Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
Well, technically he's right in calling it "American anime". Anime is just an abbreviation of animation, so Avatar is American anime, and DB is Japanese anime. I don't care if the majority of English speakers use the word anime to refer to Japanese cartoons; it's just people being ignorant as usual. Though...it's a lot less stupid being told "No! 'Manga' is the Japanese word for comic! You can't call anime 'manga'!" than it is to have people actually think they can translate English to Japanese be changing each letter to it's "corresponding" kana. >_>Innagadadavida wrote:It's not an "American anime" it's an American cartoon through and through. It just has anime influence in the way of action and art-style. You won't see any Japanese/anime tropes. Oh and also the animation is better than most Japanese series.
EDIT: Also the link to the cover art is fail. Anyone have another link?

So what you're saying is that you still stand by your statement, right? What, did you just expect him to forget about his own opinion and blindly follow yours when you said that? And on a forum, no less. You normally don't change someone's opinion without 3 pages of arguing.SolarBlade52 wrote:So what you're saying is that you still stand by your statement, right? There's no way we'll get a redub of Z. It would not be profitable for FUNimation. Aside from us crazies here, who would buy it? Matter of fact I don't think I'd buy it.
Maybe in the future when FUNimation doesn't own Dragon Ball we'll get a new English dub, but don't expect it from the cast we have now.

I feel like if it were to ever happen it wouldn't be anytime soon at all. Dragonball would have to be all but dead in terms of anything related to the franchise (videogames, DVDs, manga). Then I wouldn't be surprised if Funimation gave us some kind of Dragonboxesque "Here's half the series with the nostalgic voices you remember and a redub track for you Kai fans! Look out for part two etc. etc."ohaimynameiserik wrote:There's no way we'll get a redub of Z. It would not be profitable for FUNimation. Aside from us crazies here, who would buy it? I don't think it's likely Funimation would lose the license unless something awful happened to their company.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
Funi is only redubbing stuff they absolutely have to. They would need a legitimate reason to do it. Funi is only redubbing content that's impossible to make a bilingual release of (DB Movie 1, One Piece). Plus if Funi did redub content for the DBoxes, the price would have to multiply to cover dubbing costs. Dubbing costs thousands of dollars. It would be pointless to just redub stuff left and right just because you feel like it. This is the same reason Funi isn't redubbing DB Movies 2 and 3. They're uncut, they've been out for over a decade, fans have clearly accepted them, so why spend the money to redub? Plus I doubt a different dub on the DBoxes is really going to make that much of an impact on sales, especially since the price would be astronomical. Funi would have to divide the boxes further if they wanted to do it badly enough.Mewzard wrote:If George Lucas has taught me anything...it's that if someone can find a way to milk a franchise, they will milk it to the point of malnutrition.SolarBlade52 wrote:I still doubt that they will redub Dragon Ball Z. OK, you know what, I'm going to skip logic because someone refuses to believe what FUNI themselves had said several times now:
Dragon Ball Z will not have a redub.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
This might be a stupid question but when do new episodes air?
I don’t live in America so I can’t check the TV Guide or listings, I presume sometime in the New Year but I’m not sure.

New episodes return to Toonzai sometime in February. IDK about Nicktoons.

According to Toonzone's forums there are no premieres of Kai at all this month.

I agree. Why redub when they could just use the same dub they've been using for releases?SolarBlade52 wrote:OK, you know what, I'm going to skip logic because someone refuses to believe what FUNI themselves had said several times now:

Why put effort into Kai, when the same half assed effort they did at the start would have sold well anyways?metamoss wrote:I agree. They could have, but they didn't. They wanted to do a good dub, and they did. Who's to say, sometime in the future, they don't redub it to make even more off the series. Probably many years from now, but it's possible.
Besides, they did redub some of Season Three, when they didn't have to, so who's to say what they will do?.
Jeez, didn't think I'd have to respond so many times to defend my stance, it's got a lot of resistance, surprisingly, lol.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
Hurrah Z Kai Part 2 arrived this morning in all it's blu ray glory. However there was something I was wondering: did anyone else have some sticker branding it "filler free" or something like that stuck to the outer case? I peeled it off but now it's got a fair bit of glue over it; it wasn't on my Part 1 case so I was wondering am I the only one who has experienced this annoying issue? I know I could have left it on but it looked ugly and I presumed it would come off almost like a post it.

Yeah, I've had that sticker on both Part 2 and 3. And it was STUCK on there, man. For real. I'd suggest getting some "Goo Gone" from the store, spray it on, let it sit for a while, then peel the glue off and wipe the case clean. That's what I did, and now I have a sticky free case!

I think it's hilarious in the most sarcastic of ways that episode 49 STILL will not stream on the Nicktoons site. Part of me wants to install adblocker software to see if the lame ass Neopets commercials they bookend every stream with are what's causing it to not play, but I'm lazy and have better things to do like platinum Black Ops before I go back to school (only three trophies left!). Still, ridiculous that they'd leave this error unfixed for about a month. Whoever maintains that site has got to be a pothead or something to have missed it this long.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discuss
Nope, that won't work. I have adblock and all it does is play the little Nicktoons thing for five seconds and then it goes to the next episode on the queue.
