parts. Using the original Ocean cast would definitly be 100%perfect for DBZ/GT, however I'd still prefer John Burgmierer's Tenshinhan, Sean Schemmel's SSJ4 Goku, and Kyle Hebert's Gohan over the Blue Water and Ocean VAs.

Well, on the real Titanic, the band did play ragtime and happy music pretty much right up until the end.Bejiita wrote:It's like, would Titanic be as sad if on the part where the ship is sinking and the musicians play that sad song if the song was some silly happy tune, it wouldn't, so the GBM plays a big part in DBZ.
And then some. I thought the captain was supposed to go down with the ship, not the band.Rocketman wrote:Well, on the real Titanic, the band did play ragtime and happy music pretty much right up until the end.Bejiita wrote:It's like, would Titanic be as sad if on the part where the ship is sinking and the musicians play that sad song if the song was some silly happy tune, it wouldn't, so the GBM plays a big part in DBZ.

Yeah, it is only 1 of the 2 character voices in the entire dub that Blue Water almost duplicated in quality of the Ocean version. King Fai/Kaio, which ever is one of the almost exact imitation of an Ocean voice character, the other almost exact ocean imittation by Blue Water was Fat Buu's voice. Both almost completely imitate their Ocean counter parts, but both have acting flaws that are easy to stop and you will really hear the differences between the Ocean voice and Blue Water voice.Conan the SSJ wrote:Eh, I don't know, Kaio's sounds very much like Dave Ward's Kaio, just about exactly the same I'd say.
