Over 9000 is about as funny as Tellah calling Gilbert/Edward a Spoony Bard.

And it's amazing how we go on and on and on and on about how it's not funny. We certainly love talking about how much we hate it.

If it is a 4chan meme, then that is more than enough for me to hate it.

I was going to say something along the lines of "We elevate "Doooodge!" and "NERD!" (Better joke placement granted), but shun "Over 9000!"? Seems a bit two-faced to me. Or am I to take it that we're above these things altogether here?" But this is more to the point.Kendamu wrote:And it's amazing how we go on and on and on and on about how it's not funny. Either way, I'll shut up about that for everyone's sake.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
"DODGE!" and "NERD!" were intended to be jokes in the first place and we had a lot of fun of them while they were relevant. Even "Over 9000" was something we had fun with, whether most will admit it or not, when it was relevant. Even after it's relevancy wore off, we at least had fun with making fun of it.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:funrush wrote:It's a meme we love to hate.I was going to say something along the lines of "We elevate "Doooodge!" and "NERD!" I don't understand. What are you guys talking about? What are you referring to when you speak these words as though there is some greater meaning behind them?
I don't even know what you guys mean, so how am I being two-faced when I'm saying I am sick and tired of (being sick and tired) over 9000 continuing to persist long after it's expiration date?

I'd like to introduce you to http://www.teamfourstar.com/page-episode-list. Just start at Episode 1 and get back to us when you're done.

I only really casually follow DBZA, so I don't really memorize all of the jokes and whatnot.
Now that I know the context, I don't see too many DBZA jokes repeated too often around here anymore (unless it's being done in the DBZA thread, but I haven't checked it out in a while, so I don't know, or maybe they're just going over my head, as the above example had), so I don't see any double standards in that regard.
9000 jokes are repeated ad nauseum constantly throughout the internet to this very day (and I don't think I've seen a TFS joke outisde of this forum or YouTube), and even FUNimation won't leave it alone still, so I really don't see them as the same things.
If FUNimation's number 1 DBZ moment in their recent top 10 list had been something like "Radditz smacks Krillin with his tail - bcuz krillin owned count lulz!1", then that'd change things.

The current DBZA jokes aren't as quotable while still being anywhere remotely on topic. I have yet to find a way to fit "I AM CHAMPION CHRISTMAS!" into a thread here. Most of the jokes are being repeated on Twitter.

Off-topic but...you could've posted it that Cyber Monday thread.Kendamu wrote:The current DBZA jokes aren't as quotable while still being anywhere remotely on topic. I have yet to find a way to fit "I AM CHAMPION CHRISTMAS!" into a thread here. Most of the jokes are being repeated on Twitter.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
"DODGE" and "NERD!" came from a fan parody. "Over 9000!" came from an official dub that made an over-"acted" and inaccurate line. ...You sure you wanna put them in the same category?BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:I was going to say something along the lines of "We elevate "Doooodge!" and "NERD!" Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I used to find it funny back in like... 2007 or 2008, but after that I just don't find it funny anymore. It's like how nobody finds memes like "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE" and "so i herd u liek mudkips" funny anymore.ringworm128 wrote:I dont get why everyone hates OVER 9000!!! and NOOOOOOOOOO!? Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I agree Pokewhiz7, the colors also feel superior to me as well. The Earth sky looks a tad like Namek on Dboxes on the level sets though they look like the correct blue.To me the colors are far superior to the Dragon Boxes. Much more natural. Less pink skin, sea green skies, etc.
When you actually watch it on TV believe me you won't notice any dullness, instead the crisp sharpness and very good coloring.True, but on some characters the skin colors can be a little dull, pink or not. Really, what I like about this release is how sharp it is, and how these are good for casual buyers who may take 2-3 years to buy the series, where the DBoxes were around for a year and a half and disappeared.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
The original videos that spawn the memes/discussions/examples/whatever? They're (see what I did there...? ^_~) not the problem.
The problem is when you can't walk two inches on the Internet with this franchise without having it shoved down your throat, as if one moment from one random dub of the series that someone decided to take out of context and make a humorous video about somehow defines the entire franchise and its fandom.
When future products from legitimate companies responsible for the well-being of the franchise bank on it for their own marketing.
When kids step on my lawn.

This ^, recently freddiew made a woefully bad version of it - next thing you know people go to the 'Over 9000' video and the top comment is freddiew sent me here...-_- Not to mention the number of comment like 'wtf is this'Choujin Daizenshuu wrote:People hate them because they're overused to the point of mindless trolling.ringworm128 wrote:I dont get why everyone hates OVER 9000!!! and NOOOOOOOOOO!? I agree, except I never found "Noooo!" funny nor did I "Leave Britney Alone." I may be one of the only people who actually enjoys memes.Son Geeko wrote:I used to find it funny back in like... 2007 or 2008, but after that I just don't find it funny anymore. I guess. But, it doesn't take that much creativity to take an overacted scene and place it randomly in between other random clips. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve any credit, but he's not some comedy genius here.jjgp1112 wrote:If it weren't for Kajtokun it wouldn't be a meme in the first place. He definitely deserves credit.
Speaking of, I won't deny that FUNi are great marketers for including it in their advertising.VegettoEX wrote:When future products from legitimate companies responsible for the well-being of the franchise bank on it for their own marketing.
