Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
This is thread I wanted to make for a while now and hadn't seen one really like it either.
And I'll pretty much start of with my own story/intro to it (I'll keep it short):
Of course like a lot of people, I first saw Z back on Toonami in the early 2000's and I continued to watch it, the original Dragon Ball and even GT well into 2004. I'm of course fond of some of those English voice actors and such but regardless I never really consider myself a casual fan of DBZ at that, the original maybe but never Z.
The filler and people's perception of Z in general come from of course the never ending joke that it's "Drag-On Ball", and even watching Z now for me is kinda hard (dub or sub for that matter). There's certain filler I enjoy and will admit it furthers the characters' development to a extent but a lot that is in the Saiyan Arc, but even then myself and I'd assume quite a few more people would agree that even then it still slow getting to the point.
So when Kai was announced and exactly what it was doing, I flipped my shit in joy. Aha really, with Kai I can have all that nostalgia of the show with out all the filler or frankly? Without all the bullshit ala the padding in the fights.
If it wasn't for Kai in general? Yeah, I probably wouldn't had even came truly into the Dragon Ball fandom fully, acknowledging my love for the original Pre-Z story and then the Z story itself thanks to Kai. So Toei and FUNi, this is one fan you guys truly gained thanks to your little experiment.
(Please Note: I don't wanna see bunch of "Rah Rah Rah, I hate Kai because of..." responses. I want this to be as what the title says and maybe even a bit of a Kai appreciation thread).

I wouldn't say reignite but I have been watching the Anime more because of it.
Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
Nah. I've been 'back in' Dragon Ball mode since around the time the Orange Bricks were hitting. Dragon Ball Kai does allow for fun times in the chat, though!

Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
Not really. ^^;
Things that are brand new reignite that; the Jump Tour special, DBO character histories (like finding out what happens to Goku and Vegeta post-manga), the RB2 special. Hell, even speculating about the DBSD manga short and the live action movie before it actually came out gave me inspiration ideas to some extent.
All Kai does is get me to re-watch episodes that I haven't seen in a very long time; some probably not since they aired in Funi dub form back on weekday Toonami. I have been following Kai each week, and it's good that it's been a while since there are some things I've since forgotten so I do occasionally get surprised.
I'm still kinda longing for the next brand new thing though, whatever it may be.

Actually, yeah. Yeah, it has.
Kai and the Dragon Boxes are both why I got back into the world of Dragon Ball, something I thought I had largely left behind me years ago. It reinvigorated my interest in the world and its characters by being shiny and new. It's why I signed up as a member of this board.
Just think, if it weren't for Kai, I would never have been around here. Sure colors your perspective of the show, doesn't it?
Oh hey, stop mailing razor blades to Toei! Come on!

Nah, not necessarily. My interest kicked into high-gear pretty much when the season sets came out.
I guess it's ok that Kai's serving its purpose and making those that love the filler cut happy, though. However, I'd rather watch the entire uncut material instead of a choppy mess that doesn't let you breath.

It has reignited my interest in the dub and dub related fields for sure. I'm kind of frustrated over people keeping DB in the air as a whole so I wouldn't say it has reignited my interest in the series, I kind of think it's doing the exact opposite.

Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
Kai definitely did the trick for me. I watched the first few episodes on Toonzai 'cos a friend told me about it. Then I got impatient having to wait for Saturday and decided to re-watch the series
After that I watched Dragon Ball again, and I'm probably going to get around to GT very soon. That's when I get done watching the Funi dub of Z though..
I'm still watching Kai on Toonzai but the new season hasn't started yet (btw, anyone have any idea when Toonzai will start it up again?)

I was in the middle of my collection of VizBigs when Kai was announced for the US, then a TV airing on Nicktoons, then on the CW, so not really. But I was glad that it was going to be shown to a new generation of kids for their enjoyment.

No, not really as I had already gotten into it when right before Orange brick 6 had come out.

Not particularly. Hell, I've probably become less interested over the past year.

Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Well, it's the only series besides Naruto Shippuden I watch on a weekly basis, so yeah.

Yes, it did.
I currently only watch Dragon Ball Kai and One Piece on a weekly basis, but I'm also going to watch Naruto Shippuden as soon as they end the filler arc.Castor Troy wrote:Well, it's the only series besides Naruto Shippuden I watch on a weekly basis, so yeah.

Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
I wasn't "away" from Dragonball around the time Kai came out, but it really wasn't an extremely exciting part of my life at the time. So, yes, it did make things exciting again.

Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
Kai didn't reignite my interest; however, it did ignite it! I wasn't even a fan until Kai. Since I first saw it I started collected the original DVDs and getting deep into the fandom. Congratulations Toei, you've gotten a new fan.

Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
First saw DBZ when it was first on Toonami in 99 and pretty sure I've been on that train ever since. Maybe not always watching it but I'd pick the games up every year, talk about it and always think about it (when it went off the air). When Kai was announced I deff. got really back into it but when I saw announced I mean when it was first rumored. I'll always be a die hard Dragon Ball fan as my favorite anime with some shows coming really, really close behind (Death Note, Gundam Wing, and Darker Than Black).
Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
Haha, it absolutely did. I was more of a casual fan, I hadn't watched the series since the Toonami days (except clips on YouTube and such). The only thing I did regularly was buy most of the PS2 games and go through the story mode. When I heard about Kai I was interested and looked it up. And as the internet tends to do, it lead me to multiple places where I learned about the Dragon Boxes, Season Sets, and the dub. I bought the Viz Complete DB/DBZ Manga Box Sets and breezed through it. Kai was definitely the spark that reignited my interest in the series.
Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
Not really since it already existed when I got into Dragonball again,I´d have to thank TFS for that

Re: Did Kai reignite your interest in Dragon Ball?
No. But it did jump-start it after another lull.
I was getting back into DragonBall, by my first stumble into the world of Daizex and the podcasts, and it was the Dragon Boxes and Kai that solidified back into the role of a DragonBall fan, Kai especially now.

I guess it maybe helped a bit since I did begin to watch Dragon Ball again but it was really Daizex that got me back into Dragon Ball again.
