What would happen if Masako Nowaza died?
Re: What would happen if Masako Nowaza died?
Recast Goku in future iterations.
It's inevitable. Dragon Ball as a franchise is going to last far longer than any of its actors. I do kind of hope they use a completely different interpretation though, rather than try to imitate the original voice.

I think at the very least it could have been worded differently. Let's face it,inevitable or not, this isn't something anybody wants to talk about.
"What if she retired "or "who do you think should replace her as Goku" would've been a lot better. The first post does sound a bit insensitive, if you ask me. Although the second isn't much better.
It's hard to imagine another voice for Son Goku. Frankly, I don't even want to think about this....

I agree. The OP could have at least used a euphemism. "Were to pass away" would have been a bit less blunt.Michsi wrote:I think at the very least it could have been worded differently. Let's face it,inevitable or not, this isn't something anybody wants to talk about.
On topic: she would be recast, obviously. I doubt there would be any cessations in the Dragon Ball Franchise because of her passing.

Well, they'd have to recast all her roles, perhaps with a voice actor imitiating her voices. And it would be a sad day for the Dragon Ball fandom.

How does one imitate Nozawa?!
You can't. It just wouldn't work.
Of course they'll try, but none of us will think it serves Nozawa justice.

I think that her old age would render her unable to do the role before she would pass away, similar to Aono Takeshi and his role as Kami. Though either would be very horrible, and I hope she has at least a few good and healthy decades left in her!

I wonder if Ms. Nozawa would help in picking her own successor for Goku's voice? I mean, act as one of the people who would review auditions and have some weight in choosing a new voice?
On hiatus.

What is this, the Saban edited dub? ("What would happen if Masako Nozawa went to another dimension?")Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I agree. The OP could have at least used a euphemism. Anyway, I would be pretty upset. It would mark the end of something that was wonderful (her DB roles), and I think would cause a little pain to anyone. Myself, it would kill some of my childhood, as I discovered the wonder of the original when I was 10 or so.

Re: What would happen if Masako Nowaza died?
Calm down dude, geez, I've just given it a though you know, she's like the most important Db Seiyuu, and though she's still got it, Dead is inevitable, I'm just wondering, cuz Who else would be able to Voice:You are truly a disgusting person, to even think about her death. You are a sick person. There would be nothing we could do, first of all, and praying wouldn't help since she had already died. But that's not the point. The point is you shouldn't make comments like this. She's alive and well and we should be thankful for that
Goku, Gohan, Goten, Bardock, Tullece.
Tell me! would you pick Naruto's v.a?? HELL NO. Masako-san's unique for Goku. She voices every male in Goku's family, who else could do that without out sounding the same? would they get diferent voice actors for everything? or would they pick one person who could voice everyone? would that person fit the role? (NO) that's what's bugging me!!
I an a manly man thank you LOL. That's what I was saying, would it be a pure catastrophe? would it be something everyone would get to accept? obviusly new generation doesn't give a heck about it. but we do.He (or possibly she) was only asking a simple question. No need to flame, he/she was just curious. Obviously Nowaza is alive, and most likely well. I think a lot of fans would be really really upset, seeing as the VA for Goku would have died.
That.... I would not accept so quickly someone who replaces nowaza... but that would really help. I mean she IS goku (as gay as that sounds LOL) who else can be better to pick a new voice for him? oh boy. can't we wish her some youth with the dragon balls? LOL (sorry had to lift sadness somehow)I wonder if Ms. Nozawa would help in picking her own successor for Goku's voice? I mean, act as one of the people who would review auditions and have some weight in choosing a new voice

Re: What would happen if Masako Nowaza died?
Of course not. But perhaps they'll just try to keep the voice alive, so to speak, because it's so iconic and become the voice for Goku.ohaimynameiserik wrote:How does one imitate Nozawa?!

And I don't think anyone will be thinking that it would serve Nozawa justice. After all, there's only one Nozawa. But they'll probably just want to keep the new voice as close as possible, rather than one that strays away from her portrayal.
Yeah, I agree that it would be nice for Nozawa to pick her successor. It would at least keep fans from potentially flaming the new voice actor, 'cos you know what some fans are like.

I agree with this.Chibi Gohan wrote:As for DB... they'd probably just find new VA's for her roles.
Even though people can be identified with a particular role, the character is not the actor or vice versa. A death is always sad and we hope it doesn't happen for a long time and hope their health is always strong but, if say ten years down the road, a new series goes into production, recasting could very well be the route taken even without any passings.
Let's take Star Trek, for example; despite reprising his role as Spock, Leonard Nimoy (who is, undoubtedly, identified with Spock as much as Masako Nozawa is with Goku) feels that the "torch" has been effectively passed to Zachary Quinto and is happy to see him be the face of Spock. It would be no different with Goku, as a new actor could be chosen to portray the character and, like the actors in the latest Star Trek movie, avoid going the imitation route as, to paraphrase Chris Pine, the character is Son Goku not Masako Nozawa. But that does not mean there would not be any respect for what has come before.

It has been found. The wrongest sentence.AoiKageNoChikara wrote:She voices every male in Goku's family, who else could do that without out sounding the same?
In any case, they'd find a new actor, part of the fanbase would cry for a week and refuse to ever accept it while another part would live with it and perhaps even enjoy it.
Also more US fans may migrate to the JP version without BRAWWWKu.

Gotta wonder something. With Kai being over, they may never make another consistent series again. Would they even bother hiring a consistent voice actor? Or would they just hire a similar sounding voice actor anytime they decided to use him? I can't imagine Goku being in much more than video game commercials.

Re: What would happen if Masako Nowaza died?
That's certainly a possibility, but what Kai had going against it was it was basically just a rehash of Dragon Ball Z using mostly existing footage, when the original is easily available. Who knows how it would have performed had it been an entirely new production.Great Saiyaman I wrote:With Kai being over, they may never make another consistent series again.
