Probably the best way to tell the difference between DragonBox footage and Orange Brick footage would be to take a DragonBox DVD, toss it in the player and zoom in to chop off the top and bottom of the frame. The colours on the Orange Brick footage do look better than DBOX in that episode. Of course, remastering itself is clearly leagues-far worse, but that comparison tells us the need for colour correction on the faded master films at least. Toei did it for Kai, but I want the whole Z series with the colour-corrected footage.

IMHO the colors look better in the DragonBox images. While I know that color correction needs to be done to old masters since they fade, the real problem is telling exactly what they should be adjusted to.

You forgot the most important step: Take out a musical synthesizer keyboard and start mashing buttons on it during all the scenes when the characters are standing and staring at each other for two minutes.

At least for this episode, removing the red color cast would be a start:









I simply took them into Photoshop, and used the "Remove Color Cast" tool and selected the "white" areas, which removed the red color cast and made whites and grays as they should be, as opposed to the pink/lavender they are on the Dragon Box shots. To my knowledge, that's all it affects. Actually, I think it looks pretty much perfect. While there may be some slight fading in other colors which would require extensive color correcting to get them technically correct, but even just without the red tint, I think it looks much better.

I think the green sky, and deep pink of the highlights of Goku's hair when using the Kaioken in those shots looks beautiful when the color cast is removed.

Yeah, that was my post. It seems every time I delete my posts now, I get the "internal server error" message, and though my post gets deleted, it still shows me as the most recent user to post. It used to happen rarely, but it is nearly every time now.

Oh, I don't know. The Dragon Box masters for that part of the series are definitely faded too red, but I'm not sure FUNimation's high blue level looks any better.

The color corrections Metalwario64 just did look gorgeous though.

Literally the majority of the time the screen shakes this happens up until around the 7th set. Easily the worst thing about those sets in my book.
