Well, $40 for a set that has 20% more footage isn't really a good idea...But I still want it.

That's still less than a dollar per episode. How is that not a good deal?

[oldmanspeak]Back in my day we paid $25 for three episodes! And had to shovel snow backwards in the pouring rain with dogs biting our asses![/oldmanspeak]

If it isn't a good idea, don't do it. Pretty simple.

I'm still a fan, I buy a lot of stupid things that aren't worth it sometimes.

I'm still a fan and I don't do that. That's what I mean by not buying everything that says Dragonball on it. It's just a waste of money that you could spend on things that aren't a bad idea to spend money on.

What about the people that have the entire series 4-5 times over? That's pretty much a waist of money.

Well, duh. But a lot of us skipped out on previous releases waiting for the right one to come along. I'm one of them. That, or this is the perfect release for a lot of people so they're buying it once more before being done with it forever.

What matters is if it's a good idea for you. That decision is only your business until you bring it up in open discussion. Everyone else has made their choice to get the DBox or not. It wasn't difficult either way. Point is, it's not a decision to be made based off of others people's buying habits. It's your decision.

Do you know how mad fans would be if FUNi made them limited, Their sales would decrease greatly.

Don't remind me. When I think about the kind of money I spent for 3 episode VHS tapes of various anime back in the 90s I cringe. Particularly because I was pretty young at the time and didn't have a whole lot of disposable income. Granted, that was perfectly normal at the time. But it just goes to show how good we have it now.

That's actually why I never could actually own anime when i was younger. I just didn't have 30 dollars to spend on 3 episodes XD.

Now that I'm in my early 20s and I make good money, there's no real argument for watching shows online or anything.

I've been paying about $35 dollars per dragon box. That's less than a dollar an episode + the dragon books + fancy packaging. I feel people have NO RIGHT to complain from a value stand point.

I don't see why. If people don't have and want the Dragon Box they will buy the Dragon Box. Being limited would just have people intending to get them as soon as possible so they don't miss out.

I know it's more of an apples to oranges thing, but it's the only comparison I can think of at the moment, but it's like when a Disney movie is released on DVD/Blu-ray, it's available for a little while and then disappears for about seven to ten years. While Disney specifically markets them as a limited release and encourages consumers to pick them up before they are put back into the vault, the situation with FUNimation and the Dragon Boxes aren't really all that outrageous.

Unlike when Disney movies go back into the vault, the Dragon Boxes won't disappear after a particular date. they'll disappear as stock is depleted. With multiple releases of Fullmetal Alchemist. it's still possible to find product from the various releases on shelves, even the out-of-print singles. We knew from the start that the Dragon Boxes were being marketed towards the "hardcore fans" and, like it or not, the exclusion of the Faulconer score has driven potential consumers away.

So, eventually, the Dragon Boxes will disappear from the shelves and, most likely, FUNimation will want to get their monies worth out of the Dragon Box masters and, just like they have done with Full Metal Alchemist and DBZ as well, they will make another release in cheaper packaging without all of the extras, similar to how the Rurouni Kenshin premium sets were released as economy sets with simpler packaging.

Trying to punish FUNimation by not buying future Dragon Box sets would just decrease the possibility of receiving Dragon Box versions of Dragon Ball and GT, not to mention the movies. They are a business, after all; and if the DBZ Dragon Boxes prove they cannot recoup the costs of their investment, that speaks a whole lot louder than fans petitioning for those Dragon Boxes to be released.

My local MovieStop had Box 2 for $38, so I know I'm going to be picking it up with my Christmas money if it's still there that is.

Ok, here's my plan. I'm getting DragonBox 2 & 3 on eBay, and Box 1 & 4, I'll get my parents to buy them for me.

Damn! I just heard the bad news that these sets will be limited. After years of hoping to see them hit shelves in North America they have to be limited and very costly. Since they cost so much I have not been able to pick up any of the copies so far and now it seems I have no choice if I want the Dragonboxes.

In a way I can understand why Funimation is making the Dragonboxes "limited" as they have been treated as a collector's item and something only a minority of Dragonball fans over here would care to want. Now despite the fact that these sets are the only decent non-Kai versions of the series officially retailed here in North America, at the same time it does not seem to matter as the "Orange Brick" releases have sold well. Guess I will have to use what little money I have saved up to buy these babies before they disappear. :|
