I don't think that Nameks are supposed to be black. And frankly that seems kinda racist. I think Namekians are supposed to be like some weird Buddhist cult.

To preface this, I should say that none of this topic should be looked into too deeply and should only be taken as fun. While I think it's silly to think of Piccolo is black, I also think it's silly to think that thinking of him that way is racist. But I do find it funny that Piccolo being perceived as black is somehow offensive, but then turning right around and comparing them to Buddhists is perfectly acceptable.

If people want to poke silly fun or find humor at the perceived similiarities between alien species and real-life groups, then that's fun and silly. But to seriously analyze this as some kind of social allegory is just... silly.

I know, but lots of Japense shows use ostensibly simlistic things as allegories for wider things. Think Godzilla as a living metaphor for nucleur disasters, etc. I'm pretty sure the Nameks are supposed to be like natives or something and Freeze represents rampant imperalism. So maybe there supposed to be Indians or something.

I was introduced to DBZ at a young age by my oldest brother who happens to be half black. He always said Piccolo was black and called him his...well.... N-word-ending-with-a-not-er and now I can't get that out of my head. So to me if Piccolo became human he would be black...

Blacks aren't a racial group, they are an ethnic group. The entire concept of "race" within humans was squashed by SCIENCE! a long time ago. The genetic difference between a black person and a white person is the same as the difference between a white person with black hair and a white person with blonde hair, which is to say practically non existent. Every time I see the term "racial group" it urks me, even more so with the term "racism", but I guess ethnicism doesn't role off the tongue as well...

I can't really say Sabat's Piccolo reminds of a black person and I'm black myself. Maybe in voice tone, but overall not really to me.

Point still stands since the nits you picked have nothing to do with my point to begin with. And considering the whole pretend "controversy" of this topic is whether or not saying Piccolo is black is "racist," that I'm arguing that it's completely silly to even go there, and that I specifically avoided using the term until someone else tried to correct me for it, I have to wonder why it's my post that irked you. Oh, and it "irks" me when people misspell "irks".
