Re: Your Fan Confessions
I think...
- The introduction of the Saiya-jin and Raditz, including retconning most fantasy elements into sci-fi, was a real shark jumping moment.
- Discussions about canon, power levels, and "what if" scenarios are a massive waste of time.
- Toriyama handles the progression of the majority of his characters very poorly, if he doesn't outright forget they exist.
- Further, he seems to have a demented perspective on the male-female relationship. Most of his female characters are slutty, psychotic, overbearing and weak. 18 seemed to be an exception to this, but Toriyama made up for her competency by introducing another "strong" woman and subsequently having the shit beat out of her.
- I don't see Dragon Ball as a "martial arts" story, nor the characters martial artists so much as body builders who get in a lot of fights.
- I can't stand the pacing of the anime. Dragon Ball is purely a manga to me.

I like the FUNimation dub.
I like the FUNi score... occasionally..
I still haven't finished viewing the entirety of GT yet.

I put Cell Saga Tenshinhan around Freeza second form level and I think Buu Saga Tenshinhan might go head to head with a normal SSj as well.

Re: Your Fan Confessions
Some of this stuff is what I posted over in the "inside fanon" thread a while ago. I've edited some of it to fit with what I think now.
-During the three years' training for the Androids, Bulma wrongly accused Yamcha of cheating on her (when it was just Bulma's jealousy of the unprovoked female attention the previously girl-phobic guy was getting) and broke up with him for good. Seeking solace and wanting revenge on Yamcha, she seduced Vegeta and had sex with him.
-Goku has a natural lifespan of over 100 years, due to reaching near-immortal sennin status (like Kame-sennin and Taopaipai) through training.
-I don't think the pure heart rule for Super Saiyan exists. Goku's speech on Namek was supoposed to be dramatic and philosophical, and I don't think the pure heart line was to be taken literally (at that time). Kuririn doesn't know shit about the rules of Super Saiyan, and Vegeta agreeing with him was just assumption based on the fact that two good guys could do it. Plus, I don't think Future Trunks has a pure heart either, since he doesn't appear any purer than the other Z-Warriors.
-I don't think Goku had a pure heart post-Freeza arc. He was happy to throw away the opportunity to kill Dr. Gero before he built the Androids in favour of a good fight (and used the "it's not nice to kill him if he hasn't built anything yet" as a cover-up excuse), and bargained with the old Kaioshin to let him feel up at Bulma. He'd had sex with Chi-Chi at least twice, asked Kaioshin if he minded if Bulma was middle-aged and said the reason he didn't give him Chi-Chi was that she was flat-chested. He knew what he was doing.

Seeking solace and wanting revenge on Yamcha, she seduced Vegeta and had sex with him.
-Lunch got bored of chasing Tenshinhan, went back into crime and became a prostitute.Yamcha & Chi-Chi: Sometime after Bulma banged Vegeta and spread vicious lies of Yamcha's "cheating", Yamcha and Chi-Chi, who were both equally lonely, engaged in an affair (which Goku never found out about because he was out training all the time). After Majin Boo was destroyed and life went back to normal, Yamcha asked Chi-Chi to get a boob job (she was flat-chested, as mentioned by Son Goku). Lacking self-confidence and believing that the only way she'd be able to hold down a man who "loved" her is if she enhanced herself, she obliged. After the boob job, she felt good about herself, thinking that she was finally able to indulge in womanly pleasures she believes she missed out on, and then changed her overall appearance*. In a way, she was disguising the fact that she was actually an emotionally fragile woman with a lively affair in which she felt loved.
Son Gohan's Concievement: After Goku and Chi-Chi's marriage, Chi-Chi gave Son Goku sex education classes (some of them interactive). At that time, Goku was 20 years old, and had already long gone through puberty, so what else are you gonna do when Chi-Chi comes downstairs one morning wearing nothing but sexy lingerie?
Son Goten's Concievement: Sometime in the Cell arc, Chi-Chi seduced Goku again, which resulted in the concievement of Son Goten.
Vegeta & Bulma/Bra's Concievement: During those 7 years in which Vegeta had bonded with Trunks through training, Vegeta had become softer due to the peaceful life on Earth, not going around and killing aliens 24/7. His love for Trunks in turn developed his love for Bulma, and after he sacrificed his life against Majin Boo and finally admitted his love for Bulma and Trunks, they had a somewhat normal relationship with the odd argument patched up with heated, animal sex. One of these such occasions resulted in the concievement of Bra.
Kuririn & 18/Marron's Concievement: Desperately horny for sex, Kuririn developed an infatuation with #18 from the moment she teasingly kissed him. When #18 mistook Kuririn's bomb-removing wish for compassion, she reciprocated his crush and the two got together out of convenience. They were both first-timers, at relationships and sex, and were so scared of not being in love that they hung onto what little was left on their relationship. After the first exciting six months where they thought they couldn't be happier, all that was left was meaningless, tired sex. One of these such occasions resulted in the concievement of Marron.
After many years (not long after Goku flew off to train Oob), #18 got bored of Kuririn and broke up with him.**
*This explains why, in that filler after Boo is destroyed, Chi-Chi's breasts are bigger than Bulma's and she looks different--somewhat younger and more attractive.
**(The reason I think this is because Kuririn & #18 getting together was stupid. I know Toriyama can't write love, but Kuririn's actions concerning #18 were completely out-of-character and there was no need to keep #18 around as a background character.)

