The spirit bomb music in the Z dub was much better.

I was thinking the exact same thing the whole time I was watching
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

While the Spirit Bomb theme is one of Funimation's better themes, the Kai musical piece is better and more fitting for Goku gathering energy. The Kai theme is ambient and well arranged. It musically captures the mood of the situation better.

It depends on which "Spirit Bomb music" you're talking about. Kikuchi used a few tracks during Goku's gathering of energy, the most notable being the same music used when Goku did the 30x Kaioken (a favorite piece of mine). But earlier, when they show ki being gathered from different places, the music was nothing special.

But I like the Kai "God's Bolero" piece better for the point it was used.

I have to admit that the music used in the Faulconer OST was decent, for Faulconer, but I much prefer the aforementioned pieces.

30x Kaiouken? I'm assuming you mean "3x" or else I'm wondering why Gokuu was sweating at the thought of using 20x just an episode ago.

Uh... no? How exactly did you reach that conclusion? Perhaps you should read my post once more, I was just playing devil's advocate, basically.

Jeez, why does everybody get so freakin' defensive when there's dub talk going on?

I meant when Goku was using the 20x Kaioken. In Z, the music used was a favorite of mine. The same music was used after Goku buried Vegeta.

Did that music piece first appear, when Goku buried Vegeta? Because I seem to recall it was used before that..
Never the less, it is one of my favorite heroic themes!!
EDIT: It's this piece you are referring to right?

That's it. I love that piece. Pretty sure it's from the third movie.

Ah, the famous "Dun-dun-dun" theme. Hell yeah it was in movie three! When Goku forms his Genki-Dama. Fuckin' loved that scene.

Man, I don't know how you guys do it. When I watch Kai on TV, I almost never think about which version did which better. I just see it and accept that this is how Kai does it. I mean, the way I see it is that this doesn't detract from anything else. I don't see the point in measuring up each and every little detail.

I guess that's why I'm able to enjoy the show so much. :P

Wasn't that you boycotting DB movie one for using Colleen Clinkenbeard as Goku?

I don't get very comparative while watching the series, but I do sometimes give thought to the matter, especially lately, afterward. I find that way I can get the maximum enjoyment of an episode before I jump out to go have arguments.

I don't know what exactly you're referring to, or how the two are related... but if you're trying to point out some sort of hypocrisy here, I assure you that there is none.

I dunno, he's got a point. You seemed like you'd be pretty irate, to the point of not watching, if Nadolny was replaced as Child Goku.

Yeah, I really want Nadolny to retain her role as Goku. What does this have to do with what I said about watching and enjoying Dragon Ball Z Kai?

Well, maybe I'm a might bit overcritical, but when it seems to be that there's a clear difference in quality (especially in the comparison between the awful Z dub and competent Kai dub), I can't help but notice.

I'm enjoying the show, too.

Just out of curiousity, can anybody help me out? In episode 46 on Nicktoons, when Goku and Frieza are fighting around the 1:45 mark, Frieza says "filthy", then an incomprehensible word, then "imbecile". Any possible interpretations of that second word?

Okay, this is gonna be kind of long, sorry for that.

So I saw Sean Schemmel today at the very small 1st time Gobble-Con with a friend today. He was hosting a panel that went for about 2 hours, and he said it was the very first time he has done something like that. Overall I found it interesting, it gave some insight into the voice acting industry like how some of these hosted by voice actors get into...but it was fairly unique. He talked about some good philosophies on life and his approach to voice acting too. Oh, and he gave everyone his favorite Virgil Root Beer he received a keg of for his 42nd birthday (The 21st), that was pretty cool/tasty.

Anyway, he said in the first year of voicing Goku he made something like 3500 or so, and of course video games brought much better money. Sean also had to pay for his flights in the final years of finishing up the Z dub until he got Barry Watson (Whom he extremely disliked and had a funny impression of) to pay for it, and he had some other neat factoids like how one of the only times he got frustrated in the acting booth was when forcing him to pronounce Kamehameha as 'Kamaya-mehya'.

But the really interesting things involve Kai, both through things he said and through a couple questions I asked him. Like how nowadays in Texas there are no physical scripts and it is all digital on a big screen nowadays, and when doing the lines the uncut lines will be black and the Nicktoons ("Y-7") lines will be blue and they do them right after another. He also feels like roughly 20% of the time the script for the Y-7 lines are more accurate to the Japanese script, which is interesting. Oh, and he was the one that came up with the Motorola ring-tone bit.

Also in the case of the broadcast syndication script, he indeed did the re-dubbing right in New York for 5 or 6 episodes, until he mentioned how easy Chris Sabat's studio is to work with, and now they just redo the lines further in Texas when necessary. Sean also mentioned that he is a fan of correcting as you go and enjoyed being able to pronounce Kaio-ken correctly (And tripped up at first from being 'Brainwashed' otherwise) and mentioned he wanted to say 'I am Son Goku, a Super Saiyan' in the new Kai script but I don't think he said they will actually use that one.

I think that's about it in terms of relevant things...

I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.
