Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 & 2 (1-9) DVD sets at RightStuf!

Yeah, I meant the cover art. I agree about the Cooler disc...
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I liked how in the new trailer, at the end, it showed the dragon coming toward the screen and then it showed the cover art.
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 & 2 (1-9) DVD sets at RightSt
Uh...they're not traced. They're redrawn completely.bkev wrote:^Yes and no. They are based off the original movie posters, but they've been traced in vector-art fashion. To varying degrees of quality... the movie covers themselves look good, but that Cooler disc art? Atrocious.
Also at least with the Broly cover some characters are missing/replaced.

Hey, I know the topic says "1 & 2" but I figured this was the best place to post these. Here are the last covers and back image from the last DBZ Movie DVD 4 - Pack. Sorry I was lazy and took pics instead of scanning.

Also, if you actually wanna read the little print at the bottom, here is a full sized version...

Hey all, haven't been on in a while. Thanks for posting pics of the last movie pack!
Is it just me, or was it CHEAP of Funimation to combine movies 10 & 11 (Broly - Second Coming & Bio-Broly) onto a single disc for this movie pack? Earlier films in this set are the same length as these two, yet they still each got their own disc, just as movies 10 & 11 got when they were originally released on DVD. I don't know if it was the same way on the Steelbook Double Features, but it came across as a bit cheap to me in this pack.

Movies 10 & 11 were on 1 disc in the steelbook as well. FUNi is reusing those discs for these sets.Jusenkyo_Guide wrote:Hey all, haven't been on in a while. Thanks for posting pics of the last movie pack!

Sorry if this has been answered, but these are essentially just the double feature discs in new packaging right?

Ok so I have all of the original singles and the remastered first 3 movies....... are these worth getting or should my singles stay?
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 & 2 (1-9) DVD sets at RightSt
That honestly depends some people prefer the singles and some prefer the steel books it is matter of preference I prefer the steel books [Tho I am missing 12/13].Spike_86 wrote:Ok so I have all of the original singles and the remastered first 3 movies....... are these worth getting or should my singles stay?
Re: Dragon Ball Z Movie Pack 1 & 2 (1-9) DVD sets at RightSt
Hmmmm they are essentially cropped? I know there is some that say the original films were widescreen or made to look like that , so my singles would just be 4x3 to fit screen? No black bars

Yeah, the singles show more image than the 16x9 framed versions do.Spike_86 wrote:Hmmmm they are essentially cropped? I know there is some that say the original films were widescreen or made to look like that , so my singles would just be 4x3 to fit screen? No black bars
It depends on what you're looking for. The double feature footage is encoded better, but movies 1-3, 5, 6, and movie 8 all have various degrees of color and brightness issues.Spike_86 wrote:Ok so I have all of the original singles and the remastered first 3 movies....... are these worth getting or should my singles stay?
Comparisons are underneath the descriptions for the problems in each film. Single shots are on the left, while the double feature footage is on the right.
Movie 1 is sometimes too bright and entire levels of shading are gone. Overall palette seems a bit closer to the Dragon Box on the double feature here though. The single here has some darkness problems, such as Garlic Jr.'s bulky form having a way too dark shadow.

Movie 2 is too dark and loses many darker details that the single actually had. It has really good colors otherwise though.

Movie 3 has a strong green tint, which makes dirt and the Shinseiju tree look green, and a small blue-push which makes skin have a slight blueish glow to it.

Movie 5 sometimes has a blue-push making skin look slightly lavender, and many shots are simply way too dark, like one example is the scene where Sauza tears Piccolo's shirt, which is so dark that his shirt and shaded areas of his skin look very close to black. Otherwise the rest of the film looks decent.

Movie 6 has the brightness issue, and a strong blue push making the Namekian sky look almost like Earths at times.

Movie 8 has good colors, but it's entirely way too bright, maybe the brightest of the movies, and suffers from movie 1 and 6's problem of having details wiped out from the brightness.

The rest of the films look great from what I've seen though, and seem to undoubtedly be superior to the singles in every way visually except for the missing footage, but they were also made to be viewed in 16x9 so that's more a matter of opinion. Though apparently movie 13 has terrible audio on the double feature, and it's in mono as well, whereas the single has a decent quality stereo track.
Personally, I'm waiting for the Dragon Box versions if they ever get released, and I'm sticking with the singles until then (and getting the few I still don't have). If they don't release a Dragon Box version of the films by next year or so, I'll get the movie packs so that I can have both the 4x3 and 16x9 versions of the films.
If you want a full picture, then the singles are the only release in North America at least that fulfill that, despite somewhat archaic encoding being used. Also, the singles have the original Japanese credits, openings and titles cards, whereas the double feature footage only has the English counterparts. The double feature versions also have the dub with the Japanese music as an audio option, whereas the single DVDs only have the dub music when watching the dub.
If you want 16x9 and better encoding, the dub with the Japanese music, but don't mind color issues for half of the films or English only footage then get the movie packs. If encoding doesn't matter, colors for half of the films, Japanese footage being intact and amount of footage matter more, then stick with the singles. Or you could just do what I'm doing and wait for the Dragon Boxes, or also get the movie packs in addition to your singles.

So...the movie 4-packs are now all out (pretty damn fast lol), Dragon Box Z collection is complete (arguably) and the Z Blu-rays are in limbo.
I'd personally want Dragon Ball Boxes, but do they want to put out Dragon Box Zaaaa Moooooovies and have a release out for both fandoms to grab? I'm aware that, at this point, it's all just premature speculation, but one can hope

I've already said this many times, but let me say again: Those redrawn artworks awfully suck and make my eyes bleed. The artist, who probably belongs to Toei, is nothing but incompetent. Why don't they just use the original ones that are drawn so nicely?

Why do people want the Dragon Boxes so much for the movies? The movies were meant to be in 16:9 not 4:3 as stated by Togei. Togei did it wrong, Funimation did it right.

"Dragon Box: The Movies" are in a cropped 16:9, and have a far more consistent video remastering from legit 35mm film sources, not to mention the proper audio masters.UnbiasedDBZfan wrote:Why do people want the Dragon Boxes so much for the movies? 'Cause the footage is saturated as hell and the sound quality of the original Japanese audio is abysmal. Also they do not have an alternate angle.UnbiasedDBZfan wrote:Why do people want the Dragon Boxes so much for the movies? The movies were meant to be in 16:9 not 4:3 as stated by Togei. Whether they're "legit" or not, FUNi used 35mm film sources, too.Vegetto EX wrote:"Dragon Box: The Movies" are in a cropped 16:9, and have a far more consistent video remastering from legit 35mm film sources, not to mention the proper audio masters.
