I really dislike a lot of things about the ending of Z after the ten year time skip:
- The way Gohan ended up. In the Buu saga he showed he liked to fight. Even if he didn't train during the 7 year time skip, he was eager to battle Dabura and Buu. I don't see why he wouldn't both train and become a scholar. A disgrace to his character IMO.
- The way everyone looks. I know they age but why does almost every female have short hair? Goten's hair sucks, Gohan's new look with the novelty glasses is awful.
- Uub, didn't care about him at all.
- When Goku left his family to train Uub.

Basically the whole ending after the time skip is my most hated moment

I also don't like how Goku says he belongs to Other World in this (nice) scene, yet a few episodes later he comes back anyway. Bit of a pisstake.

How is it a disgrace for a peaceful little kid to stop fighting after he beat Cell? The manga keeps telling us all about how Gohan wants to be a scholar and was super reluctant to even fight someone as evil as Cell. Gohan does not want to fight or train anymore! After all he's been through fighting freaking universal tyrants which no kid should have to do, its no surprise. Plus it's not like he sat on his ass eating cheetos. I think Vegeta said he did train but "not nearly enough", and did he not regain most of his lost strength by training with Goten and later the Z Sword anyway?

Wait when did he show he liked to fight? You mean wanting his turn to fight Dabura? That's just being fair to his father and Vegeta. And he only got cocky vs Buu because of that new Mystic power.

Yeah, Gohan had a ridiculously abnormal childhood and he was never into fighting the way Goku was, so I think it made perfect sense for him to be not nearly as active in it after beating Cell.

In the manga, Vegeta never mentioned that he didn't train. He just said that he was out of shape, and you should never slack off at times of peace. I guess that means Gohan outright didn't train. And even after training with Goten, Goku says he's been slacking off and Vegeta says he was stronger when he was a kid. As for after the Z-Sword training, it is plausible that he recovered back that lost strength.

I do agree with you that Gohan shouldn't be expected to be obsessed with training and battle 24/7 like the Saiyans. He's never been a fighter at heart, and has only ever fought because he had to. Piccolo forced him to train for the Saiyans, he trained with Kuririn in case Vegeta came back to Earth and he trained with Goku and Piccolo for the Androids (and later, in the ROSAT, for Cell). And besides, why do I never see people complaining about Yamcha and Kuririn not training? It's strongly implied that Kuririn, who should get more stick for slacking off and has been a martial artist for years, had stopped training because he'd shaved his head, a strict martial arts discipline he had upheld up until then. And suddenly, because Gohan has this random hidden power, he should be forced to do something he doesn't want to and not lead a normal life, just because all his life he's been surrounded by battle-hungry socially-inept martial artists? Give me a break. I'm actually glad there was someone in the series who was strong but also had ambitions in life other than "Grr, get stronger, push my limits, grr!"

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Buu Saga Gohan was easily my favorite character, but post-Buu Gohan was just dull. And IMO it would've made more sense if he balanced a bit between training and being a scholar, instead of being a fulltime scholar. He seemed to like to fight in the Buu Saga, or atleast wasn't as reluctant as before. However that he stops training doesn't bother me nearly as much as the change in artdesign after the ten year skip, where every character looks worse than before.

From greatest character in Z

blegh. The art in Dragonball is one if its appeals. The worse character designs after the ten year skip, and the whole Uub thing makes the ending of Z my top disliked moment.

edit: Ussj Future Trunks I wasn't talking about that he stopped training after the Cell Saga, but after the post-Buu ten year timeskip.

I'd argue with you on whether or not he balanced training and his teaching job. We're not shown he's completely abandoned the aspect of fighting altogether, just that he's a much more mature family man than Goku ever was. I find it odd that he'd live out in the middle of no where next door to his parents where Goku trains every day instead of living in the city closer to where he works. I always assumed he DID train whenever he had time as the Buu Saga would have been an important lesson on why him and his family & friends training was important.
