Contrary to my negative posts in the past regarding the original DBZ, I've come to enjoy/respect both representations of the story via the Japanese version & Funimation's dub.

Both versions have their pros & cons, but they're still interpretations that I can enjoy based off of the manga.

The dub has better music, & the inacuracy of the script simply gives me another take on the story. With the sub version, the music isn't that memorable or classic (to me), but I'll watch it sometimes to get the real emotion & intention that was meant to be displayed. Y'know, the whole Shonen Spirit vibe that sub fans also love.

So, what I'll never understand is why everyone HAS to choose one over the other, when they can just like & appreciate both. That's why when I see dub vs. sub arguments, I just smirk & move on.

Despite being a dub fan originally, I'm a I fan of both versions now, having watched the first Dragonbox in Japanese almost in its entirety, and watching probably the last 20 episodes of the Japanese version of Kai.

While I prefer the English voice, some of the changed names, and the Faulconer bgm (at times), I do treat the Japanese version as the superior version over all (being the original, lacking the corny/inaccurate/altered script, and having a more appropriate soundtrack). Honestly, I now treat the old FUNi dub as a parody of sorts. It makes it more entertaining, and less painful, to watch.

One thing I had fun doing was watching the first Dragonbox with English audio AND the subtitles on, just to see how inaccurate it really was, and to try and imagine the dub voices saying the lines.

Yikes! Naoko`s performence is creepy yet calm, polite, and refined. I prefer him slightly over ayres but ayres is still fucking phenomenal.

YAY Freeza`s Jp voice is so creepy and calm. Dodoria sounds pissed though. `Gohan in Peril! A Pursuing Dodoria Summons Death!`is the episode I'm watching currently.

I know I joke posted here once already but I'm actually going through the entire Funimation dub for the first time myself. It's not horrible on its own merits as far as the Saiyan saga goes. I'll see if I feel the same way once we hit the older stuff.

Ha ha, well we'll see. I'm vaguely familiar with bits and pieces of the old stuff and I know there are some bad jokes here and there (already encountered a few in the Saiyan arc.) I'm trying to judge the dub as its own show so I'm leaving subtitles off and nothing seems all that cringe worthy yet. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.

The voice quality itself is terrible... but then again I'm judging by the original voices, not the "redub" of the earlier stuff. Once it gets to the post Namek stuff, it's not terrible. It's not perfect... but not terrible. Just don't think of it as the same show as the Japanese one lol And I think it takes a lot away from the dub to not have the Faulconer music. That music was a big part of the dub, whether you'd be a fan of it or not.

Yeah even with my limited exposure to the Funimation version I really don't enjoy any of the dub music (Menza, Falcouner...other guy.) It literally makes the episodes unbearable to sit through for me personally. (I don't mean that as an attack to anyone who enjoys the dub music, I'm quite serious that it makes it impossible for the most part.) So I'm using the Japanese OST.

Yeah the music is... yeah. I hated the GT music with a passion. Hated the "Ultimate Uncut" music too. The Faulconner stuff was not bad for me. Some of it was actually good. I just wish he used actual instruments. It sounds like the cheapest synthesizer ever invented. The actual music wouldn't be bad if done by something that sounded a bit more legit. The Ginyu theme, peace theme, Vegeta theme, Trunks theme, Cell theme, Super Saiyan 3 themes are favorites of mine. But I kind of feel like watching the dub without the dub music takes away from the dub. Since the script is so different, it would make sense if other things were different too. To truly experience the dub, it has to be with the music and whatnot, at least that's how I see it. Otherwise it's just kind of half-and-half and really unnecessary. It's just crappier vocal performances with a sometimes much crappier script lol
