Rewrite of the DBZ movies

Post by Piccolo Daimao » Fri Aug 19, 2011 3:22 pm

So I know that a number of people are unhappy with some of the DBZ movies. But how would you rewrite them? And also, which movies would you omit entirely?

I would make the movies be able to fit in the main time line without any plot holes, and I would omit movies 10-13, just because I don't like them.

Why, though? I think the movies are better without the staff trying to shoehorn them into the main series' timeline. They don't have to be taken as anime canon, it doesn't hinder your fun if they don't fit in and they're just fun little side-stories.

Omit? Eh, Broly sequels, I guess; everything good about Bio Broly could have been done with the same scenario but a different villain.

World's Strongest: Kochin/Willow backstory. Seriously; make parallels to Kame-Senin (Keep forgetting to use the name, honestly, ha), Goku, and Piccolo where appropriate, show us why they were kicked out of the scientific community, etc. It would make the duo a bit more sympathetic and the battle that much more climatic, if they've been scheming since the series began ala Gero.

Haven't seen Tree of Might in a while, but there can be some Icarus/Hya Dragon cutting somewhere. I love how huge the Tree makes the movie, needs to be as much focus on that as much as possible. Something needs to happen to Cooler movies as well; the first is oddly paced, the second is a silly- cool as it is- premise.

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Movie 1 would need some sort of explanation as to why Kuririn wouldn't recognize Gohan when Goku visited Roshi at the start of Z. An "Amnesia memory wipe" could've been easy to do here, but it's implied only Gohan himself was the one who forgot what happened.

Movie 3-5 could be rewritten so that Higher Dragon is absent from all of them. Movie 4 could also be written so that "False Super Saiyan" is omitted, Lord Slug is given more backstory, and there's actual evidence that the writers know anything about Namek. Movie 6 simply needs a prolonged fight scene with the Mecha Cooler army, which was totally a missed moment.

Hmmm, I'd really like to see another 10-20 minutes added to Dragon Fist Explosion!! If Goku Won't Do it, Who Will? The extra time could be used to expand even further upon Tapion and Trunks' relationship and maybe an explanation for Goku's new attack, oh, and more Vegeta wouldn't hurt. Maybe throw Piccolo and Mr. Satan in there as well.

Most movies I've just seen are just utterly boring to me. So are the filler arcs, and so were the Cell and the Buu sagas (the latter moreso than the former). This is the case with virtually ever other anime I have seen, not just Dragonball.

Definitely Movie 8 and 10. Movie 8 had a horrible "we got to end the movie now" ending. Movie 10 brought a lot of confusion over Gohan being SSJ 2 or not (this would overall determine Broly's actual strength). Also the Dragon Balls granting a wish without summuning Shenron was a bit silly.

Replace the second Spirit Bomb in Movie 3 with False Super Saiyan.

DO IT.

Also, thinking back on it, Movie 12 started up the fight too quickly as well. But I don't know what build up you really need to Janemba, seeing how he's random with no real motive.

That's the same in the manga and anime too.

I liked how the three Dragon Ball movies included villains in other roles, like the Red Ribbon Army working under Chaozu, Tenshinhan, Tao Pai Pai and Tsuru-sennin. I'd have Raditz and Nappa as Tullece's henchmen replacing those two annoying twin things, then have Vegeta as one of Coola's henchmen who goes rogue when he finds out there's more Saiyans, and have Coola appear much earlier. And I'd rewrite the Bio-Broli and Fusion movies together and have it about a clone of Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta, dressed similar to how Gohan dresses as Great Saiyaman just not Green, with baggy pants and nothing on his head and have them fuse into Gogeta or Vegetto later on, with #18, Goten and Trunks still fighting minor clones of other characters.

And since all the movies happen as parallel dimensions sort of, I'd have the last movie almost exactly the same, except replace Vegeta and Goku with Vegetto, as if he's never come apart. Because c'mon, there was never enough Vegetto.

A second Garlic Jr. movie would have kicked ass too, if it was like a remake of the filler arc, only with better animation, character designs and just less shit... and include Goku and Vegeta somehow, like they have to help Kami and Mr. Popo for some reason.

Rather than bring Broly back three times, have Turles be the returning SSJ in Movie 8, and introduce some other unique villain for 10. 11 can stay as a clone of a defeated villain. 13 would not create any confusion about the sword, and would firmly establish that Goku didn't win because he was strongest.
