There are plenty of works which don't actually explain everything to you or fill in all the blanks, and that doesn't make them bad in any way actually.TonyTheTiger wrote:Really? I admit, I'm no literary genius or even especially talented in any particular way, but I think most people operate under the assumption that if there's vital information then it's important to give the audience that information rather than force them to come up with a solution themselves. Or if it's supposed to be ambiguous then at least set up that ambiguity somehow rather than remain perfectly silent.rereboy wrote: You are assuming that there isn't a reason just because it wasn't stated so far.
Why not assume there is a reason for it, even if its not stated? It seems far more logical to me...
I don't see how writing a story, any story, implying "there's an explanation for this" but then basically foregoing the explanation itself or any hint of it, is a good direction to venture. To me that comes off as just plain bad writing, fanfiction or otherwise. It's the author's job to make sure the work makes sense, not the audience's.
But anyway, we have reached the point I was trying to make... What you are really against is having it go unexplained, not the fact that there isn't a reason for him being different. And I understand you, I would also rather have it properly explained. But, like I said, I also don't think its that big of a problem as you believe.
