Also, he dubbed for Jack Nicholson as the Joker, apparently. That's awesome in so many ways. I need to find a way to get that dub, seriously.
Anyway, what part of Saiyan Blood plays when Vegeta powers up? Lyrics wise, I mean.

It's a truncated version of the song with the first verse and chorus.
Same with Super Dragon Soul at the end of the next episode.

I take back what I said earlier--Chris Ayers shouldn't sing the English version of the song, Jack Nicholson should.SuperSaiyanBatman wrote:Also, he dubbed for Jack Nicholson as the Joker, apparently. That's awesome in so many ways. I need to find a way to get that dub, seriously.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Funimation could probably get him now.

No they couldn't. Jack NICHOLSON? No way. Maybe they could, but even if they did there's no way it would be cost-effective.penguintruth wrote:Funimation could probably get him now.

I'm going to go under the assumption that they kept it Japanese for an atmospheric thing (fake Latin sounding bit), or that they were rushed. I can't believe they'd skip any more songs. I'd be disappointed if we don't get Sabat singing Saiyan Blood in character, lol.

People make fun of me in real life all the time for taking things too literally...so that's entirely possible.

Another possibility is that the song was left in Japanese for the TV broadcast as a sort of censorship -- the song lyrics talk about Hell, so maybe instead of doing a "Y7 dub" of the song, they just decided to leave it in Japanese for the TV broadcast.

Just caught up on a coupled of episodes. Hearing the new voices of Freeza, and even Gohan, makes me really curious as to who they might have cast for some of the other characters (Goku, Vegeta) if they could start over.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
This was my guess when I watched last night, though I was shocked nonetheless. I figured the chanting was left untranslated previously because ominous chanting just sounds better in a foreign language and wouldn't sound as effective if dubbed...but hearing the main vocals still in Japanese felt very odd to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the uncut DVD of the first however many episodes out before the Nicktoons airings began? I don't know if the previous insert song was on that DVD or not, but it couldn't have been terribly long after it, so the episode was probably dubbed and ready by the time it aired on Nicktoons. Sounds like they've caught up now and have been rushing them out the door, so they probably just didn't have time to focus on the songs yet, since they're not as important as the scripting and voice acting, and possibly take more time to dub and write English lyrics for.Ishtar318 wrote:Well, it could simply be that FUNimation didn't have enough time to dub "Chilling Elegy" before giving the masters to Nicktoons. It could very well be dubbed on the DVD. Guess we'll have to see if "Saiyan Blood" and "Cho-Super Dragon Soul" are dubbed next week, to help confirm or deny that theory.Puto wrote:So. Episode 40's on Nicktoons' website, and Uristhegreat says they left "Chilling Elegy" in Japanese. So I guess now this leads to the question: Are Saiyan Blood and Chô-Super Dragon Soul gonna get dubbed?
I wouldn't be surprised if Saiyan Blood and Super Dragon Soul remain in Japanese as well. But I'll laugh my ass off, because Saiyan Blood uses the correct pronunciation rather than FUNi's. Also, hearing all the Engrish on Nicktoons will amuse me.

I'm going with the English song not meeting the ratings requirements for the Nicktoons dub. It's harder to word swap a song. If they're singing about Hell, it might just have went to DVD. I fully expect the other songs though. We'll see next Wednesday.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:This was my guess when I watched last night, though I was shocked nonetheless. That's...possible, I guess, but I wouldn't count on it. They could have easily re-written the line to make it more TV-friendly. I mean, I'll bet you a hundred bucks that Freeza's line, "Didn't I promise to show you a terror beyond your worst nightmares?" was a TV-safe alternate line for the uncut line, which I assume will be, "Didn't I promise to show you a terror worse than hell?"Mewzard wrote:I'm going with the English song not meeting the ratings requirements for the Nicktoons dub. You don't understand. Altering dialog isn't a challenge. Altering lyrics in a song while keeping the flow is. And they could of been forced to either alter the song's meaning or not translate it.TheBlackPaladin wrote:That's...possible, I guess, but I wouldn't count on it. Yeah, that does have some merit. After all, when you're translating dialogue, it just has to roughly match the lip flaps and be a faithful translation. When you're translating a song, I guess you have to make sure the that the new lyrics fit the rhythm exactly, that they are a faithful translation, AND that they rhyme. Damn, that's gotta be hard.Mewzard wrote:You don't understand. Altering dialog isn't a challenge. Altering lyrics in a song while keeping the flow is. Could be a licensing issue too. Isn't the Freeza song by an established artist?
And as far as the other one. Chanting just sounds hokey in English. Sure, Dragon Ball is kind of silly, but when some fool's getting stabbed in the chest with a horn, you wanna be real careful what message the music is sending.
