Dragonbox Volume 2
Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
I managed to get myself a used copy of Dragon Boxes Vol. 1 and 2 each over at MovieStop this past weekend. Cost me around $58 total, but well worth it (Vol. 1 being $20 and Vol. 2 being $35 plus tax). Both came complete (cases, discs and books) and were in perfect condition. Didn't even have the issue most people had with the first volume with the crappy glue job on the case's bottom.
As I was going through the first disc of Volume 2, I let the US credits run and noted a couple of oddities and was wondering if anyone could shine some light on this for me. Freeza is listed in the credits twice, voiced by Linda Young first and then much later listed again as being voiced by Chris Sabat. Also, Blueberry and Raspberry are also listed twice as having two different English voice actors. They seem to be the only three characters listed twice in the credits. What's up with that?

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
I believe the Chris Sabat listing is from a flashback/Flashforward or something
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
When did he voice Freeza, though? I thought it was always Linda Young doing his voice in the dub prior to Kai, voice modified and all for the transformation?

Agreed.Cipher wrote:Not sure why you would want that either way. Not trying to be a selfish prick, I just love having such a limited item. Guess that wasn't the case here. *Laughs at people who said "Buy them all when you get the chance, so you can sell them for a lot later, now that they are out of print!"*
I've been buying a second copy of the Dragon Boxes due to the copies I've received from ordering online being delivered in less than perfect condition. As I doubt dissatisfaction with the packaging is grounds for a return, I simply find the most "perfect" copy in the stores (it is, after all, the Dragon Box) and pick it up. Those I keep sealed, since I don't need two opened copies when the discs themselves are fine.
Thankfully I haven't had a repeat of the horror I experience with a Direct to Consumer title where one of the DVDs snapped in half when I tried to remove it from its tray. Thankfully, the company provided me with a replacement disc in short order.

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
I'm not surprised that anime in general, especially with the massive piracy isn't doing so hot right now.
But if they cancel the Dragon Boxes, I swear I'll buy shoeboxes, yellow paper, silver pressed discs and release them myself.
Well, there's also the whole "rights" issue too...

*Breathes a sigh of relief.*
I only have the first box right now.
But why did the prices go back up?
I thought Amazon was supposed to be cheaper than brick and mortar stores.

Amazon's prices fluctuate a lot, but for the Dragon Boxes, that's a pretty normal price. Dragon Box 3 is currently about the same ($52.49).

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
In any event, FUNimation really shot themselves in the foot with their release of Dragon Ball material over the past year. With the announcement of Dragon Box Z prior to the release of the first Dragon Ball season set, many would-be consumers are now holding out for a Dragon Box release for that material and, with the licensing and release of Kai, they're competing with the Dragon Box, which is likely to siphon off sales as well.
Unless I see a FUNimation representative state the Dragon Boxes are discontinued, I'm disinclined to put any stock into what any "anonymous" source of a member on FUNimation's forum has to say on the matter. The credibility of such a source can only be measured by the credibility of the member who posted the info.
If the Dragon Boxes are selling as poorly as we're being led to believe, then it makes Dragon Boxes for Dragon Ball and GT less likely.

That's pretty much how I feel about the matter. I don't know who this person on the FUNi boards is, so I have no reason to believe they're a credible person with industry sources. Maybe it will turn out they are, but I just don't blindly trust the words of complete strangers. And while I'm not a marketing expert, I don't understand why such a thing would be sensitive information in the first place. What would FUNimation or retailers have to gain from not telling their customers that items have been discontinued?OutlawTorn wrote:Unless I see a FUNimation representative state the Dragon Boxes are discontinued, I'm disinclined to put any stock into what any "anonymous" source of a member on FUNimation's forum has to say on the matter. What I do know is that FUNimation insisted the Dragon Box sales were fine at the summer conventions. They also gave an "early 2011" release date for Dragon Box 5 recently. So I'm still confident that they'll at least finish the series.
FUNimation is supposed to have a panel at NYCC/NYAF this weekend. If anyone in the New York City area wants to attend and try to ask FUNi about the Dragon Boxes, that would be swell. Since they don't seem to be giving many answers online.

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
I'll probably be at NYCC on Sunday. I'll poke around to see but no promises since I don't even know who or what will be where. I think this is all worrying about nothing. I think we can be confident that we'll see at least all of Z released. They probably just overproduced the second box so that's why it's been discontinued. The first box probably sold a lot as first boxes in a set tend to. They probably produced a lot of copies of the second box based on the sales figures of the first box but by that time the sales probably settled.
Besides, no matter what none of these boxes will be genuinely rare. Considering how many FUNi produced there will always be at least a few copies on Ebay. So relax. These things aren't going anywhere.

This guy is like, "There's no demand for the boxes. They've been discontinued LOL! Kai is selling more!" but I'm seeing DBox 1, 2, and 4 sell more than any Kai release on Amazon. Something seems fishy.TripleRach wrote:That's pretty much how I feel about the matter. It only vanished from a couple of places. A shopping search on Google for DBox 2 will show you several places to buy it new.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Why is only box 2 like vanishing.. somethings odd.

I'll be at the NYCC tomorrow, and I will try to talk with a FUNi representative and see what the schpeal is. If not, I'll be buying stuff and getting all the swag I can get.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

FUNimation said to me:
"Josh, Thank you for your email and interest in FUNimation. Dragon Boxes are limited releases, and production did cease at a certain point. However, fairly soon, more inventory will become available so major retailers will receive more stock. My advice is to keep checking Amazon or RightStuf on a regular basis."

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
That's so contradictory!
They basically just said they're limited and ceased production but hey, be on the look out for more!