- I absolutely love GT. I actually watched all of it before I even saw all of Z. They used to sell bootlegs in thrift shops around where I lived. I was the MAN in 5th grade. Everyone thought I had some access to some rare stuff. Nothing passed the Frieza arc was airing here yet.

I think Cha-La Head-Cha-La is a piece of shit.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

He's cool. He's the strongest warrior in Dragon Ball (bar GT). He whooped Boo's ass as a candy. And coolness is enhanced when you've got short screentime. That's why people like Vegetto (and Gogeta) so much.

Re: Your Fan Confessions
~Many, many years ago, when I was just beginning my fandom of Dragon Ball, Chaozu was my favorite character. Following the broadcast of the Cell arc in 2000 on Toonami, my favorite character then changed to Gohan, whom is still my favorite character.
~There is not one part of all four series that I think is awful, including the movies and the original animations. I enjoy watching all of the filler and think it's cool to see an original story outside of the manga once in a while in the anime.
-I think GT is an okay series and not perfect by any means, but is still enjoyable for me to watch, especially the first two arcs.
-As for Kai....eh. I like that Toei is trying to make the anime as close to the manga as possible, but I personally enjoy Z a lot more. I would've preferred either a complete re-animation (which would've probably never happened), or a completely new anime. That said, I think Kai is decent, and I'll end up purchasing Kai eventually when a bigger collection for Kai is released by FUNi.
~I have read only 6 volumes of the manga. I'll get around to the rest...someday...
~I have not watched the last arc of GT.
~I have not purchased any Dragon Ball video games after Infinite World. None of them have really caught my eye except for Revenge of King Piccolo and the upcoming Zenkai Battle Royale. I don't own a PS3 or 360, so I couldn't purchase most of them anyway.
~I dislike Kid Trunks' Japanese voice, even though I prefer listening to the sub. That said, I do like Takeshi Kusao's older Trunks voice.
~I don't think Gohan is that annoying of a character before the Cell Games. On that note, I don't think Goten or Kid Trunks are that bad of characters either. They are one of the best parts of the Buu arc in my opinion.
On that note, I prefer saying "Kami" instead of "God" when referring to that character. Yes, I know, 'Kami" can mean "God" in Japanese, but for me, God means God, and no one else. Not even the green, antennae-bearing alien that looks over the Dragon Ball Earth.
Well, I think that's about it.

I'm a Christian as well and I use "Mr. Satan" when referring to Mr. Satan. Well, actually, only on these boards and among anyone I know who watches the Japanese version. I use the H-word when talking to anyone who is more familiar with FUNi's dub. I guess my take on using "Mr. Satan" is that it doesn't matter if you use the devil's name in vain. It matters much more if you use God's name in vain.AoiKageNoChikara wrote:11: I don't like saying mr. satan ... I'm Christian

I like Vegeta's look at the beginning of GT. I don't know why. Maybe because it makes him seem older and more mellowed out.

I confess that i have not seen the entirety of Dragon ball the original series. I also hate reading manga for the censoring and what not.
Re: Your Fan Confessions
- I think Gohan was strongest (non-fusion)* character in the series, period.
- I don't get how people can like the music in the original Dragon Ball and not like the Japanese score in Z (which is literally the same!)
- I wouldn't mind the FUNimation dub and it's script, but the performances are too piss-poor to make up for it.
- Anything beyond Super Saiyan 3 wouldn't make sense, that much energy exerted would blow-up the damn planet.
