Dragon Ball (Golden/Silver/Bronze) Age Discussion.

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Fri Feb 18, 2011 3:03 pm

You know how certain franchises or long running comic series might have different "ages" to give a name to certain periods of time the franchises or series has gone through? For example, I know Marvel has a "Golden Age" ( http://marvel.com/universe/Category:Golden_Age ), while DC actually has many "ages" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dc_comics ). Since this is a DragonBall forum I think you know where I'm going with this...

Do you think DragonBall is too young in the whole aspect of things to warrant ages? Or, if do you feel you've seen DragonBall change so much in your lifetime it could easily be defined into ages. I personally think, what I've seen and what a lot of us old school fans have seen while being fans of the series, we could easily age the series. This is how I would do it.

Dragon Ball Golden Age - This age would start in 1984 when the first chapters of DragonBall ran in Shonen Jump up until 1997 when the last episode of DBGT aired. This age contains the original run of the manga and anime series. It's the first time every thing was new and the series was on going. I would love if this Golden Age caught on with fans because sometimes I see a piece of promotional art and I know it's from the original run of the series but don't know what year. If I could just say "Oh, that's from the Golden Age" it would be so much easier. :D

Now I don't know about a Silver Age or Golden Age Z just yet. Maybe it's too early, maybe not. What'd you guys think?

Toons of fandoms goes on without "ages". Star Wars divide time for Original, Special Editions, Sequels etc. but it comes naturally. If you really want to divide find something more original :D

But if you really want to divide that...Why don't you consider a Golden Age years when DB get popular in USA? That would appeal more to people since we are on English language forum. For fans in European countries there would be another, sometimes hardly to name years.

Related Fun fact?:
I actually heard that fans of Shonen Jump or (Shonen Jump themselves) called the period in which they published DB the "the golden era of SJ" when the magazine was nr. 1 in the industry due to DB and the period after DB ended "the dark age" because sales dropped a lot until One Piece, Naruto and Bleach appeared.

I think that the golden age was from 2002-2005 when DBZ was hitting its peak and fans were going crazy for new episodes on Toonami. 40+ MILLION fans were tuning in to catch new episodes, whenever they aired. We had DBZ commercials for action figures, video games, everything. It was HUGE! I still get goosebumps watching the old Toonami re-runs. I have got 20+ DVD's with recorded DB and DBZ episodes, from Toonami, with all the commercials, intros, and endings. I love em! I honestly think those were the best years for DBZ fans, in the US anyways
