But yup, I'm too attached to it, obviously - it couldn't POSSIBLY be me just thinking for myself.
Well, when the only people complaining about the new voices are fans of the old dub, what are we supposed to think...?

When you say Chris Ayres has poor acting abilities, but you don't think that most of the Z dub is terribly forced... no offense, but I think you have poor taste. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, sure, but I'll always call them out on the bad ones. (For instance, everyone that liked Transformers 2... I liked the first movie well enough, but the sequel was a mess. To me, those people have poor taste in movies. And that's my opinion.)

...I never said that Chris Ayres has bad acting abilities. I said he doesn't sound all that good when he's angry. I praised his regular talking scenes.

I seem to recall differently. Either that, or Monica Rial as Bulma. Either way, I still stand by what I said about the Z dub.

Or having Vegeta get hit by the spirit bomb and Gohan turning into an ape and crushing Vegeta at the end in the same episode. Ugh. And it's been so long since I've watched Kai, I forgot how much Bulma and Gohan's voices suck. Oh well, it was only 30 bucks, who gives a shit.
Y'know... people wouldn't call nostalgia bullshit on you so often if it wasn't for the coincidence that the only voices you seem to criticize are just the new ones.
I completely agree. To everyone else, it just seems that you're too attached to the voices you know from the DBZ dub. Especially when you say that the acting of the new voice actors is poor. If you're one to criticise bad acting, how can you even watch the DBZ dub...?

(Also, the replacement voices are all three seasoned anime voice actors, very popular with fans. The old voice actors barely found work outside of DBZ. In fact, aside from Linda Young in Yu Yu Hakusho, I don't remember them in any other anime. Probably because they couldn't act!)
<_< You do realize that Sabat (Vegeta/Piccolo/Etc) voiced Kuwabara and John Burgmeier (Tenshinhan) voiced Kurama? Justin Cook (Yusuke) also later went to voice Raditz in the redub. That's just in your example alone. I will admit that several of the VAs never ended up being in much of anything, but a decent amount of the main cast went on to other anime.

Schemmel did Berserk, Shaman King, Blue Gender, Yu Yu Hakusho (Surprise?), Yu-Gi-Oh! (roles in the original, GX, and 5Ds), and directed Berserk, Ah, My Goddess!, and Samurai Deeper Kyo (there were other roles, but I'm not as well versed in the other anime).

Chris Ayres, the more I hear his work as Freeza, shows himself as the perfect voice choice. He's portrayed the proper and polite Freeza well, next to the building rage as his goal is constantly being foiled. I just hope he can pull of Freeza's other forms and his anger at how far he's pushed from the Saiyans/Piccolo.

And even the first Transformers movie wasn't that good, but I digress.

We're nearing up on the fight with Freeza. Is there any scene you're looking forward to in the redub? Personally, I'm looking forward to the Goku vs Freeza fight. Specifically post-SSJ, but really, this is what I've been waiting for. It's something I've wanted to be redubbed for a while now. Season Three's area needed it, but I've specifically wanted to see this scene in English with the right script. No more Hope of the Universe/Creature of the Night stuff (<_<), no Vegeta being forced to be a douche, just Legends and Pride.

I haven't been this excited since I read Jack Kirby's Fourth World for the first time (Kirby's art is awesome, and I loved seeing Darkseid in his original stories). As a kid, I enjoyed the fight. I first saw it edited dub, then uncut dub, then I read it in the manga, then I saw it uncut in Japanese. Now, all I need is accurate script dub, and I'll be satisfied. So, as long as we don't get Season Three Goku dialog added in, the script doesn't explode in horribleness, and the actors don't forget how to act, I will be happy with it.

I believe Chibi Mystic Gohan was only talking about the actors who were replaced for Kai (Tiffany Vollmer, Stephanie Nadolny, and Linda Young). And other than Young as Genkai, and Nadolny singing the second dub ending of YYH, I don't know of any other dubbing work they've done outside of Dragon Ball.

Oh, my mistake. Sorry. And they all did some voice roles in Detective Conan's dub (and I believe Nadolny did one of DC's dubbed themes). I think they all just had differing levels of falling out from Funi/voice acting.

Corlett was too stiff-sounding. I mean, really, he made Goku sound like such a basic action cartoon lead. I've seen the TV version of movie 3, and Kelamis totally blows him out of the water. Even Schemmel gives Goku a little more personality than Corlett.

Corlett was better as Bob in Seasons 3 and 4 of Reboot, in my opinion. He did, to a decent degree, try to action hero up the role. Then again, that might have just been the original direction.

It's like I said in the comparisons to Batman and Superman in the media, getting many interpretations doesn't mean it's bad if it differs from the original somewhat. There's a range where differing voices/actors can fit. If Goku were to go a bit too much higher than Nozawa, people might laugh. Though, Corlett's voice didn't have that problem, it had it's own little problems (the script didn't help things).

So, Kai continues in early October, right? Too long for my tastes.

But my entire point was that nostalgia plays a huge role in it. Perhaps Ian James Corlett was a terrible Goku, perhaps the worst in existence (although there is that super deep-voiced "Big Green" dub one), but because that's who I was exposed to as a kid and have memories of, I associate him with Goku, and therefore to me he's the greatest.

Sometimes guys take breaks or go onto other things. Had Ms. Vollmer on myspace and her page said she was mainly involved in theater. Ms. Young was also on FMA: Brotherhood and My Bride is a Mermaid. Heck, seasons 1-2 Bulma stopped to have a family and wasn't in much in between season 2 of DBZ (wasn't in the later Ocean eps) and Gundam Seed Destiny. Didn't really watch that series so don't know how she sounded, but read she played someone named Stella or something who was a murderer, so I'm guessing she was a bad guy.

Stella Loussier was the token crazy chick for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. She was a love interest of sorts for the lead character, Shinn Asuka. She piloted the Gaia and Destroy Gundams...before Kira kills 'er. :|

Just want to make sure there's no misinformation floating around. :p

Ah yes, the Kai dub...well, just one more month until we hear second form Freeza. I hope it isn't bad...

Video time!

I put the three Funimation versions of 'Dragon Soul' together.
Unlike the other videos, the singers switch-off every stanza, instead of every other line.
(It's called a "stanza", right?)

Is this even the right place to link this? I'm hesitant.

Kelamis as Goku in movie 2.
When I think Kelamis, I think this. Easily his best scene.

That's a really good version, but I'm just a tad disappointed :( I've started to really like Vic Mignogna's rendition of it, and think that when he goes into the "Don't stop! Don't stop!" line, that it's the best sounding of all three but it didn't make your cut. Damn it! Good video anyway :D

Yeah, he kind of got the smallest part.
When the fourth singer's version comes out, I'll probably make another take and give Mignogna more lines.

I have a feeling that Chris Ayres is going to have some really cool variations on his Freeza voice for all of his different forms. I'm excited to hear them all because Chris is the first dub Freeza I've actually legitimately liked without question. I know that, if I'm right, we're in for a real treat.

That sounds pretty fucking awesome, I didn't like Schemmels that much or Cooks at all, but when they switch it just makes it seem better.

Did you use the Part 2 DVD for all three versions or YouTube videos, because Mignogna's doesn't sound good enough quality on there.
