I take it we can post fan-dub versions now. This one is by far my favourite. It's also more creative than just doing a simple cover.

Done. The list has been updated to include this fandub and the explanation behind it. Thanks for the tip, Piccolo Daimaoh!Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I take it we can post fan-dub versions now. This one is by far my favourite. It's also more creative than just doing a simple cover.

Schemmel's version: sounds like a fandub (possibly do to the overuse of auto-tune).
Cook's version: sounds like a fandub.
Mignogna's version: sounds, just, bad.
I think FUNimation was purposely making them all the same quality of bad. I mean, they auto-tune Schemmel's version to death, and they have an amazing singer like Mignogna sing really crappy-like. :<

Re: Dragon Soul Collection Thread (To Be Updated As More App
Here's my stance on English dubs of anime songs.
1) Unless a Japanese anime song has very specific context within the story as being a song that is sung in Japanese, Japanese anime songs should always be dubbed. If the point of a dub is to break the language barrier while simultaneously eliciting the same emotional response from the audience that the original voice cast intended, why only dub dialogue? Why not break the language barrier entirely, songs included? We can dub spoken words, but we can't dub sung words? I've never understood that. So far the only dub in which this hasn't been distracting for me is the Naruto dub. It's obviously deeply rooted in Japanese culture, I would argue much more so than Dragon Ball. So, in a weird way, not dubbing the songs isn't terrible in that particular instance. Although I still wouldn't have minded if they dubbed the songs. After all, it would emulate how the Japanese audiences view their anime. I think one of the biggest selling points for subbies is how "exotic" anime sounds if it's in Japanese. Some people have commented that if they're not watching anime in Japanese, it doesn't feel like they're watching anime. I think it's important to remember that to Japanese audiences, the songs are not exotic--they are sung in their own language, they understand every word without subtitles, and so the song has the potential to really connect with them emotionally. Is it so wrong that we try to emulate that on the English end?
2) Similar to dubs themselves, if you don't like the dubbed songs, you can always switch over to the Japanese audio track for a minute and a half and then switch back to the dub. All it takes is the click of a button on your remote. Or, for that matter, you can edit the audio if you're that determined.

I guess I was half joking. I doubt they'd actually try to make any version bad, but that's what happened. It must've been a coincidence. Still, I wish they tried harder to make them sound professional. :/

I don't know if they would qualify, but both MasakoX and Lanipator of TeamFourStar have done covers of Dragon Soul.

I guess I'll add my own version. It's probably not that great; I had fun with it though. But, the thing different about it is the lyrics. I went and made an adaptation of it from the Japanese, well the subs from on the Kai DVD actually.

But, there's was a slight influence from the FUNimation version. The "to make our souls, go, go, let's do it", was taking a slight reference to "free your soul" from there lyrics. So, it was mainly based on the original lyrics; but, took nods to the FUNimation one as well.

I don't know why everyone hates Justin's version of dragon soul I think it's these four letters, E P I C. and this isn't the first time FUNimation used japan anime music and keeping original title there's cha la head cha la from dragon ball z same music maybe dragon ball and dragon ball gt's theme's i'm not sure and Vic's version is the definition of awsome Sean's is pretty good japan version if I was a judge I'd give it two thumbs up

The reason why they didn't use the english translation lyrics for Dragon Soul was because it didn't have much energy and not appeal to the lil kids I mean like, Squirming mysterious energy was horrible but, Mysteries abound made of a deep energy/in this world that we will seek had pep.
